Marvin Humes: The Voice needs a star

Marvin Humes wants to find a star on 'The Voice'.
The 29-year-old former JLS singer - who co-hosts the BBC One show with Emma Willis - believes the series needs to produce a winner who goes on to have a smash hit if it is to compete with rival ITV singing competition, 'The X Factor'.
He said: "How can we get 'The Voice' winners to do as well as 'The X Factor' winners? It will happen but 'The Voice' is still finding its feet. It's a very successful TV show but it's the part after.
"People say the winner should release their stuff quicker. But there's no science to it. [Former 'X Factor' contestant] Ella Henderson's took two years to come out, JLS did it in six months. Ultimately the song should be a smash."
Will.i.am - who stars as a judge on the competition alongside Sir Tom Jones, Rita Ora and Ricky Wilson - agrees with Marvin and thinks it's about time the show produced "a star".
He said: "This show is a great format but needs to produce a star. Not for credibility but it would legitimise the whole talent search."
Marvin also credits newcomer Rita Ora, who joined the series to replace exiting judge Kylie Minogue this year, for bringing something new to the show.
He told The Sun newspaper: "The highlight is Rita. She's done so well. You forget she's only 24 and she's sitting there next to Tom Jones, who is 74, and she can hold her own and stand her ground."
Show bosses are also said to be delighted the blonde beauty has joined the team and described her as a "dream" to work with.
Speaking about her simple dressing-room requests of a full English breakfast and Yorkshire Tea, a source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "Rita is down-to-earth and easy to work with. It's been a dream. Add on the fact that she has boosted ratings to more than 8.5 million, and producers couldn't be happier."

Olivia Colman pregnant

Olivia Colman is pregnant.
The 'Broadchurch' actress - who has sons Finn, nine, and Hal, seven, with her husband Ed Sinclair - is expecting her third child and admitted she still has "quite a few months to go" before she gives birth to the little one.
She told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "I'm pregnant with baby number three. We're all very excited."
The 41-year-old actress' house is currently full of Smarties as Olivia admitted she cannot get enough of the sugar-coated chocolate sweets when she is pregnant.
She added: "I'm obsessed with Smarties."
While Olivia and novelist Ed are very happy to be expecting their third child, the actress admitted her pregnancy means she will is unable to appear in a big screen version of short film 'The Karman Line' in the near future, but if director Spike Lee was keen to wait until the end of the year she would be interested.
She said: "I love Spike Lee and would certainly take his call, but he'll have to wait a while before we start anything.
"I've got quite a few months left to go, so - if he's still interested at the end of the year - we can talk. But it's very flattering that he even suggested it.
"Obviously, the baby is my priority and we're all very excited. I'm very fortunate that work and family are thriving at the same time. I feel very, very lucky."

Lauren Goodger ‘lashed out’ at Sam Faiers

Lauren Goodger "lashed out" at Sam Faiers after her former co-star offered to help her get in shape.
The former 'The Only Way is Essex' star has seen her weight balloon in recent weeks but felt her former pal only said she'd help her slim down in a bid to promote her own fitness website.
A source said "After seeing the pictures [of Lauren in a bikini], Sam got in touch and offered to help but Lauren was incredibly offended and lashed out.
"She accused Sam of being patronising and trying to use her to boost her own profile, but Sam insisted she was just trying to help."
And Lauren was particularly unhappy that Sam's offer came shortly after Lucy Mecklenburgh said in an interview that her former co-star should read her new book for health and fitness tips.
The source added to Closer magazine: "Lauren feels she's being attacked by the whole of Essex - she thinks Sam and Lucy, who are both a size 8 and naturally thin, have no idea what she's going through and she doesn't want their help. She finds it very hurtful."

Kym Marsh’s acting hopes

Kym Marsh wants to "play other parts".
The 38-year-old actress has played 'Coronation Street's Michelle Connor for nine years and though she feels very "fortunate" to enjoy her job so much, she admits it is too "intense" for her to be able to try other things too.
She said: "If it suits both 'Coronation Street' and I, we'll stay together.
"I would like to play other parts but when you're in a show like 'Corrie', you have to focus on it because you're so intensely involved.
"I'm very fortunate to be part of such a great team and show. It's amazing and I'm very lucky to be in work."
The 'Corrie' cast were left devastated last month when long-serving star Anne Kirkbride passed away, and though she says they will always miss her, Kym - whose third child, Archie, died shortly after he was born prematurely six years ago - believes they have all accepted life needs to continue without her.
She told OK! magazine: "We will always miss her but everyone is doing their best to carry on.
"It's like when I lost Archie - you have to get to a point where you carry on because the world carries on without you. There's nothing else you can do."

Fire erupts on EastEnders set hours after live episode

A fire erupted on the 'EastEnders' set hours after the first of this week's live episodes.
Firefighters were rushed to BBC's Elstree Studios last night (17.02.15) after one of the buildings on the Albert Square set burst into flames just hours after the cast finished filming the first semi-live episode of their 30th anniversary week.
A spokesman for Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service revealed: "Crews from Borehamwood and Potters Bar were called to the BBC Elstree Studios shortly after 11pm to tackle a fire that had taken hold in the first floor and roof space of a building on Albert Square."
The Walford blaze is believed to have been started by a stray firework, affecting the surgery of Dr. Harold Legg, although it's been revealed the building was just a façade and not the actual set.
The spokesman added to the Daily Mirror newspaper: "It's just a façade for Dr. Legg's surgery.
"The damage was to the inside and roof. It was quite badly damaged, but we put it out before it spread any further."
Meanwhile, area commander Ian Parkhouse claimed the quick response of his firefighters had meant that no serious damage was caused to the set meaning the remaining live shows will not be affected.
He said: "Thanks to the hard work of our firefighters, the fire was contained and extinguished before it could cause any serious damage to the set."
'EastEnders' 30th anniversary celebrations kicked off with a special edition of 'The Graham Norton Show' on Monday (16.02.15) followed by the first semi-live episode yesterday (17.02.15), during which Max Branning (Jake Wood) accused his daughter Abi (Lorna Fitzgerald) of killing Lucy Beale (Hetti Bywater).
The blonde beauty's killer will finally be revealed after almost a year of mystery in Friday's (20.02.15) hour-long live episode.

Rochelle Humes to present Ninja Warrior on ITV

Rochelle Humes will present 'Ninja Warrior' on ITV.
A new UK version of the hit US, Swedish and Japanese endurance competition will hit screens this spring and will be presented by Ben Shephard, The Saturdays singer and sports commentator Chris Kamara.
The trio will host as 250 contestants from all walks of life take on the ultimate test of strength, speed and courage across three punishing and potentially hilarious stages.
Those who prove they have the stamina to complete TV's toughest challenge will then take on the final task and scale an impressive vertical-faced tower named Mount Midoriyama, to be crowned the first 'Ninja Warrior UK'.
The programme has been commissioned by Potato, which is part of ITV Studios in the UK.
ITV's Commissioning Editor of Entertainment Asif Zubairy promises the show will be both "inspirational" and "hilarious". He said: "We are thrilled to be bringing Ninja Warrior to the UK. This exciting new format will showcase some inspirational achievements as well as hilarious mishaps on what promises to be the toughest course on TV."

Phillip Schofield eats dog food

Phillip Schofield ate dog food live on 'This Morning' today (18.02.15).
The presenter and his co-host Christine Bleakley were interviewing a man whose job is to test mutt meals during the 'Guest Who' segment of the daytime TV show.
Explaining what his job entails the guest, also called Philip, explained: "It doesn't do you any harm, the way it's been cooked and processed it's safe to eat - but I'm not saying you should replace your diet with pet food! I purely do it as a quality check to make sure it is as it should be."
Later in the interview, a mixture of dry and wet dog food was brought out for him to demonstrate how he samples the food.
Schofield stepped up to the plate and told his guest he was up for trying both dishes.
After trying some of the wet food, which had just been removed from the tin, he said: "That's not bad."
However, Bleakley wasn't as brave and recoiled in disgust as her co-host chowed down on the doggy dinner, saying: "Phil, there's no need! I won't do it, I don't care what you say."
Schofield then moved on to the dry biscuits - which Bleakley also nibbled on - but his grimacing face revealed he didn't like the crunch of the tough canine cookies.
Speaking afterwards, he admitted: "I don't like those."
After finishing his pooch food, Schofield told viewers: "I might have a drink of something in the break!"

Jennifer Metcalfe returning to Hollyoaks full time

Jennifer Metcalfe will return to 'Hollyoaks' full time next month.
The brunette beauty announced last year she was departing her role as Mercedes McQueen and exited the soap when her character was apparently murdered in November, but a shock twist on last night's (17.02.15) E4 episode saw her alive and well in France.
Jennifer tweeted afterwards: "It's good to be back."
And it has been confirmed they announced her temporary absence from the show as permanent in order to protect a storyline which has seen Grace Black (Tamara Wall) try to frame Freddie Roscoe (Charlie Clapham) for Mercedes' murder in revenge for him killing her father, a crime he has so far gone unpunished for.
The truth was revealed in the first look showing when Grace told Freddie's older brother Joe Roscoe (Ayden Callaghan) what she had been planning and asked him for help.
Stunned Joe went looking for answers and found himself face-to-face with Mercedes at a luxury villa on the French Riviera.
Mercedes will appear in more scenes this week as the real story behind her disappearance unravels, ahead of a permanent return for the character in the weeks to come.

Bear Grylls would eat his own pet

Bear Grylls would eat his own pet.
The 40-year-old adventurer has revealed if there were nothing else left on earth for him to eat he wouldn't think twice about cooking his family pet and consuming it in order to survive.
Asked if he would consider eating his pet if an apocalypse had wiped out all other sources of food, he exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "Yeah I would eat the pet. The thing is it's true. I'll put it like this for you, would I eat the pet? The answer is yes because, ultimately, if my kids were going to starve I would make them eat the pet, of course."
The 'Bear Grylls: Mission Survive' star went on to reveal he'd even tell his children Jesse, Marmaduke and Huckleberry to eat him if he believed there was no other way they could survive.
He continued: "I actually would even make them eat me. If we were all going to die, I'd make them eat me. I would do anything to keep my kids alive."
Meanwhile, Bear confessed he avoids telling his wife Shara about the disgusting things he drinks and eats while teaching people how to survive on his TV programmes - including his own urine, animal faeces and raw goat's testicles - because it stops her from being affectionate with him.
Quizzed on whether she's ever had to leave the room while watching one of his shows, Bear admitted: "Yeah, there have definitely been a few moments where I've gone, 'Oh, let's see what's on the other channel'. I've learnt not to tell her a huge amount of stuff on that side of things. She goes, 'Do you eat anything weird when you're away?' And I go, 'No [shakes head]'. So yeah, I work on minimal information otherwise I'd never get kissed!"
'Bear Grylls: Mission Survive' kicks off on Friday February 20 at 9pm on ITV.
