Princess Diana’s brother on ‘perfect’ baby name

The late Princess Diana's brother thinks the royal baby's name is "perfect".
Charles Spencer has spoken out in favour of the moniker that was chosen by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge for their newborn daughter, Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, and took to his Twitter account to share his delight at the news, adding that his two-year-old daughter, Charlotte Diana, would also be "thrilled".
Charles - who is the ninth Earl Spencer - wrote: "Perfect names. My 2-year old Charlotte Diana will be thrilled at cousinly name-sharing. Is at an age where thinks world revolves around her!"
Charles has Charlotte Diana with his wife Countess Spencer as well as six other children from previous marriages.
Charlotte had been the bookmakers' favourite for the name of the young royal - who is fourth in line for the throne after her grandfather Prince Charles, father Prince William, and older brother, 21-month-old Prince George - while the names Elizabeth and Diana have been passed down from her great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, and her late grandmother, who was killed in a car accident in 1997.
The announcement was made via the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's Twitter account yesterday (04.05.15), two days after the baby girl was born on Saturday (02.05.15) at 8.34am BST.
The statement from Kensington Palace read: "The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted to announce that they have named their daughter Charlotte Elizabeth Diana.
"The baby will be known as Her Royal Highness Princess Charlotte of Cambridge."

Britain’s Prince Harry starts final leg of Australian tour

Britain's Prince Harry has started the final leg of his Australian tour.
The 30-year-old royal - who has been enjoying a month-long army placement down under - headed to Sydney last night (04.05.15) after staying with the Australian Special Air Service at the Campbell Barracks in Perth, where he was seen training with the country's SAS soldiers.
The prince was also spotted enjoying an Australian football league match at Perth's Domain Stadium on Saturday (02.05.15) the same day his brother Prince William and his wife the Duchess of Cambridge welcomed their second child, Princess Charlotte of Cambridge.
According to The ABC, the royal also spent a couple of nights out on the town, visiting The Stables Bar and enjoying a meal at the Flipside restaurant in North Fremantle, where he ordered the Queen Victoria Burger.
While Harry has clearly enjoyed his trip he has also confessed he "can't wait" to get home to the UK and meet his "beautiful" niece.
He said: "She is absolutely beautiful. I can't wait to meet her."

Stamps honouring Princess Charlotte released

New stamps honouring Britain's Princess Charlotte have been released on the Isle of Man.
The collection, in tribute to the new born royal - who was welcomed into the world by her parents the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on Saturday (02.05.15) - also includes envelopes and a special folder in celebration of the tot, who is now fourth-in-line to the throne.
According to BBC News, a spokesperson for the post office said: "[We are] delighted to join in the royal celebrations following the birth".
A similar collection was also issued when Princess Charlotte's older brother Prince George was born in July 2013, as well as to mark the Duke and Duchess' wedding in 2011.
Meanwhile, Duchess Catherine, 33, and Prince William, 32 - who are expected to travel to their residence Amner Hall in Norfolk today (05.05.15) - have already thanked well-wishers for their kind words following the birth.
A statement from the royal family on Twitter read "Their Royal Highnesses would like to thank all staff at the hospital for the care and treatment they have all received.
"They would also like to thank everyone for their warm wishes."

Prince William and Duchess Catherine to take Princess Charlotte to Amner Hall

Britain's Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge will travel to Amner Hall with Princess Charlotte and Prince George today (05.05.15).
The royal couple are reportedly set to head to their country retreat on the Queen's Sandringham Estate where they will spend time together for the first time as a family of four, reports HELLO! magazine.
Duchess Catherine, 33, who gave birth to Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana on Saturday (02.05.15), will be joined by her husband Prince William, 32, who is on paternity leave from his helicopter ambulance training, to travel up to their expansive Norfolk property which recently underwent extensive refurbishments, adding a swimming pool, tennis court and conservatory.
The decision to travel to Amner Hall contrasts the days following the birth of Prince George in 2013, during which the Duchess travelled to her parents' Carole and Michael Middleton's home in Berkshire.
It is thought the couple are preparing to welcome the grandparents and close friends at the residence over the next few weeks.
Meanwhile, the proud parents have expressed their thanks for all the support they have received following the birth of Princess Charlotte.
A statement from the royal family posted on Twitter said: "The Duke and Duchess are hugely grateful for the messages of congratulations they have received from people all over the world.
"It means a great deal to them that so many people have celebrated the arrival of their new daughter."

Royal Mint unveil coin to commemorate royal baby birth

The Royal Mint have unveiled a £5 coin to commemorate the birth of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's baby girl.
9,500 silver coins will be made whilst there will be just 400 gold ones. Both depict Britain's Queen Elizabeth II on one side whilst the other side - designed by John Bergdahl - reads: "To celebrate the birth of the second child of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge".
Shane Bissett, Director of Commemorative Coin at the Royal Mint said: "The birth of a new Royal baby is a joyous occasion, not just for Their Royal Highnesses, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, but for the whole nation.
"It is only fitting that we commemorate this new addition to the Royal Family with the release of a special coin, just as we celebrated the arrival of Prince George."
Duchess Catherine gave birth to the new princess yesterday at 8.34am and Prince William was later seen bringing the couple's 21-month-old son Prince George to visit the little girl.
The exciting news of the birth was confirmed by a statement on Kensington Palace's official Twitter account.
It read: "Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a daughter at 8.34am. The baby weighs 8lbs 3oz. The Duke of Cambridge was present for the birth.
"The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales & The Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry & members of both families have been informed. Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well."
The royal couple have since thanked the public for their well wishes.
The statement read: "The Duke and Duchess are hugely grateful for the messages of congratulations they have received from people all over the world. It means a great deal to them that so many people have celebrated the arrival of their new daughter."

Royal name not Diana

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge won't call their new baby girl Diana, a friend has claimed.
The new princess was born at 8.34am yesterday (02.05.15) morning and a pal of the royal couple has said they are unlikely to use the baby's name to pay tribute to Prince William's late mother.
The insider told PEOPLE magazine: "I think they're more traditional than that. I would think they would go with a more royal name. I love the idea of Alice.
"I wouldn't read anything into [them not using Diana] - just that they'll go for a royal name."
With the bookmakers, Charlotte is currently the favourite name for the royal baby, who is fourth in line to the throne.
British bookmaker Paddy Power slashed the odds last night (02.05.15) to 3/1, whilst Alice is second favourite with odds of 4/1.
Elsewhere in the top 10 favourite names, it includes tributes to the little tot's great grandmother, with Elizabeth (8/1) and Diana, which is at odds of 10/1.
Victoria (5/1), Olivia (5/1), Alexandra (14/1) and Mary (20/1) also made the top ten.
Prince William, Kate Middleton, their 21-month-old son Prince George and the newborn have been at Kensington Palace, London today (03.05.15) where they have received visits from the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall as well as the Middleton family - Kate's parents Michael and Carole and sister Pippa.

Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla visit royal baby

Britain's Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall have visited the one-day-old Princess of Cambridge.
The 66-year-old Prince of Wales arrived at Kensington Palace at lunch time along with his wife Camilla to meet his first granddaughter, who was born at St Mary's Hospital in London on Saturday morning (02.05.15).
The Prince - who said he was "absolutely delighted" about the news of the child's birth - revealed last week he was keen for the royal baby to be a girl, and looked pleased as he entered the palace to see the child, which is the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's second child after 21-month-old Prince George.
The couple arrived less than an hour after the maternal grandparents Michael and Carole Middleton, and aunt Pippa, just a day after the as-yet-unnamed was shown to the world when William and Catherine left the Lindo Wing of the hospital.
Prince William, 32, told the press yesterday he was "very happy" about becoming a father to the baby princess, who is fourth in line to the throne after Princes Charles, William, and elder brother George.
Queen Elizabeth is yet to meet the new arrival due to royal engagements, but heard well wishes this morning as she attended a church service in Norfolk, on the same estate as the family's country retreat, Anmer Hall.
While the name of the child has not yet been announced, bookmakers say Charlotte, Alice and Olivia are the favourites for the princess, who is the first girl to be born into the British monarchy for 25 years.

Duchess Catherine’s parents offer ‘ordinary life’ to newborn princess

Britain's Duchess Catherine's parents "offer the closest to ordinary life" for the newborn princess.
The 33-year-old royal delivered her second child with Prince William yesterday morning (02.05.15), and royal experts believe it is the tot's maternal grandparents Michael and Carole Middleton who will provide a degree of normality to her life away from the spotlight.
Royal writer Robert Lacey explained: "The thing about the Middletons is that they are thoroughly self-assured and self-contained. They have a stable home and family life, and that clearly appeals to William.
"Even when he goes down to stay with his grandparents in the country, Prince George is surrounded by security.
"It's difficult to say it's an ordinary life but perhaps the Middletons offer the closest to ordinary life inside that stockade of security."
The as-yet unnamed Princess of Cambridge was born at 08.34am BST weighing 8lbs 3oz, and despite only being a day old, experts have already predicted she will have a huge impact on the British economy, with the potential to raise £150 million for businesses and designers in the UK every year of her life.
Brand expert Robert Haigh told the Sunday Mirror newspaper: "This baby girl opens up a whole new demographic for the 'Brand Windsor-effect'.
"In the years to come her wardrobe will be carefully scrutinised, with the specific items she wears likely to sell out in days and the labels enjoying long-lasting uplifts in brand strength and sales."

Royal baby ‘highly likely’ to be named today

Britain's Princess of Cambridge is "highly likely" to be named today (03.05.15).
The second child of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, William and Catherine, was born yesterday (02.05.15) at 8.34am BST at St Mary's Hospital in London, and having spent a night at Kensington Palace, experts are expecting the family to reveal the name of the tot later today.
The Daily Mirror newspaper's royal reporter Victoria Murphy said: "Today we're hoping to see visitors to Kensington Palace and also find out the Princess's name.
"The naming is highly likely, but not definite."
Although the parents - who already had 21-month-old Prince George - have not yet hinted at any names, Charlotte and Alice are the favourites according to bookmakers, while there are also high odds on the child being called Elizabeth, Olivia or Victoria.
The couple's daughter - who is the first girl to be born into the British monarchy in 25 years - comes more than a century after the first Princess of Cambridge, Mary, who was born in 1833.
Dubbed the 'People's Princess' as a youngster due to her charity work, the royal - who is the great-great-great-great grandmother of the newborn child - later became known for her lavish parties and decided to exile in 1883 after running up sizeable financial debts.
However, tourism experts believe the latest birth will spark a positive economic situation, with VisitLondon predicting the English capital will see 32 million UK and overseas visitors in 2015, up from the 29.1 million who took the trip in the year her elder brother George was born in 2013.
