Princess Charlotte’s shawl sells out

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have caused a family run scarf manufacturer to sell out of shawls.

GH Hurt & Son Ltd, based in Nottingham, which specialises in luxury knitted items, has been forced to warn customers to pre-order their white woollen shawl after the royal couple debuted their new daughter, Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, wrapped in the blanket on Saturday (02.05.15).

After the new Princess was presented to the world outside the Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, global demand for the shawl, which cost £68, sky-rocketed.

Wrapping newborns in the GH Hurt & Son Ltd shawl is a long-standing tradition of the royal family, with 22-month-old Prince George having been shown off to the world in the same knitted blanket in 2013.

The firm also provided shawls for the birth of Prince William in 1982 and Prince George’s grandfather, Prince Charles, in 1948.

One of the firm’s directors, Gillian Taylor, told the Nottingham Post newspaper: "We have had a lot of interest and web sales have obviously grown over the weekend, as they woke up in the States.

"We were getting orders from America and Australia and all around the world, so it’s lovely.

"I think they have clearly got an interest in the Royal family over there.

"It’s been a delight – we have spoken to some lovely customers."
