Princess Charlotte receives gifts from abroad

Gifts given to Princess Charlotte of Cambridge have included a pink dress and a donation to a possum sanctuary.

Since she was welcomed by her parents, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on Saturday (02.05.15), the newborn royal has received countless luxury presents from across the globe from well-wishers including Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott and Israeli president Reuven Rivlin.

According to BBC News President Rivlin has sent the princess a pretty pink dress embroidered with the words ‘From Israel with love’.

The dress’ designer Sharona Barzilai said: "For me this closes a circle as I learned to be a dressmaker in London, and I am delighted that my design has been sent as a present to the new princess."

According to a statement from the president’s office, they also sent a beaded brooch adorned with a heart-shaped charm and have wished the Duke and Duchess "joy, health and happiness" at the birth.

Australia’s Prime Minister meanwhile, has gifted the newest member of the royal family with Tasmanian merino wool blanket, which was made in Tasmania’s oldest weaving mill.

He also donated £5,200 to the Healesville Sanctuary, in Victoria, which works towards protecting the Mountain Pygmy-possum of which there are only 2,000 left in the wild.

He said: "I hope one day the princess can visit Australia and hold a Mountain Pygmy-possum herself."
