Queen Elizabeth celebrates birth in pink

Britain's Queen Elizabeth II celebrated the birth of her great-granddaughter by wearing pink.
The 89-year-old monarch was spotted in Richmond, North Yorkshire, where she was attending a royal engagement, and sported a feminine rose-coloured soft wool coat and silk-wool Karl Ludwig dress in honour of the newborn baby, who was delivered by Duchess Catherine at 8.34am BST today (02.05.15) at St Mary's Hospital in London.
The Queen - who was attending a military parade to mark the new regiment The Royal Lancers - also wore an Angela Kelly hat and a Queen's Royal Lancers brooch for the occasion, where she looked in good spirits thanks to the news of the family birth.
Announcing the news of the couple's latest addition, Kensington Palace said: "Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a daughter at 8.34am.
"The baby weighs 8lbs 3oz. The Duke of Cambridge was present for the birth.
"The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales & The Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry & members of both families have been informed
"Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well."
Meanwhile, the Duke of Cambridge's father, Prince Charles, and his wife Duchess Camilla, were told of the news while at his Highgrove estate, where they said they were "absolutely delighted" about the news.
The couple have since left the hospital with their newborn daughter after a visit from their 21-month-old son Prince George, and will now spend the night at Kensington Palace.

The royal couple exited the Lindo Wing of St Mary's Hospital in Paddington, London at approximately 6.15pm BST (02.05.15), following the birth of their second child at 8.34am BST.
The 33-year-old royal - dressed in a floral yellow and white Jenny Packham dress - was joined by her husband and their baby as they departed the facility, with Prince William placing their daughter in the back of a black Range Rover before departing without comment.
The couple - who wed in 2011 before giving having their first child, Prince George, in July 2013 - travelled to Kensington Palace after leaving the hospital, where they are expected to spend a few nights before returning to their home on the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk.
Their exit from the hospital follows messages posted to the Kensington Palace Twitter account earlier today, in which they thanked people around the world for their messages of congratulations, as well as staff who helped deliver the princess.
The statement read: "Their Royal Highnesses would like to thank all staff at the hospital for the care and treatment they have all received.
"They would also like to thank everyone for their warm wishes."
The arrival of the as-yet un-named baby - who is fourth in line for the throne - was announced at 11.00am BST.

"Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well."
The first confirmation of the happy news was made via Kensington Palace's official Twitter account.
The announcement read: "Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a daughter at 8.34am. The baby weighs 8lbs 3oz. The Duke of Cambridge was present for the birth.
"The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales & The Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry & members of both families have been informed. Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well."

Britain’s Duchess of Cambridge goes into labour

Britain's Duchess of Cambridge has gone into labour.
The 33-year-old royal was admitted to the Lindo Wing at St Mary's Hospital in West London earlier this morning (02.05.15).
A post on Kensington Palace's official Twitter account confirmed the news. It read: "HRH The Duchess of Cambridge was admitted at 06.00hrs to St Mary's Hospital, Paddington, London and is in the early stages of labour.
"The Duchess travelled by car from Kensington Palace to the Lindo Wing at St. Mary's Hospital with The Duke of Cambridge."
The new baby will be fourth in line to the throne behind grandfather Prince Charles, father Prince William and 21-month-old brother Prince George.
Meanwhile, it has been said that the Duke and Duchess do not know the gender of the baby yet but Prince Charles is keen on having a granddaughter.
He said previously: "I'm happy I'm going to be a grandfather again. I'm looking forward to it - but I hope it will be a girl this time."
Following the birth of the little boy or girl, there is to be an increase in security as per standard procedure.
Ken Wharfe, a former head of security for Kensington Palace, said: "Currently, William and Kate have a protection team, I would imagine, of somewhere in the region of about six and eight between them, with the resources calling upon additional security should they need it.
"In amongst that team, you have an additional two people that will be solely responsible for the protection of George.
"[When the new baby arrives,] that security will be increased again by probably another one.
"Not that George goes out on public duties, but there has to be extra security for obvious reasons. Because they will go out with nannies."

Prince Charles mocks ‘ranga’ Harry

Britain's Prince Charles joked about his "ranga" son Prince Harry yesterday (30.04.15).
The 30-year-old royal is currently on a month-long military secondment in Australia and his father thinks he has settled into the country well and is sure he is "happy" because of the local people's "fondness" for red-heads, for which ranga is a local slang term.
He said: "I suspect my old Harry is pretty well acclimatised by now and will probably be eating lamingtons, Vegemite sandwiches, Iced VoVos and Violet Crumble bars - and may even be threatening to buy a pair of budgie smugglers.
"Whatever the case, I am sure he'll be happy Down Under because of the Aussies' fondness for rangas."
On a more serious note, Charles - who was speaking after touring the Indigenous Australia: Enduring Civilisation exhibition at the British museum - felt his son may, like him, have been captivated by the deep spiritual relationship that indigenous Australians have with the land "which is part of their being in every sense".
The exhibition is the first major UK show to present a history of indigenous Australia through objects and the 66-year-old royal hopes it will inspire people to "regain that sense of reverence for the natural environment".
He said: "My great hope is that exhibitions of this kind can help build a bridge to enable indigenous and non-indigenous people to communicate with, and understand, one another more effectively.
"If it can also inspire us to regain that sense of reverence for the natural environment, which is so much a part of the innate wisdom of all indigenous communities around the world, then perhaps it will have helped us all to learn to be better custodians of the planet."

Queen Elizabeth to change state prayers

Britain's Queen Elizabeth is planning to amend state prayers to include Duchess Camilla.
The 88-year-old monarch - who is Supreme Governor of the Church of England - reportedly considered making the change ahead of her son Prince Charles and the duchess' 10th wedding anniversary last month, but decided not to go ahead at that time.
A source told the Daily Mail newspaper: "The queen is waiting for the right moment."
At present, the state prayers mention only Charles and the queen's husband, Prince Philip, by name.
The prayer reads: "Almighty God, the fountain of all goodness, we humbly beseech thee to bless, Philip Duke of Edinburgh, Charles Prince of Wales, and all the Royal Family.
"Endue them with thy Holy Spirit; enrich them with thy heavenly grace; prosper them with all happiness; and bring them to thine everlasting kingdom; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen."
The state prayer for the royal family was last amended in 2002 following the death of Elizabeth, the Queen mother.
Charles - who was previously married to the late Princess Diana - will inherit the title of Supreme Governor of the Church of England when he ascends to the throne.
