Jason Orange quit Take That to escape fame.
The 44-year-old singer left the band because he no longer wanted to feel "violated" by the industry and even grew his beard and hair in the hope of going unrecognised in public after the group reformed in 2006.
A fan, who once asked him for a picture when they spotted him in Manchester, told The Sun newspaper: "He was the grumpiest person in there. We asked him for a quick picture and he said, 'No, this industry makes me feel violated.'
"He had a small entourage of young ladies with him. We were extremely polite in asking but he point blank said 'No'. My friend said she had spent money seeing him in concert but he just walked off."
Jason, who was the only member of the group not to embark on a solo career when they broke up in 1996, is now keen to travel the world and appears to be in a better mental place after he decided to quit his career.
A source explained: "Jason hated being in it first time around. He genuinely likes going off travelling the world with a backpack, being anonymous and fancies himself as a thinker. He feels he's got his life back. He can now kick on and do what he wants to do."
Jason announced on Wednesday (24.09.14) that he'd informed his bandmates - Gary Barlow, Howard Donald and Mark Owen - of his decision to quit last week.
The group will now continue as a trio.

Jason Derulo believes "everything is cool" between him and Jordin Sparks following their recent split.
The couple, who confirmed their relationship in 2012 but have been dating since 2011, called time on their relationship when their busy careers put pressure on their romance, but the 'Talk Dirty' hitmaker, 25, insists he'll always remain friends with his ex-lover.
Speaking on radio station KDWB-FM yesterday (25.09.14), Jason confirmed he'd split from Jordin, adding: "Everything is cool, man. It's not a bad situation. You know, it's not one of those kinda things."
However, the break-up came as a complete shock to fans as Jason gushed just over a month ago that the 'No Air' singer, 24, was 'The One' and he's known it ever since he broke one of his vertebrae in 2012.
Asked when he realised she was his match, he said in August: "I knew that pretty early on. I felt that when I was in the hospital with my neck injury. I felt different ... I felt like I needed her in my world."
The hunk also went on to say that they had a stable relationship and they were glad they were strong enough to deal with the pressures of the industry.
He said previously: "You know, of course we have our problems just like anybody else. But our relationship is a positive one and that's good for people to see in today's entertainment industry."

'Star Wars: Episode VII' star Oscar Isaac has revealed things are being kept loose and "messy" on the set of the new film.
The 37-year-old actor, who has been cast in the much-hyped movie, revealed the atmosphere surrounding the film is being driven by director JJ Abrams.
He told Entertainment Weekly: "What they're trying to do and what's really great is J.J.'s been loosening it up a little bit and trying to make it alive and energised. It's not formal.
"They're messy, energised people. We've all intentionally tried to do that. Just make it a little more fiery and messy."
Isaac - who is best known for his lead role in 'Inside Llewyn Davis' in 2013 - explained there's a feel-good factor on set about the film.
He added: "Carrie [Fisher] is hilarious and doing such cool work. Harrison [Ford] is back. He went on hiatus for a little while, but he's 150 per cent back. It's pretty amazing to see him bounce back. He looks incredible.
"Everyone's having a really good time. J.J. sets that tone. There's a lot of enthusiasm and it's being done with a lot of heart. There's nothing cynical about the way we're doing this."
'Star Wars: Episode VII' will open in cinemas in December 2015.

The Madden Brothers have described Pharrell Williams as a "visionary".
The twins, Benji and Joey - best known as members of rock band Good Charlotte - have been working with the 'Happy' hitmaker on their debut album as a duo, and have praised him for being so understanding of the musical direction in which they wanted to go.
Benji told issue 19 of FAULT Magazine: "We worked a lot with Pharrell on the record - we wrote two songs on the record with him - he really gets the vision and supports it.
"Three years ago, when we decided to do this Madden Brothers thing, we told him how we wanted it to be and he was like, 'Yeah The Eagles, I can see that s**t.' He's a visionary and then we started writing songs [together]."
The brothers - who were photographed by Miles Holder for the magazine (www.fault-magazine.com/issues) - revisited many bands who they listened to in their youth such as The Eagles and The Beach Boys for inspiration when recording their album 'Greetings From California'.
Joel explained: "We listened to The Beach Boys, The Eagles and then, as teenagers, Sublime and then Dr. Dre's Chronic and all these hip hop records. We've been in California for 10 years and while we are from the East Coast, it was [always] our dream to get to California."
The Madden Brothers' debut single 'We Are Done' and album 'Greetings From California' are both out now on Capitol Records.

Kristen Bell felt "pressured" to find the perfect name for her unborn child.
The 'Frozen' star - who already has a 17-month-old daughter Lincoln with her husband Dax Shepherd - is expecting her second child with the 39-year-old actor and confessed the pair struggled to come up with another moniker.
She told People magazine: "It's a lot of pressure, especially because we felt 'Lincoln' was so perfect."
Fortunately, the pair have managed to settle on an idea just in time as the latest addition to their family is due "sometime soon" - although Kristen was keen to keep the name under wraps.
She said: "We had a little bit of a breakthrough. We've settled on one, thankfully."
Meanwhile, the 34-year-old actress recently confessed her daughter is "the smartest baby ever" because she is already talking and learning sign language.
She said: "She signs a lot, which is nice. There's a lot of research to suggest that they will be happier if they can communicate before their verbal scores are developed.
"There's a time when they can understand everything you're saying but their verbal scores don't exist."
She added: "I can talk to her and she'll sign in three, four word sentences which is really amazing. She'll come in the kitchen and be like [signing] 'More crackers please!' And I'm like, 'Yes, okay!' "
She added: "She's MENSA, without a question!? She's the smartest baby ever!"

Bruce Jenner is helping Lamar Odom win back Khloe Kardashian.
The former Olympian has reportedly offered words of advice to the basketball player while he tries to make amends with his estranged wife - Bruce's daughter - Khloe Kardashian.
Khloe, 30, was married to the 34-year-old NBA star for four years but split from him following months of revelations the was taking cocaine and cheating on her.
Lamar is now said to be desperately trying to win back Khloe and has turned to Bruce, 64 - who separated from his wife Kris Jenner last year - for help.
A source told Hollywood Life: "(Bruce) only tells Lamar to follow his heart.
"Bruce is old school, and tells Lamar that if he follows his heart and if his heart only beats for Khloe, go after her and don't stop!"
Bruce's words of wisdom come just days after the brunette beauty was reportedly back in contact with Lamar.
The 'Keeping Up with the Kardashians' star reportedly reached out to her spouse - whom she filed for divorce from in December - following her split from rapper French Montana.
A source said: "After months of not talking, she's been calling Lamar. Ever since the split, Khloé's been super sad and really missing Lamar, so she decided to reach out. Lamar was so happy to hear from her."

Kristen Stewart is dating Nicholas Hoult.
The pair are reported to be inseparable after spending time together on and off the set of their new movie 'Equals'.
Kristen, 24 and Nicholas, 24, are said to have "bonded" during filming and are "constantly hanging out" in between takes playing pranks on the film crew.
A source told HollywoodLife: "Kristen and Nick are inseparable. They are constantly hanging out together when they aren't on set. They've really bonded with each other and are like best friends now. It wouldn't surprise any if us if it turns into something more serious, something romantic.
"When Kristen is on location for long periods of time, she usually has a good friend come stay with her but not this time cause she has Nick.
"They love playing practical jokes on the cast and crew, playing pool, just exploring and hanging out."

Sam Worthington and Lara Bingle are expecting a baby.
After months of speculation, the 'Avatar' star and his model girlfriend are set to welcome their first child, US Weekly can confirm.
Rumours that the pair were expecting first surfaced when Lara, 27, appeared to cover her baby bump with a jacket when she stepped out in New York last week and was later pictured visiting a medical office while holding her tummy.
The famously private pair are yet to officially confirm the news which comes just months after Sam, 38, was cleared of assault following a scuffle with a photographer in Greenwich Village, New York City.
The actor reportedly punched the photographer multiple times in the face after Lara claimed he kicked her shin.
Sam was charged with third-degree assault, third-degree attempted assault and second-degree harassment but avoided being thrown behind bars after he quietly entered into a conditional dismissal deal on April 8 at Manhattan Criminal Court in New York.
