Wendi Peters ‘never considered’ Coronation Street return

Wendi Peters "never considered" returning to 'Coronation Street'.
The 46-year-old actress is to reprise her role as Cilla Battersby-Brown in the ITV soap later this month and although she's looking forward to her return, she admits she hasn't really missed it.
She explained: "It was a shock when the phone went and it was my agent telling me she'd had Granada on.
"I had put Cilla to bed completely and I had moved on. Returning was something I had never really considered and there wasn't a point where I though I would quite like to be back."
Wendi is to return as her on-screen daughter Jennie McAlpine (Fiz Brown) prepares for maternity leave and her character Cilla's shocking secret is to form part of her exit-story.
She continued to the Daily Mirror newspaper: "I have been lucky as I have been busy with theatre roles since leaving Corrie. But this opportunity seemed ideal as it is for a short period and it's lovely to come back to help get Jennie out for maternity leave.
"The fact my on-screen daughter is having a baby in real life makes me feel like I am going to be a real granny."
Meanwhile, the soap star is nervous about her own daughter Gracie, 14, and her friends seeing her horrible on-screen persona.
She added: "When she was seven, her friends didn't watch Corrie, they had no idea what it was all about and so nobody knew who I was.
"I was just Gracie's mum. Now they are going to watch it and see that Cilla's not a very nice person."

Dave Grohl explores musical history

Dave Grohl explored the "regional relevance of music" while recording Foo Fighters' new album.
The 'Monkey Wrench' rockers have travelled to various cities in the US to record tracks for their new album 'Sonic Highways' - with the process captured in an accompanying TV series with the same name - and the 45-year-old singer tried to explore the musical history of each area in the process.
He said: "Basically, the process is we come to a city and we spend a week and we start recording an instrumental, because I interview all of these different musicians from that city.
"I talk about the regional relevance of the music from that city, the cultural influence, that 'made-for-the-sound' of the music.
"There's no way that you can tell the history of a city's music in one hour, so we have to do it in a way that relates to the band and goes from point A to point B and becomes a song."
Dave thought travelling to record the album would make things more interesting than just being based in one recording studio.
In an extended trailer for the 'Sonic Highways' TV series, he said: "I thought rather than just go into a studio and make another record, we could go all over the country and make a record where each song was recorded in a different studio."
A number of guests appear on the show to talk about their hometowns and occasionally jam with the rockers, and the trailer showed these include Willie Nelson, Public Enemy's Chuck D, Dolly Parton, Queens of the Stone Age rocker Josh Homme - who Dave plays with in supergroup Them Crooked Vultures - Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, Kiss' Paul Stanley, the Black Keys star Dan Auerbach, Pharrell Williams and Mike D of the Beastie Boys.
Each episode of the eight-part series features a new city and song, and ends with a performance of the track.
Dave's bandmate Pat Smear says they chose to visit Seattle, Los Angeles, Chicago, Washington, D.C., New York, Nashville, Austin and New Orleans because they all had significance to the band.
He said: "Mostly we wanted to pick cities that meant something to us."

Gene Simmons will be a tough judge

Gene Simmons has promised not to "sugarcoat s**t" with his new talent-search show.
The KISS rocker insists he will be getting "tough" on contestants taking part in 'Coliseum' and is ready to "shatter dreams" of budding rock stars.
He told The Hollywood Reporter: "You can't sugarcoat s**t, pardon me. You can mentor anyone you like, but it's a waste of time if they don't have the goods intrinsically.
"We want to open the trap doors of life and get tough. There will be heartbreak, and people are going to cry and their dreams will be shattered, just like in real life.
"Your qualification for being on this show is you can sing in the shower? Is that it, without paying any dues or writing songs or any stagecraft?"
The 'Crazy, Crazy Nights' hitmaker believes shows such as 'American Idol' and 'The Voice' are "fantasy" because judges won't get too tough on hopefuls because honest evaluations would be a turn-off for their family audiences.
He said: "TV shows are fantasy because they're selling soap suds. It's family entertainment, it's primetime, the kids are there, and they [broadcasters] don't want to get too realistic."
And the rocker admitted 'Coliseum' - which will mix and match artists competing to find the perfect act - will value image over vocal talent.
He added: "We want to create superstars, not just singers that get record deals."

Ugly Betty could become Hollywood film

'Ugly Betty' could soon be turned into a Hollywood movie.
The comedy-drama show, which ran from 2006 to 2010, has developed a cult following and the cast of the show are apparently badgering its writer, Silvio Horta, to pen a film script.
Ana Ortiz, who played Betty's sister Hilda Suarez, told The Sun newspaper: "I would love to say that there is a movie in the works.
"I just saw Vanessa (who played Wilhelmina) and we were determined, fingers crossed.
"I think Hilda would be still married and maybe they own their own salon, maybe Betty is running her own magazine."
The 43-year-old also said she would love to see award-winning singer-songwriter Bette Midler, 68, make a cameo appearance in the film.
She explained: "It is a New York show so there would have to be New York celebrities. We always wanted to get Bette Midler."
Ortiz said the cast would also enjoy the opportunity to be able to sing.
She added: "What about an Ugly Betty musical on Broadway? We all like to sing. Some sing better than others.
"Obviously Vanessa Williams is an amazing singer. But we all fancy ourselves as singing nerds."
And despite the show ending four years ago, Ortiz says fans from all over the world still remember her for her part in the programme.
She explained: "Going abroad is when I get the most Ugly Betty love, they are so crazy. They shout 'Hilda!'"

Emma Thompson to write third Bridget Jones

Emma Thompson is writing 'Bridget Jones' Baby'.
The 'Saving Mr Banks' star has been called in to re-write the screenplay following complaints from the movies' stars, who revealed they were unhappy with the planned script for the movie adaptation of Helen Fielding's latest novel, 'Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy'.
Emma, 55, is thought to have begun improving Helen's script - who had penned the first draft with 'One Day' author David Nicholls.
A source told The Sun newspaper: "Trying to get a third film into production has been a nightmare.
"The cast didn't like the script and they've now got Emma involved in the hope she can add her British charm."
The star-studded cast - which is thought to include Renee Zellweger and Colin Firth - have faith in the Brit-born actress after she wrote and starred in the children's film 'Nanny McPhee' alongside Colin Firth in 2005 and won an Oscar for her adaptation of Jane Austen's novel 'Sense and Sensibility' in 1995.
She is also close friends with Richard Curtis - who penned the first two well-loved instalments, which followed the life of the struggling singleton.

Queen Elizabeth allows Sarah Ferguson to have party at Windsor Castle

Britain's Queen Elizabeth has given Sarah Ferguson permission to host her 50th birthday party at Windsor Castle.
The 88-year-old monarch is allowing her son Prince Andrew's former wife - with whom he still lives at Royal Lodge - to hold the £50,000 shindig in Windsor's State Apartments in Berkshire on Wednesday night, with approximately 300 guests expected to attend.
A source from the castle told the Daily Express newspaper: "It's going to be a hell of a night.
"The Duchess of York is over the moon that the Queen allowed her to hold the party at the castle, and she hopes many of her friends can make it.
"We are expecting lots of big names. Everyone wants to see if Prince Harry and Cressida [Bonas] turn up as a couple. The Duchess' charities also want to pay tribute to her many years of work and lots of them will be here as well."
As well as Prince Andrew and their daughters Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, Duchess Catherine's sister Pippa Middleton is expected to attend along with Princess Anne's children Peter and Zara Phillips and their spouses.
In addition to Royal guests, celebrities including Sir Elton John and his partner David Furnish, Robbie Williams and wife Ayda Field, supermodels Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss, 'Downton Abbey' creator Julian Fellowes and comedian Stephen Fry have been sent invites.

Zach Galifianakis hates fame

Zach Galifianakis thinks being a celebrity is "s**t".
The 45-year-old star insists the notion of fame is "dumb" and he hates the attention that comes with being an actor as he would rather finish work and go home to watch TV.
Speaking at a press conference to promote his new movie 'Birdman', a Hollywood satire, he said: "Being a celebrity is s**t. It's dumb. I'm not interested in it. I like to be an actor and that's it.
"I'm just being honest. I would rather do my work and go home and watch Lifetime or something."
The 'Hangover' actor went on to insist the concept of "celebrity" is "man-made" and fans have only developed such huge interest in the personal lives of their favourite stars because they have been conditioned to believe it is something they ought to care about.
He added: "I think celebrity is a man-made thing. It's not innate in us. We have people telling us we should pay attention to these people for the wrong reasons - their personal lives and that stuff."
Meanwhile, Zach's co-star in the movie, Michael Keaton, believes anyone can now think of themselves as a celebrity and they would be right.
He said: "I think everybody is kind of a celebrity now. Anybody can be anything.
"While [the public is] enamoured by it, I guess, and buy magazines, I don't think [celebrity] is a big deal anymore.
"I think everybody is kind of their own celebrity in their own head, and they kind of are. We're living in this really weird world where people are everywhere. They're omnipresent."

Una Foden expecting a boy

Una Foden is expecting a baby boy.
The Saturdays singer admits she was "taken aback" to learn she and spouse Ben Foden are going to have a brother for their two year old daughter Aoife Belle but the rugby player had been convinced from the beginning they would have a son.
She said: "Ben was adamant from the moment we knew we'd conceived again that we were having a boy.
"I was convinced I was carrying a girl, mainly because this pregnancy is so similar to last time.
"I was actually a little bit taken aback when we found out we were going to have a son. But now I'm over the moon and can't wait to meet our little boy."
The 'All Fired Up' singer also laughed off speculation she and bandmates Rochelle Humes, Frankie Bridge, Vanessa White, and Mollie King are planing to go their separate ways because some of the group have been working on other projects.
The 33-year-old beauty insisted to Britain's HELLO! magazine: "If that was what we wanted, we would be honest about it and say so.
"We're always going to be The Saturdays. None of us wants the group to end. So while we'll go off and do our own things, it will always be in conjunction with what The Saturdays have going on. We're definitely not splitting up."
Ben, 29, recently revealed his daughter is excited about being a big sister.
He said: "Aoife knows something's going on.
"Una shows her her tummy and tells her there's a baby in there and she kisses it.
"She sort of understands. She's really good with other kids. I think she's desperate to have a brother or sister to play with."

Zayn Malik set for bumper Bollywood deal

Zayn Malik is set to be offered a bumper Bollywood deal which could land him £500,000 for a song.
The One Direction singer - who was born in Bradford - is said to be in demand by bosses of Indian film production centre who are preparing to offer him the chance to sing and act in a movie.
A film insider told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "One very big production company is putting together an offer for him to act as well as sing.
"He has turned down one song so far but if the right one comes along it could be great for him."
Bollywood favourite Gulshan Grover, 59, believes the 21-year-old hunk would be a huge success were he to star in a Bollywood production and is keen to help him out if he does land a role.
He said: "There is definite interest in getting Zayn to star in a Bollywood film or deliver a song.
"He has a huge fan base in India and would do really well.
"I would be happy to guide him. I'm sure he doesn't need help with the dance moves but I would be happy to teach him how to fight on-screen."
Zayn wouldn't be the first huge pop star to appear in a Bollywood film after Kylie Minogue was paid £800,000 for her role in 2009 underwater action thriller 'Blue'.
What's more, Snoop Dogg acted and sang a song which cost $475,000 to record and film in 2008 romantic comedy 'Singh is Kinng', in which he wore a traditional Indian turban and a tunic.

Cheryl Fernandez-Versini defends Chloe Jasmine

Cheryl Fernandez-Versini has spoken out to defend the "vulnerable" and "misunderstood" Chloe Jasmine.
The 'X Factor' judge has blasted Twitter trolls for the hurtful comments they've made about one of the contestants from her girls category on the ITV talent show.
Chloe has been unpopular with some viewers after a video of her auditioning for the show in 2006 without her posh accent emerged, followed by a number of saucy pictures of her modelling risqué underwear.
But, according to the Daily Star newspaper, Cheryl has defended her saying: "Chloe is actually very misunderstood.
"She's actually very, very vulnerable and soft on the inside. It's a bit of a front you see sometimes. I worked with her a lot this week on getting up there [on stage] and enjoying herself.
"She's won her place here and she should stand up there like she deserves it."
Meanwhile, the 'Only Human' singer has confessed she suffered a "wake-up call" when another of her acts, Stephanie Nala, was in the bottom two on the show last night (12.10.14) after failing to impress with her rendition of Bread's 'Everything I Own' during Saturday's (11.10.14) live show.
Cheryl told 'The Xtra Factor': "We need to do a lot of her work on her, definitely on her self-belief, but also choosing.
"She's got a very delicate voice so you have to choose the correct song for Steph.
"She's one of those artists that's so distinctive [that] if you get it wrong, you really get it wrong.
"It's a good wake-up call for me and her."

The Edge had ‘doubts’ over U2’s album download

U2 guitarist The Edge had "doubts" before they agreed for their album, 'Songs of Innocence' to be an automatic download.
The rock band caused a stir when they released their latest album, 'Songs of Innocence' as an automatic download for Apple users.
Now The Edge - real name David Howell Evans - had admitted that he was worried before they agreed to the deal with the technology firm.
Talking to The Observer's The New Review, he explained: "I absolutely had my doubts about it before we did it, and after, but it was the right thing to do. It was an opportunity that will only ever come around once for anybody. I don't think anybody would want to do it again."
U2 bass player Adam Clayton then added: "The plan wasn't to be controversial. In today's world there is so much chatter, so in order to get through the chatter I'm afraid we are destined to make a very loud noise ourselves."
When asked if the stunt had backfired on the band, U2's frontman Bono said: "No, no, no, that's the duality! Intimacies through large public address systems is what we do. That's what rock'n'roll is."
The 54-year-old musician then noted that he was used to being hated after enduring derogatory comments from the public for over 30 years. He shared: "We were already annoying people, it was already divisive, it was already, 'I can't stand them, I want to kill them'. It's the job of art to be divisive."

Ed Sheeran wants some time off

Ed Sheeran wants some time off.
The 'Don't' hitmaker has revealed that rather than begin work on a new album he intends to take some time off from work once he's finished his world tour next year.
He explained: "I haven't had any time off since before I signed my record deal and I want some! I'll do what I enjoy and it won't feel like work."
The 23-year-old star - who has enjoyed huge success with his debut album 'Plus' and its 2014 follow-up 'X' - has teased fans that he's been working on a Christmas song, but admitted it won't be released in time for this years' festive season.
He told The Sun newspaper: "[The Christmas song] won't be out this Christmas.
"I have 'Thinking Out Loud' as a single going into Christmas.
"If I saw an artist have a string of hits, an album that did well, a hit going into Christmas and then they did a Christmas single I'd think, 'Ooh, that's overkill'.
"If my song came out next year or the year after, when I haven't released anything for a while, it will be bigger."
Meanwhile, Ed has also confessed 'Thinking Out Loud' could be the last single he releases from 'X', as he hopes to mirror the success of other popular artists.
He added: "Three is a good number. I did six on the last album and it felt too much.
"You never go away and people get p**sed off. Bruno Mars did three. Taylor Swift did three. Adele did three.
"I'll probably end up with four singles so I have a song to go into the Brit Awards with next year."
