Zach Galifianakis hates fame

Zach Galifianakis thinks being a celebrity is "s**t".

The 45-year-old star insists the notion of fame is "dumb" and he hates the attention that comes with being an actor as he would rather finish work and go home to watch TV.

Speaking at a press conference to promote his new movie ‘Birdman’, a Hollywood satire, he said: "Being a celebrity is s**t. It’s dumb. I’m not interested in it. I like to be an actor and that’s it.

"I’m just being honest. I would rather do my work and go home and watch Lifetime or something."

The ‘Hangover’ actor went on to insist the concept of "celebrity" is "man-made" and fans have only developed such huge interest in the personal lives of their favourite stars because they have been conditioned to believe it is something they ought to care about.

He added: "I think celebrity is a man-made thing. It’s not innate in us. We have people telling us we should pay attention to these people for the wrong reasons – their personal lives and that stuff."

Meanwhile, Zach’s co-star in the movie, Michael Keaton, believes anyone can now think of themselves as a celebrity and they would be right.

He said: "I think everybody is kind of a celebrity now. Anybody can be anything.

"While [the public is] enamoured by it, I guess, and buy magazines, I don’t think [celebrity] is a big deal anymore.

"I think everybody is kind of their own celebrity in their own head, and they kind of are. We’re living in this really weird world where people are everywhere. They’re omnipresent."
