Neill Blomkamp reveals plan to make new Alien movie

Neill Blomkamp thinks Hollywood will give the go-ahead to his take on 'Alien'.
In January, the South African film-maker released 'Alien'-themed concept art work of Sigourney Weaver - who starred in the original films, as well as Blomkamp's new movie 'Chappie' - and has now revealed that the only obstacle remaining is whether or not he wants to proceed with the plan.
He explained: "Basically, what happened was, when Chappie got heavily into post-production, I could take my foot off the gas a bit.
"I was thinking about what I wanted to do next and I've been wanting to make an Alien film for like years and years."
Blomkamp said his conversations with Weaver, 65, increased his appetite for a new 'Alien' movie.
He told Uproxx: "Speaking to Sigourney Weaver, when we were doing Chappie, she set off a bunch of thoughts in my head - I had come up with an idea that didn't have Sigourney, it was a different idea. But I spent all of the shooting time with her, it was like, holy s***, that could actually be really interesting.
"When I came back to Vancouver, I had an entire year to work on Chappie. And when I wasn't needed in the edit, I could think about Alien. So, I basically developed an entire movie and I did all of this artwork as well."
However, he added: "I'm the problem. [The film studio] Fox, they would make it. Like, tomorrow. They would make it."

Will Smith remains tight-lipped on Suicide Squad

Will Smith insists details of 'Suicide Squad' will remain a closely-guarded secret.
The 46-year-old star is set to appear in the much-anticipated movie based on DC comicbooks alongside the likes of Jared Leto and his 'Focus' co-star Margot Robbie, but says he's not able to reveal any information about the film before its release.
Asked whether he could speak about the 'Suicide Squad' movie, Will told BANG Showbiz: "No sir, I'd have to kill you. It's top secret but it's really good, though. It's great stuff, fantastic. I'm already in shape for it, I'm already training."
However, Will was more forthcoming about the plot of 'Focus', in which he plays a veteran con artist called Nicky, who takes a novice named Jess - who is played by Margot Robbie - under his wing and falls in love with her.
Speaking at the UK premiere of the film in London's Leicester Square, he explained: "The [question of whether the character is good or evil] is one of the things that was interesting. I think he's injured a little bit. He's had a couple of really bad experiences and a rough upbringing.
"At his heart, he's a good guy. I think that's part of what's fun about the whole con aspect of the film.
"Even until the end of the film, the audience is not sure, and it's only in the final moments of the film that you get to make a decision about whether he's a good guy or not."

First SPECTRE clip released online

The first footage has emerged of the new James Bond film 'SPECTRE'.
The behind-the-scenes clip, which lasts for just under two minutes, shows Daniel Craig dressed in black firing a shot and running towards a burning vehicle on a snowy mountaintop in Solden, Austria.
Gregg Wilson, the film's associate producer, teased: "This is going to be one of the major action sequences of the movie, a jewel in the crown so to speak. It's going to be spectacular and Austria seemed to offer everything that we needed to pull it off."
What's more, production designer Dennis Gassner has revealed filming has gotten off to a good start and he and director Sam Mendes are confident 'SPECTRE' will be an even bigger success than the 2012 film 'Skyfall'.
He shared: "The thing that Sam and I talked about was how we are going to top Skyfall. It's going to be SPECTRE and so far it's a great start."
The footage comes shortly after it was reported that Daniel Craig was injured on the set of the film, which prompted former Bond star Sir Roger Moore to offer to replace him.
Writing on his Twitter account, the 87-year-old star joked: "Sorry to hear Daniel Craig has sprained his knee on set #Spectre. Being 007 is not without its hazards. I'm available to step in if needed. (sic)"
Shortly after, however, it was revealed that Craig had recovered from his knee injury and returned to shooting the film, which is set for release on November 6, 2015.

Eric Bana joins King Arthur

Eric Bana has joined the cast of 'Knights Of The Round Table: King Arthur'.
The 'Deliver Us From Evil' actor will play Uther, the father of Charlie Hunnam's Arthur, in Guy Ritchie's forthcoming movie, Variety reports.
According to the industry publication, the role "isn't the biggest" but the director and studio Warner Bros. were keen to get a big name for the part and initially considered 'Taken' star Liam Neeson for the role.
As well as Eric and Charlie, Astrid Berges-Frisbey is on board to play Guinevere, while the filmmaker's 'Sherlock Holmes' actor Jude Law - who played Watson opposite Robert Downey Jr. in the title role - is in talks to play the villain.
Plot details from Joby Harold's script are being kept under wraps, but the movie is due for release on July 22, 2016.
It is hoped the film will be successful enough to kick-start a franchise, with the story of King Arthur and his legendary knights of the kingdom of Camelot to be told over six installments.
Bana recently wrapped production on 'The Finest Hours' for Disney, and is also attached to star in 'Special Correspondents', a spy action comedy written and directed by Ricky Gervais, and 'The Secret Scripture'.

Ava DuVernay ‘hurt’ by David Oyelowo’s Oscar snub

Ava DuVernay is "hurt" David Oyelowo has not been nominated for an Oscar.
The 38-year-old Brit stars as civil rights leader Martin Luther King in the DuVernay-directed hit 'Selma', but his performance - which has been widely praised - has not been rewarded with a nomination for the Academy Awards.
She said: "I was hurt by the fact that David wasn't nominated because I know what it took to get that performance.
"I don't need anyone to tell me that it's one of the best performances of 2014; no one needs to even say that to me because I already know."
What's more, DuVernay revealed she did not expect to receive a Best Director nomination, despite the movie being a critical success.
She asked: "There has been no precedent for a black woman to be nominated for best director, so why was it going to change with me?"
However, DuVernay admits to being honoured that 'Selma' has been nominated for one of the top awards.
She remarked: "We were nominated as best picture, which is nothing to sneeze at. People act like we dragged out of there with nothing. I mean, best picture."

Will Smith isn’t upset about lack of diversity at the Oscars

Will Smith says the lack of diversity among the 2015 Oscar nominees "was to be expected."
The 'Focus' star admits he wasn't surprised or upset by the fact that all 20 of this year's acting contenders are white and no women were nominated in the directing or writing categories.
Speaking exclusively to BANG Showbiz at a special screening of his new film, 'Focus,' at the Vue Leicester Square in London tonight (11.02.15), the 46-year-old star said: "I can't say I felt negatively about it. I can't say it was obvious to me... you know that as 90-plus percent of the Academy is not diverse, so I think it was to be expected."
But Will believes people ultimately have the right to vote for whichever movies they enjoyed.
Asked whether he thought 'Selma' - the acclaimed film about civil rights campaigner Dr. Martin Luther King - was snubbed by the prestigious awards ceremony because it only received two nominations ahead of the event in Los Angeles on February 22, he said: "You know, my brain doesn't even work like that. I don't think of it in terms of snubbed and things like that. People vote for the movies that they want to vote for and they have that right."
Will's co-star Margot Robbie was among the other guests at tonight's red carpet event.

Steve Buscemi features in Fifty Shades of Grey parody

Steve Buscemi has appeared as Christian Grey in a 'Fifty Shades of Grey' parody.
The 57-year-old star - who's previously appeared in 'Boardwalk Empire' and 'Reservoir Dogs' - replaces Northern Irish star Jamie Dornan with a host of characters from his past, including Carl Showalter from 'Fargo', Nucky Thompson from 'Boardwalk Empire', and even Crazy Eyes from 'Mr Deeds'.
In the clip by Boo Ya Pictures, it's not initially apparent that it's Buscemi in the role, as he talks with Anastasia Steele, played by Dakota Johnson, while Beyonce's 'Crazy In Love' can be heard in the background.
Buscemi's face is unseen for the first phase of the scene, and Johnson asks: "Do you have any interests outside of work?"
Buscemi replies by referencing a scene from 'Reservoir Dogs': "When I order coffee I want it filled six times. And you?"
She then says: "There's really not much to know about me. Look at me."
Buscemi - who appears in the role of Nucky Thompson - responds: "You can bet your keyster I'm gonna get a piece of that pie."
The real 'Fifty Shades of Grey', based on the 2011 erotic romance novel by British author E. L. James, is set to open in cinemas on Valentine's Day (14.02.15).

David Oyelowo frustrated by British cinema

David Oyelowo doesn't think British cinema tells stories "with black protagonists in a heroic context".
The 38-year-old actor - who recently starred as civil rights leader Martin Luther King in the Ava DuVernay-directed movie 'Selma' - claims he's been forced to head to Hollywood in order to further his career.
He shared: "I'd never get to play a character akin to Dr King living and working here. If I looked like Benedict [Cumberbatch] or Eddie Redmayne, I could do the films they have done that are being celebrated now.
"But myself, Idris Elba and Chiwetel Ejiofor had to gain our success elsewhere because there is not a desire to tell stories with black protagonists in a heroic context within British film."
Oyelowo said he aspires to appear in British movies that tell similarly inspiring stories, but admits it's like banging his "head against a brick wall".
He told the Big Issue: "That is a huge ambition of mine. But I am not going to continue to bash my head against a brick wall. I tried very hard while I was here. And we have a system in place that makes it very difficult.
"The class system in the UK is very real. The old boys' club is very real. America has its own challenges but the system is tied to money."

Bradley Cooper in talks to produce and star in Orphan X

Bradley Cooper is in talks to produce and star in 'Orphan X'.
The 40-year-old actor, who recently appeared in the Clint Eastwood-directed movie 'American Sniper', has expressed an interest in the project after Warner Bros. opened negotiations over the rights to the movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
'Orphan X' is the title of an upcoming book by Gregg Hurwitz, who tells the story of a man who strives to helps others, sometimes through violent methods.
The story's central character is ultimately drawn into the world of human slavery, which is engineered by a detective of the LAPD.
Meanwhile, Cooper recently admitted to being surprised by the controversy surrounding 'American Sniper', which tells the story of Chris Kyle, the deadliest marksman in US military history.
Cooper, who's received an Oscar nomination for his part in the film, said "any discussion" about the "plight" of the nation's military should be welcomed.
He explained: "You never know when you make a movie if anybody's going to see it, so to have the audacity to think that it would cause any sort of effect at all would be pretty presumptuous.
"Any discussion that sheds light on the plight of the soldiers and the men and women in the armed services, for that discussion to occur is fantastic."
