Johnny Depp has flown back to the US after injuring his hand during filming for 'Pirates of the Caribbean'.
The 51-year-old star, who plays Captain Jack Sparrow in the popular franchise, has been in Australia filming the eagerly-awaited new movie, but has decided to head back home because he needs to undergo surgery.
The injury did not occur while Depp was on set and Queensland police and ambulance services have confirmed they were not called to any incident.
A spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia: "We did not have to make any response on the Gold Coast involving him.
"He may have taken himself by private means to hospital but we did not transport him or treat him for any injuries."
Although the injury means Depp will be absent from the set for around two weeks, it will only minimally affect production as other scenes are filmed.
What's more, a spokesperson has confirmed the film's release date will still be July 2017.
Since arriving in Australia for the new movie, Depp has been spotted at a number of events, including the Marilyn Manson show in Brisbane late last month, where he took to the stage to perform alongside the rocker.

WWE Superstar Jack Swagger wants to make a movie with Vince Vaughn, Bill Murray or Chevy Chase.
The 32-year-old grappler would love to follow in the footsteps of fellow wrestlers Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson and Dave Bautista and launch a Hollywood career.
Rather than take the action flick route, Swagger thinks he would fare better in a comic project and his dream would be to land a role opposite one of his comedy idols.
Speaking to BANG Showbiz, he said: "I would absolutely be interested in going into movies. I'm a pretty good singer, I'm an OK actor, and I know I'm a pretty funny guy so I think comedy would be my better route starting off. I'm a big Vince Vaughn fan, I love Will Ferrell. Bill Murray and Chevy Chase are two of my all-time favourites, those guys are great. I could watch those guys' films over and over again."
Swagger also likes Owen Wilson's early films but he thinks the actor has got "weird" like "Tom Cruise in recent years.
He added: "I like early Owen Wilson films - not so much Owen Wilson now. He's a bit like Tom Cruise, he's a little weird."
Although Swagger is interested in starting an acting career his main focus this year is to do well in the ring for WWE and feature as much as he can on the company's flagship TV show 'RAW'.
He said: "I'm focused very much on what I can do for WWE right now. It was great that 2014 was such an exciting year for me. There's momentum there that I want to build on to make 2015 even better."
On March 29, Swagger will be competing in the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royale match at 'WrestleMania 31' - which can be viewed via a subscription to the WWE Network for just £9.99-a-month or on Sky Sports Box Office.
In April, he and the other WWE Superstars will be heading to Britain for the WWE UK Live Tour. Go to www.bookingsdirect.com for tickets and information.

Mark Rylance was inspired to make films by Daniel Day-Lewis.
The 55-year-old actor - who will appear in the forthcoming movie of the Roald Dahl novel 'The BFG' - used to feel inadequate when making films because other stars around at the time were so talented.
He explained: "A few years ago I decided I didn't really want to do film any more. I certainly didn't want to be involved in going off round the world to promote films. I was really happy in the theatre.
"As an actor, you're told all the time by your agent you must do a film. After a while, I thought, 'F**k it. I always wanted to be a theatre actor, to make a good living, I have wonderful stuff to do. I'm gifted in that area. Why should I have to struggle and always feel I'm somehow inadequate because I don't do television or film?'
"I hated the idea that you had to wait around to get a film job. I watched Dan Day-Lewis and Gary Oldman and Ken Branagh, Tim Roth, lots of really brilliant actors who do fantastic things on film. And while I kind of idolised what they were doing, I thought, 'I just can't do that. I'm not that kind of actor."
However, a chance encounter with the 'Lincoln' actor inspired him to return to the screen, because he realised there was nothing holding him back from stepping out of theatre roles and trying different mediums.
He told The Sunday Times newspaper: "I had no idea he would even be aware of what I was doing. And, of course, he was very aware of it. Very, very friendly. And I thought, 'How ridiculous!' I could have been friends with Dan all these years, you know, and shared my delight with things he pulled off, rather than putting him on a pedestal.
"I think that really poked the ice for me, and I thought, 'This is ridiculous.' I've loved films since I was a kid ... this is the pride of a 20-year-old man now."

Shazad Latif relished the experience of working with his "heroes" on 'The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel'.
The 26-year-old British actor - who's best known for his starring role in the BBC TV series 'Spooks', in which he plays the role of data analyst Tariq Masood - appears in the movie alongside the likes of Dame Judi Dench and Dame Maggie Smith, whom he idolised as an aspiring actor.
He told BANG Showbiz: "These are my heroes [that I'm working with], these are the people I grew up watching."
However, Latif admits that as soon as he stepped on set for the sequel to the 2012 comedy-drama ' The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel', he put his admiration for the film's other stars to one side and adopted a professional attitude.
He added: "I'm a big film fan but when you go on set with them, you just have to be professional."
Meanwhile, Latif revealed recently that visa issues almost caused him to lose out on a part in the film, with producers going so far as to train "another guy" for the role as he struggled to make his way to India, where the movie was shot.
He explained: "There was a mix-up in the paperwork. I had a massive visa issue. It was just bureaucracy."

Shailene Woodley started a "push-up club" on the set of 'Insurgent'.
The 23-year-old actress found the best way to stay energised on the set of the sequel was to do short bursts of exercise throughout the day and enlisted a number of her co-stars to do the same.
She said: "I'm naturally athletic so it's fun to do these movies . We did something called 'push-up club' every day to keep in shape.
"It started with, like, three of us. We would get tired throughout the day but instead of drinking cups of coffee, you pump out 15 to 20 push-ups and your body naturally wakes up. By the end, there were 15 of us doing push-ups throughout the day."
Shailene thought returning to play Tris for a second time would be easy but it was more difficult than she expected.
She explained to Total Film magazine: "I thought it would be easy but it wasn't. It'd been a year since we did 'Divergent'.
"We've changed as individuals and in our personal lives, that when you jump back into an old character, you want to bring those new attributes of yourself into that character and then you realise, 'Oh wait, they are new attributes for Shai, not for Tris'. So in that way, it was a little bit different."

Jennifer Lopez loves romantic comedies.
The 'Out of Sight' actress much prefers "silly" fun movies to serious dramas because they appeal to the "hopeless romantic" in her.
Asked whether she prefers drama or comedy, she said: "I prefer romantic comedies.
"They're just fun! That's a fun set. You're just seeing how silly you can make things, and they're romantic, and I'm a hopeless romantic as well. I really enjoy doing that type of stuff."
The three-times married actress - who has seven-year-old twins Max and Emme with ex-husband Marc Anthony - tries to root all her acting emotions in "the reality" and can even impress herself with her responses.
She said: "As far as a type, being more dramatic or being more tough or being more vulnerable... it's all about trying to find the reality.
"I'm constantly reminding myself, 'OK, your best friend just died. If you walked in and saw this, what would it be like?' And all of a sudden, I have this high-pitched scream I've never heard myself do. That's when I know I'm tapping into something real."
And when it comes to sex scenes, the 42-year-old star tries to keep things as natural as possible.
She told Loaded magazine: "Our job is to make everything look natural.
"It's a very vulnerable position to be in. It's not something you ever get used to as an actress. If that moment wasn't intense, passionate and real enough, then the movie doesn't make any sense."

Kendall Jenner wants Jennifer Lawrence to play her in a movie.
The 19-year-old model - who also stars on the E! reality show 'Keeping Up With The Kardashians' along with her sister Kylie and half sisters Kim Kardashian West, Khloe Kardashian and Kourtney Kardashian - thinks the Academy Award-winner would be the perfect person to portray her on screen and loves the 24-year-old actress' sense of humour.
When asked who she would like to play her in a film about her famous family, Kendall said: "Jennifer Lawrence, because I'm obsessed with her and I think she is the funniest person on planet Earth."
While a feature film about the Kardashians is yet to make it into the pipeline, Kendall and 17-year-old Kylie recently published their own novel 'Rebels: The City of Indra: The Story of Lex Livia', about two girls living their lives in a society followed by cameras.
While the story echoes the siblings' upbringing on reality TV, Kendall insists the fictional work isn't based on their lives.
She told HELLO! magazine: "I don't think we tried to directly relate anybody to anybody, but there are definitely characters that are similar to people in our lives."

Naomi Watts thinks it was a "joy" working with Bill Murray.
The 46-year-old actress starred alongside the legendary comedy actor in 'St. Vincent' and has admitted she was "nervous" about the role.
She said: "He's a special guy. I just felt like wherever he went on every day, wherever we were, there was a party around him.
"He was a joy. And I was nervous going into it because I hadn't really done anything comedically that was something that he would connect with. So I thought, 'Oh God, how am I going to prove myself here?' And I just stayed in character, pretty much (the whole time)."
Naomi's friendship with Bill has caused her a few headaches though, as she keeps getting people asking her for his phone number or to hand him scripts on their behalf.
Speaking on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, she said: "Now and again, I get a weird text message from him. And I didn't realise actually having his phone number is a big deal. He doesn't have an agent or any representatives of any kind, I don't think. So once people know you have the phone number, it's a hot commodity...
"Knowing that I would never give them (the phone number), they say, 'Can you send him this piece of material?' or 'Could you read this for Bill?' And I'm like, 'What do I look like? His agent?'"
