'Broadchurch' is to return for a third series.
David Tennant and Olivia Coleman are to reprise their roles as Detective Inspector Alec Hardy and Detective Sergeant Ellie Miller respectively following the conclusion of the second series of the ITV drama last night (23.02.15).
Creator and writer Chris Chibnall said: "We've been overwhelmed that nine million people every week have continued to join us on the twists and turns of 'Broadchurch'. This third chapter has been a glint in my eye for a long time and I'm thrilled to be writing these characters once again."
Following Joe Miller's (Matthew Gravelle) arrest for the murder of Danny Latimer at the end of the first series, the character was found not guilty following his trial in the series two finale and viewers will now have to wait until the third series to find out whether he follows his wife Ellie's advice to leave the Dorset town and never come back.
ITV's director of drama Steve November and controller of drama Victoria Fea have commissioned the third series with Chibnall and Jane Featherstone set to return as executive producers.
November said: "Chris Chibnall knows exactly how to keep viewers guessing and I'm delighted that he is going to take the story onto the next stage."

Poppy Delevingne would have "committed murder" to appear in 'Friends'.
The 28-year-old model - who is set to make her television debut in Comedy Central series 'I Live With Models' - has confessed she would've done anything to land a role in the much-loved sitcom.
The blonde beauty - who is the older sister of model Cara Delevingne - said: "I really would have liked to have been in 'Friends', that would have been great! I honestly would have committed murder to do it - I am obsessed with 'Friends'.
"It is so funny. The other night I turned on Comedy Central and I love it when you find an episode of 'Friends' you haven't seen before.
"It is now beginning not to happen as much as it used to but I still love it and wish I could have been in that."
Meanwhile, Poppy - who plays model Sophie in 'I Live With Models' - admits she thought she'd ruined her chances of kicking off her TV career when she messed up her audition for the new comedy.
She told The Sun newspaper: "I actually auditioned in October. So I just went in and did my thing! I actually thought it went really badly, which is what they always say happens - the roles you get are the ones you think go badly.
"I came back really frustrated with myself as I really loved reading the script, I thought it was genius and so funny so I was really keen to get some sort of part in it and they came back and asked would I like to do Sophie and I was like, 'Yes'. I jumped at it. I really wanted to have a role in it somewhere."

Kate Ford feels "confident" stripping off in 'Coronation Street'.
The 37-year-old actress - whose character Tracy Barlow was seen seducing Tony Stewart, played by Terence Maynard, in a skimpy underwear set and suspenders on last night's episode of the ITV soap (23.02.15) - admitted she isn't "bothered" by taking her clothes off in front of the camera and doesn't feel self conscious about it.
Kate - who trained at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art in London - said: "I know it sounds really weird, but I'm confident doing those sorts of scenes.
"I'm not really that bothered -- once you've had a baby you're not really worried about anything like that.
"It was the sort of drama school where you had to take your clothes off. It wasn't great, but it kind of ripped me of all those inhibitions.
"It stopped me being so self-conscious. It doesn't matter -- you're playing a character.
"It's interesting, because I'd feel nervous on a beach in a bikini, but I wasn't nervous in underwear as Tracy Barlow. Because it's not me."
Kate - who has a six-year-old son with ex-husband Jon Connerty - feels so comfortable stripping off in front of her co-stars, she even flashed her bottom at cast mate Kym Marsh, who plays Michelle Connor, while getting ready for scenes.
She said: "The thing is we're like family, so it doesn't matter. The guy in costume was a bit shocked that I flashed my bum, but I think he also quite appreciated it!"
The brunette beauty admits, however, that she tried to watch what she ate over the Christmas period as she knew she would have to don the skimpy outfits shortly afterwards.
She told The Sun newspaper: "I put on seven pounds over Christmas!
"I knew I had to wear this outfit and I remember thinking, 'I've got to be really good over Christmas'. But when you know you've got to be good, you're not. If nobody had told me about it I'd have probably been quite sensible."

'New Tricks' will end for good this summer.
The popular BBC One comedy drama has been on the air since 2003, but TV bosses have confirmed that it will finish at end of the current series.
In a joint statement, BBC One controller Charlotte Moore and Ben Stephenson, the BBC's controller of drama commissioning, said: "We are incredibly proud of 'New Tricks' and would like to thank Roy Mitchell the brilliant creator, [production companies] Wall to Wall and Headstrong, and all the cast and teams involved across the 12 series.
"However, on BBC One it's important to make room for new series and continue to increase the range of drama on the channel, so it won't be returning after the next series airs this summer."
The BBC has revealed that the final episodes of 'New Tricks' will see the drama - which began as a one-off show - "go out on a high".
Speculation surrounding the future of the show has grown in recent months after Dennis Waterman, who plays former policeman Gerry Standing on the programme, revealed he would leave part-way through the current series.
Waterman's agent Derek Webster said his client - who's been in the show since the start - missed working alongside the show's original line-up, which included Amanda Redman and Alun Armstrong.
He shared previously: "Dennis misses the old crew, the original line-up. The chemistry between them on the set was remarkable.
"It's difficult to get chemistry like that on set and being on the show with new cast members now just isn't quite the same."

James 'Arg' Argent has returned to work on 'The Only Way Is Essex'.
The 27-year-old star is said to have had his suspension lifted by bosses of the ITVBe show after promising them he's changed his ways following a stint in rehab last year.
A spokesman for the reality show said: "James has now returned to filming, having completed a period of suspension."
The funnyman was kicked off the show at the end of last year amid rumours of drug and alcohol abuse, with bosses reportedly claiming they were tired of his poor timekeeping and disruptive ways.
And although he completed his time in rehab earlier this year producers refused to include him in the first episode of the 14th series - which aired on Sunday (22.02.15) - as they needed more time to decide on whether he should be allowed to return.
However, having proved he's willing to keep up his good behaviour James has now been allowed to rejoin his pals and co-stars - including ex-girlfriend Lydia Bright - and will appear in tomorrow's (25.02.15) episode.
A source told The Sun newspaper: "Producers have been in regular contact with him and he will continue to be monitored."

Marnie Simpson wants Ricky Rayment to appear on 'Geordie Shore'.
The 23-year-old reality star is smitten with 'The Only Way is Essex' hunk and would love him to be on her show, though she insists she wouldn't be up for going on 'TOWIE' in return.
She said: "I don't think I could handle the Essex lot - we're total opposites.
"I would love that (if Ricky came on 'Geordie Shore'), that would be amazing. You never know!"
And Marnie has revealed that Ricky already gets on well with her fellow Newcastle-upon-Tyne residents from the MTV reality series.
She said: "Me, Ricky, Gary (Beadle] and Scott (Timlin) went out and we had one of the best nights ever. It was so much fun! Geordie people get on with anyone, so they love him."
While Marnie is smitten with Ricky - who she has been dating for just over a month - she is concerned about the impact her show could have on their romance.
Speaking to Star magazine, she said: "It will be really hard because relationships on 'Geordie Shore' never really work out. I'm determined to change that."
And the brunette beauty confessed to experiencing "anxiety" over her relationship because of the abusive comments she has received on social media.
She said: "Sometime I do get a little bit of anxiety over (Ricky's recent split with Jess Wright) because I've had so much grief and hate on Instagram and Twitter. I've been getting a lot of really nasty, horrible comments.
"People are comparing me to his ex. I haven't watched 'TOWIE' and I don't know what's gone on between Ricky and Jess, but I don't think it's fair to compare us. We're completely different, like chalk and cheese. I don't understand it, I'd never do that to someone."

Carol McGiffin says her relationship with her fiancé Mark Cassidy has been strengthened by her cancer battle.
The former 'Loose Women' panellist was diagnosed with breast cancer last April and has undergone a mastectomy, chemotherapy and radiotherapy to fight the potentially fatal disease.
Carol, 54, insists Mark has been her rock throughout the ordeal.
When asked if her illness has made the pair even stronger as a couple, she said: "Absolutely. People say if you get through a death, you know it's going to be all right. This is as testing. I knew he'd be fine. I never thought he'd leave me. I've got quite good self-esteem. It's been stripped away a little bit but I never doubted him at all."
Carol was worried how Mark would react when she had to shave her hair off but he offered to shore her locks for her and has done everything he can to ensure she isn't self-concious about it.
Speaking to the new issue of Bella magazine, she said: "I thought it was really great that he shaved my hair for me without batting an eyelid. I've shown people pictures of me with no hair and they've just burst into tears."
Revealing how she felt when she first saw herself with no hair, Carol added: "Seeing somebody else in the mirror is so weird. I thought, 'That's not a good look!' It's totally different. You don't recognise yourself. Mark's constantly stroking my head. He looks in it, like he's looking for fleas like monkeys do! I'm always asking if there are any grey hairs in there. He says no but I know he's lying. He likes touching my hair, and he'll kiss my head."

Dean Gaffney was saved by Marmite.
The former 'EastEnders' actor appears in a new video, which sees the soap star saved from a deserted magician show in a north London working men's club, as part of Marmite's End Neglect campaign.
He said: "I can't believe just two weeks ago I was a 'lost' member of the working men's club circuit and now look at me! I genuinely owe Marmite everything for saving me.
"It's with the greatest of pleasure that I'm going to be encouraging the nation to save Marmite too. Together, we will rise up against the spectre of Marmageddon."
Marmite has been working hard to end the neglect of its jars and has used their search and rescue squad to also find those celebrities who were once loved but have since been forgotten.
The video - which sees the 37-year-old actor return to a life of luxury after being saved by the Marmite Neglect Squad - will now spend his days as the new celebrity face of the Marmite 'End Neglect' campaign by spreading the word and raising awareness about Marmite cruelty.
A spokesperson from the Marmite Neglect Squad said: "When we found Dean, he was in a fragile and vulnerable state. We intervened just in time.
"If you know of any celebrity that is neglected, alert the squad as soon as possible. Together we can fight this - let's 'End Neglect' right now."

The identity of the 'Deal or No Deal' banker has been revealed.
'Pointless' host Richard Osman has confirmed that the Channel 4 gameshow's producer, Glenn Hugill, is the voice of the mysterious Banker.
Speaking about how he comes up with new ideas for quiz shows, he told the Metro newspaper: "['Two Tribes'] was an idea that Glenn Hugill - the banker on 'Deal or No Deal' - and I had been thinking about for a long time.
"We kept coming back to it and thought, 'Hang on, this really works, let's pitch it.'"
The Channel 4 show, presented by Noel Edmonds, sees contestants aim to win £250,000 by trying to locate the top sum in a set of 22 locked boxes. As they open boxes and eliminate them from the game, they are offered to make a deal with The Banker to exchange their box for an offered sum of money.
Meanwhile, the 44-year-old television presenter previously admitted he would have loved to take part in 'University Challenge' when he was a student.
He said: "'University Challenge' had a short break in its 50-year history, and those were the years I was at university.
"I'm like the missing generation of University Challenge, in the interregnum between Bamber Gascoigne and Jeremy Paxman.
"I was always a bit gutted about that; I'm not sure I would have got on, but I would have certainly had a crack."
