Louis Walsh could still feature on the 'X Factor' judging panel.
The 62-year-old entertainment manager recently appeared to have walked away from the show forever, saying he was "done" with 'The X Factor', but he's reportedly agreed to be on standby for the next series and will return to the programme if a better alternative cannot be found soon.
A source told the Sunday Mirror newspaper: "In public Louis seems to have quit, but behind the scenes he's been asked if he'd go back to the show if needed.
"The deadline for signing a replacement is getting closer and unless someone perfect is ­available Louis will be back on the panel.
"He's a safe pair of hands and has told Simon he will happily come back."
By contrast, Louis recently hinted he wouldn't return to the show and that the judging panel was set to be overhauled.
He said: "I've done 11 seasons and that's a long time in television - I don't think I'll be going back."
Later, he added: "I think they are going to change the show. I think they are going to get new faces.
"I know Dermot [O'Leary] is gone - and I don't know who else will be back.
"Simon will probably be back because it's his show. Cheryl [Fernandez-Versini] ... I'm not sure. I don't know who else will be back."

Alesha Dixon "couldn't be happier".
The 36-year-old star - who has a baby daughter, Azura Sienna, with partner Azuka Ononye - is currently combining her work as a judge on reality TV show 'Britain's Got Talent' with recording new music, and says she's really happy with where her career currently stands.
She explained: "I'm in such a good place. I'm on the biggest show in the country, I'm recording music, I've got a beautiful daughter and an amazing partner. I couldn't be happier. I've had my fair share of hard times in the past and I've been through a lot, so I think I deserve a little bit of happiness now. I just hope all this continues and everything keeps going the way it's going."
Alesha explained that although music remains her major interest, she's keen to take her career in other directions, too.
She told The Sun newspaper: "Music's obviously my passion, so I'd like to do something to do with that, maybe another talent show or something sparkly.
"But I have done documentaries and I am open to anything that sounds appealing. I'd love to do a chat show. Call me greedy, but I'd also like to do acting, maybe a sitcom or an action movie."

'Made in Chelsea' star Sam Thompson has had 'loads of threesomes'.
The 22-year-old reality - who is co-star Louise Thompson's younger brother - has opened up about his sex life to reveal he's no stranger to having more than one woman, or man, in his bed at the same time.
He said: "One night stands are fun, but if I like a girl I want to chase her, it's like a Pokemon game. It's a bit weird to go on a date if I've already slept with you.
"I've had loads of threesomes but not with [co-star] Spencer [Matthews], but with other mates."

"I was really nervous and I'd had a few drinks beforehand!
"I'm the guy who doesn't want the party to stop. I'm really energetic. I've blown a grand on a night out once.
"I used to be that k**b who'd pour drinks on my head too."

Alesha Dixon wants her boyfriend to "buy a ring and get down on one knee".
The 36-year-old star - who's been with her partner Azuka Ononye, otherwise known as AZ - since 2012 has revealed he's proposed to her on numerous occasions, but she's declined every time because he hasn't done it in the traditional way.
Alesha, who was married to rapper MC Harvey from 2005 until 2006, explained: "AZ has asked me to marry him loads of times now.
"He's always doing it, but I always say no. It's like he's joking around.
"I want him to buy a ring and get down on one knee. When he does that I'll say yes straight away.
"I definitely want to marry him. I'm sure about that."
The 'Britain's Got Talent' judge has an 18-month-old daughter, Azura, with AZ, but has revealed plans to extend their family are currently on hold.
She told The Sun newspaper: "I definitely want more children. Not immediately, because I have a few more life goals I want to achieve, but sometime.
"I love being a mother, it has brought me even closer with AZ, so we would like more children one day."

Mark Wright is to front a show on children's television.
The 28-year-old star - who is best known for his appearances on 'The Only Way Is Essex' and 'Strictly Come Dancing' - is set to present a CBBC programme called 'Dengineers' in which he will make dens and will also include an appearance from sister Jessica.
A source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "Mark is still a big name in TV, even if those formats didn't really work. He has always wanted to be a kids' TV presenter. He starts filming next month and can't wait."
Mark is currently planning his marriage to former 'Coronation Street' actress Michelle Keegan, 27, and recently revealed the couple are hoping to enjoy a "traditional" day with their families.
He shared: "Getting married abroad wouldn't have felt right. It's not like a real wedding in a church in the way our mums and dads married, and we want our families there.
"This day will be how we always dreamt and hoped it would be."
What's more, Mark even confessed they've discussed the possibility of starting a family and have been debating potential baby names.
He revealed: "I'd like traditional but I wouldn't have a say because Michelle likes unusual names."

Louis Walsh has quit 'The X Factor'.
The 62-year-old judge, who has appeared on the ITV reality TV show since 2004, says he wants to spend more of his time managing acts and has revealed the show is set for an overhaul.
Louis said: "I think I'm done with X Factor, honestly. My day job is as a manager, I've kind of neglected that. I want to get back to being a manager.
"I'm working with [former Westlife star] Shane Filan, he's got a new record coming out, and I'm working with Hometown. I'd like to get back to where I started off ... I never wanted to be on TV, it just happened."
Louis said the producers of the show are keen to see it change.
He told TV3: "I've done 11 seasons. That's a long time on television. I think they're going to change it, go for a few new faces."
Despite walking away from the popular reality TV show, Louis insists his passion to work in the music industry remains as strong as ever.
He said: "If you don't like this business you shouldn't be in it. You have to be full time, you have to love it.
"I still love it. I still look at the charts, I still buy music, I still go to gigs. It keeps you young."

Casey Batchelor attracts "morons".
The brunette beauty has been single for six years now and admits she's desperate to settle down but can't find the right guy because they always turn out to be "idiots".
She exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "If I meet anyone they just end up being absolute idiots. I just seem to attract morons. I think I've got like 'moron' tattooed on my head. Either that or it's guys who think they can buy me. You'll get a rich guy and he'll buy you stuff and he'll just think the more he buys me the more I like him and it's just like, 'I can buy it myself'."
The 30-year-old model and actress confessed that while she is attracted to good-looking guys, she's more interested in settling down with someone she can be herself around.
She explained: "I mean, obviously, you've got to look nice and there's got to be the attraction but I really want someone I just get on with. I like acting like an idiot at times and doing stupid things and I want someone I can do that with, I don't really like straight-laced guys. I just want someone fun that I can have banter with."
The former 'Celebrity Big Brother' star - who was caught up in a love triangle with Blue singer Lee Ryan and US glamour model Jasmine Waltz on the show - also claimed that appearing on the Channel 5 reality series last year has made it even harder for her to find a genuinely nice guy.
Casey added: "I think since I've come out of the house it's probably been harder but then you don't know if anybody's genuine either because they might be there because of that and also I want to be with a guy that, don't get me wrong I work hard and I graft and I earn my own money, but I want to be with a guy who can look after me as well."

Stacey Solomon loves that Steve-O doesn't take life "too seriously".
The former 'I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here!' winner met 'Jackass' star Steve-O while competing on Channel 4 snowsports competition 'The Jump' and revealed it was his "young at heart" attitude that attracted her to him.
Stacey said:"On The Jump we just ended up being together all the time and he's so funny and young at heart and doesn't take life too seriously and I love that."
However, the 25-year-old star - who has young sons Leighton and Zachary from previous relationships - admits she had her guard up when they first met and it wasn't until he was heading back to his native America that she addressed her feelings.
Speaking on ITV's 'Lorraine', she explained: "I was just attracted to him as a person but the rest of me was just like, 'No. I'm an independent woman, I'm fine on my own'.
"Then I remember on the last day, I was like, 'Oh no, he's going to go home and I might never see him again', and it went from there really."
The loved-up pair recently enjoyed a mini-break to Cornwall after Stacey surprised him with the trip.
Steve-O posted an image of them sharing a kiss on Facebook, alongside the caption: "I wanted to be able to say I went surfing in England, so my sweetheart arranged a three day vacation in Cornwall for us. Thank you, Stacey Solomon - you're the best! xoxo (sic)."

Simon Cowell has hinted Cheryl Fernandez-Versini will return to 'The X Factor'.
The 55-year-old star appears to have suggested that both himself and the 'I Don't Care' singer will be returning to the judging panel on the ITV singing competition later this year but insisted nothing is "set in stone".
Asked which of last year's judges - who also include Louis Walsh and Mel B - will be returning, Simon said: "Cheryl and me are fine."
Despite seeming to confirm that he and Cheryl will be back for the next series, he refused to comment on whether former 'Xtra Factor' presenters Caroline Flack and Olly Murs will be taking over from Dermot O'Leary as hosts but admitted that he was "excited".
Speaking about Dermot's decision to step down from the show after eight years the 'Britain's Got Talent' host added to tellymix.co.uk: "Dermot's cool, however, he did a lot of years.
"I think he wanted a change. I respect that.
"He'll always get work, he's a very talented guy and we'll do stuff together."
The show's executive producer Richard Holloway recently revealed a number of changes would be taking place ahead of the new series.
He said previously: "There will be some exciting changes. The name of the show will stay the same but we are looking at the format and the judges.
"There will be some surprises this year. But I can't go into detail."
