Sia celebrates six years of sobriety

Sia has celebrated six years of sobriety.
The 40-year-old musician has struggled with alcoholism and drug abuse throughout her life, and she took to Twitter on Saturday (10.09.16) share her joy at getting through another year clean and thanking those who have helped her along the way.
The ‘Chandelier’ hitmaker tweeted: "6 years sober today. Thank you to all those who have contributed knowingly and unknowingly. I love you, keep going."
Earlier this year, the ‘Cheap Thrills’ songwriter admitted on ‘The Late Late Show with James Corden’ that she had previously suffered with drug and alcohol addiction and revealed that she "sobered up" when she started to gain fame.
She said: "I was a singer already for like 10 or 11 years to mediocre success, and I was an alcoholic and a drug addict, and I sobered up and decided I didn’t want to be an artist any more. I was starting to get a little bit famous and it was destabilising in some ways … so I thought, ‘What doesn’t exist in pop music at the moment?’ and it was mystery."
Speaking previously, the ‘Elastic Heart’ singer admitted that she "didn’t know" she was an alcoholic but then she took a long hard look at her life and realises she was "unhappy".
Sia – who has worked with a host of pop stars such as Rihanna, Rita Ora, Britney Spears and Jessie J – revealed: "All I wanted to do was write for pop stars. For one reason or another it never happened for me. Then I got seriously addicted to Vicodin and Oxycodone, and I was always a drinker, but I didn’t know I was an alcoholic. I was really unhappy being an artist and I was getting sicker and sicker."
After being diagnosed with hyperthyroidism – a condition that occurs due to the body making too much of the thyroid hormone – in 2010, she managed to control her autoimmune condition and get on the path to recovery.
