Russell Crowe: Actresses need to act their age

Russell Crowe thinks actresses need to act their age.
The 50-year-old Hollywood actor has slammed older female stars who complain about the industry being discriminatory against middle-aged women, insisting there are roles out there but they still expect to be cast as young characters
He explained: "I think you'll find that the woman who is saying that [the roles have dried up] is the woman who at 40, 45, 48, still wants to play the ingénue, and can't understand why she's not being cast as the 21 year old."
The 'Noah' star - who has 11-year old Charles and Tennyson, eight, with ex-wife Danielle Spencer - went on to say his view is supported by successful women in the industry who have become renowned for playing older characters.
He continued: "Meryl Streep will give you 10,000 examples and arguments as to why that's bulls**t.
"So will Helen Mirren, or whoever it happens to be."
Russell added film stars need to ensure they are comfortable with who they are in order to succeed in the industry.
He told Australian Women's Weekly: "'If you are willing to live in your own skin, you can work as an actor. If you are trying to pretend that you're still the young buck when you're my age, it just doesn't work."

Kate Hudson and Matt Bellamy spending Christmas together

Kate Hudson and Matt Bellamy are spending Christmas together.
The former couple - who confirmed earlier this month they had ended their engagement after four years together - are in Aspen, Colorado for the festive season and appeared on very good terms as they shopped for last-minute gifts at Boogies at the weekend, before stopping for coffee and pastries at Paradise Bakery.
One onlooker told E! News: "They seemed very cordial. Friends are with them. Kate's brother is there too. Overall, it looks very friendly and not romantic."
Last Christmas, the pair - who have three-year-old son Bingham together - spent the festive season with the Muse rocker's relatives in the UK but this year they are believed to be staying at the 'Fool's Gold' actress' family home in the countryside.
The 35-year-old actress - who also has 10-year-old son Ryder with her ex-husband Chris Robinson - has previously spoken of how much she enjoys her "traditional" Christmases in Colorado with mother Goldie Hawn and stepfather Kurt Russell.
She said recently: "We always go home. I grew up in Colorado and we always [go] back to Colorado. The whole family comes -- my brothers and all of the kids and at some point during Christmas we all get together and do that.
"We're [a] super traditional Christmas family. Mom and I decorate the house. We make snowmen -- kind of magical."

Lady Gaga likens album to acid

Lady Gaga felt she was making her own acid to help survive in her life when she created 'ARTPOP'.
The 28-year-old singer has likened her third studio record to the powerful hallucinogenic drug because she needed the album to help overcome criticisms about her musical ability and she also believes the record helped youngsters to overcome their own troubles and depression.
She said: "With that album it's like I was creating my own acid. Acid is a synthetically-created drug, in laboratories, and I created a synthetic musical drug for myself to survive my life.
"But then as I travelled around the world I met more and more kids that were fully f***ing 'ARTPOP' to the wildest galaxies of their dreams. Kids whose whole lives were changed by the album.
"You know, Planet Venus is a place that they go in their minds when they are at home, to escape their family life, their troubles, their depression."
The 'Born This Way' hitmaker - who is dating actor Taylor Kinney - admits she loves to "go crazy" and have a few drinks at night but can also turn off that side of herself and easily revert back to the classical-trained pianist she is when she needs to.
Speaking to Yahoo! Style, she added: "You know, I'm the lady by day, and I'm Gaga by night. And I'm always going to be that way, because it's a testament to your discipline as a musician. I do like to drink, I like to get crazy, I like to go out with my friends, and I like to sing rock and roll. I used to go-go dance!
"At the end of the day I'm a classically-trained pianist and I'm a singer, and that's what allows the girl that goes out at night to also go on stage with Tony Bennett at Lincoln Center. Because I know how to do it."

Sam Smith heading to Australia to avoid festive family rows

Sam Smith will head to Australia for New Year's Eve to avoid arguing with his family.
The 'Stay With Me' hitmaker has confessed he will travel Down Under after Christmas to avoid alcohol-fuelled clashes with his parents, Kate and Frederick, and his sisters, after spending a lot of time with them over the festive period.
The 22-year-old singer insists his family rows aren't "huge" but is keen to break with tradition after arguing with them "every New Year's Eve for 10 years".
He said: "I have argued with my family every New Year's Eve for 10 years.
"So I'm going to travel to the other side of the world and strap myself to a tree so I can't argue with anyone.
"It's not huge arguments, but when all my family drink a bit and you've been together for 10 days over Christmas, at the end you all start arguing. It's just like any family."
London-born Sam also confessed to penning a new "personal" song about his family in which he opens up about his parents divorce when he was 18.
The Grammy Award-nominee is keen to release the new track, after checking his parents were happy for it to go ahead, and hopes it will become part of his second album in the future.
He told the Mirror newspaper: "It's a song about my mum and dad splitting up. I played it to all my family and they have been in tears every time they listen to it.
"My parents split up when I was 18. I had the most amazing experience of divorce. They are still best friends, it wasn't really sad.
"The song is about how far we have come. It is quite an intense song, so I had to ring them up and ask them if it was OK to play it to my management. It is very personal.
"They were amazing about it. It's a song I can't wait for people to hear. I really think a lot of people are going to relate to it."

Courtney Love is a ‘huge fan’ of One Direction

Courtney Love is a "huge fan" of One Direction.
The 50-year-old rocker - who was married to Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain until his suicide in 1994 - couldn't get enough of the 'Kiss You' hitmakers as they hung out together at the Saturday Night Live TV afterparty in New York over the weekend and was keen to take selfies with the group.
The band - made up of Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Zayn Malik and Harry Styles - are said to have equally enjoyed their encounter with Courtney, with Louis, 22, particularly pleased about meeting "rock royalty".
A source told The Sun newspaper: "Louis enjoyed chatting to Courtney as he's into all kinds of music and loves that she's rock royalty.
"Harry also chatted to her for a while. It was funny, as Courtney was clearly a huge fan and dead set on staying until she got selfies with the band."
Following the bash, Courtney shared a photograph of herself with Louis to her 775,000 Twitter followers with the caption, "Good times with some great guys."
Meanwhile, Harry Styles was spotted enjoying himself with 'Bridesmaids' actress Kristen Wiig, 41.
The 20-year-old heartthrob was filmed dancing with the star to the 1987 hit 'Time of My Life' from the musical 'Dirty Dancing' at the event on December 21.

Sigourney Weaver’s Halloween romance

Sigourney Weaver met her husband at a Halloween square dance.
The 65-year-old actress celebrated her 30th wedding anniversary with film director Jim Simpson over the summer, and recalled how they met at a party she hosted while filming 'Ghostbusters'.
She said: "I gave a Halloween square dance when I started filming 'Ghostbusters'. He came to it and that's when we started going out."
The star - who is currently filming 'A Monster Calls' - hoped to recreate the bash to commemorate their anniversary, but admitted she is usually so busy so she wanted to enjoy her time off and not worry about organising a party.
She explained: "We were in upstate New York for two months and I feel as though we celebrated all summer."
Talking about the idea of holding the dance - which involved four couples - she continued: "We were going to do it again, but it takes a lot of energy to organise a big party. These days couples are so busy, there's no time to spend together so it was just nice for us to load around and enjoy nature."
The 'Avatar' actress added she has become broody for a grandchild in recent years, but confessed it is unfortunate the couple's daughter, 24-year-old Charlotte Simpson has no plans to have a baby.
She added to You magazine: "I hope I get to have grandchildren while I can still function. I don't want to be 90! But these kids today are so busy living their lives and I can't even imagine my daughter settling down."

Priscilla Presley’s late marriage announcement

Priscilla Presley only told her mother she was getting married a day before her wedding day.
The 69-year-old actress and her former husband, late rock icon Elvis Presley, were determined to keep their big day private so tried to keep things as secret as possible until they tied the knot in 1967.
She said: "He proposed to me before Christmas in 1966 but when news got out we cancelled it because we wanted our wedding to be a personal celebration, not a fanfare or circus.
"Then we were going to do it the following March, but Elvis was in a movie and finally the date was set for 1 May.
"Everything was shrouded in secrecy - we didn't even tell my mother and brother until the day before the wedding."
The couple were so good at keeping things hidden, their daughter Lisa Marie, now 46, didn't realise they had divorced in 1973 until some years later.
Priscilla added to HELLO! magazine: "Elvis was a good dad. He was lenient and I was the strict one - I had to be because he was often touring so when he was with her, he didn't want to discipline her.
"She was nine when he died, but I think she had a good understanding of what her father was like.
"Even when we divorced, she would see a lot of her father and we were always speaking on the phone. I would take her to the concerts and every opening, we continued our relationship.
"He was touring a lot, but when he was back we would go to his house and hang out. My daughter told me she didn't know we were divorced, which was the greatest compliment."

Camila Alves is teaching daughter to cook

Matthew McConaughey's wife is teaching their four-year-old daughter how to cook.
Camila Alves, who has three children with the 'Interstellar' star, developed a passion for cooking at a young age and is eager her skills on to their little girl, Vida.
The Brazilian model and lifestyle blogger explained: "One of my favorite memories from growing up in Brazil is being in the kitchen with my family and watching everyone bake and cook. I loved seeing my mom put her own twist on years-old family recipes and also create new dishes. This made me develop a passion for cooking at a young age and would eventually inspire me to prepare meals and host wonderful family dinners. And the gatherings would get bigger and even more fun around the holidays!
"I love having my daughter in the kitchen with me as I prepare meals. We talk about anything and everything!"
The 32-year-old beauty, who also has sons Levi, six, and Livingston, two, with the 45-year-old Oscar winner, believes cooking has helped her to create "a strong bond" with her family.
She also told PEOPLE.com: "I also love the freedom cooking gives me to experiment, create new recipes and make a very tasty meal using the most simple recipes and ingredients."

Kanye West has bigger wardrobe than Kim Kardashian West

Kanye West has a bigger wardrobe than Kim Kardashian West.
The 37-year-old rapper, who has 18-month-old daughter North, with his reality TV star wife, has reportedly had a new 15-feet-long walk-in closet installed in their $20 million mansion in Hidden Hills, California to store all of his designer clothes.
Despite having her own clothing line, the 'Keeping Up with the Kardashians' beauty's wardrobe measures almost three-feet less than the rapper's at just over 12 feet, according to Building and Safety Department records obtained by gossip website RadarOnline.com.
The couple, who got married in Italy last May, have also added a 23-feet-long dressing room to their new five-bedroom home, as well as a private spa room with a circular shower and bathtub, but the lavish property currently doesn't have a nursery for North.
The pair moved in with Kim's mother, Kris Jenner, shortly before North's birth in June 2013 in order to renovate an $11 million home in Bel Air.
But earlier this year they decided to put that property on the market and bought their Hidden Hills house, as they got fed up of waiting for the extensive work to be completed.
Kim recently revealed they are planning to move into their abode this month.
Asked what she is getting North for Christmas, she said: "It just got delivered so when we move in [to our new home], she'll see this new, fun play stuff that we got for her. We're going to show her on Christmas."
