Robert Bathurst joins Dad’s Army remake

Robert Bathurst, Bernard Cribbins and Mat Horne will star in a remake of three lost ‘Dad’s Army’ episodes.
The ‘Cold Feet’ star is to take on the role of Sergeant Wilson when the hat-trick of eps are re-shot, with Bernard in line to be Private Godfrey, and Mat will also appear in the project.
According to the Daily Mail newspaper, Kevin McNally will portray Captain Mainwaring, made famous by Arthur Lowe.
The trio of episodes, ‘The Loneliness Of The Long Distance Walker’, ‘Stripe For Frazer’ and ‘Under Fire’, were lost after they were recorded over.
They aired in series two of the nine-season sitcom, which was based on the hapless exploits of a British Home Guard during the Second World War.
In the original TV series – which ran from 1968 until 1977 – Wilson was portrayed by John Le Mesurier, who Robert played in BBC film ‘Hattie’, which told the story of the late actor’s ex-wife Hattie Jacques.
Last month, Gold boss Pete Thornton revealed the project was in the works.
He said: "We’ve been working on this project for several years and will be respecting the genius of the original series. If ever there was a time to ‘stick to the script’ then this is it."
At the time, Sir David Jason was thought to be in line to play Captain Mainwaring, Hugh Laurie as Sgt Arthur Wilson and EastEnders’ Danny Dyer as Private Joe Walker.
Pete added: "The lost episodes are currently being cast, with an extensive hunt on to find the perfect candidates to take on the daunting task of bringing these much-loved comedy characters to life once more."
