Rio Ferdinand’s priority is to protect his children

Rio Ferdinand will not talk about his romance with ‘The Only Way is Essex’ star Kate Wright.
The 38-year-old Manchester United legend has vowed to never speak about his relationships in order to protect his three children who were tragically left without a mother after his wife Rebecca died from breast cancer in May 2015.
Rio has since been raising his sons Lorenz, 11, and Tate, eight, and daughter Tia, six, as a single dad with the help of his family and he wants his private life to remain private because his priority is to ensure his kids are happy and well.
In an interview with BBC Radio 5 to discuss his BBC documentary ‘Being Mum and Dad’ he politely declined to discuss his dates with Kate – whom he first met in Dubai.
When asked about his relationship with the blonde beauty, he said: "That’s disappointing … protecting my children is always the biggest thing for me. And that’s what I’m fearful of with things being in the press … I’ve never spoken about my relationships in the past, in the public eye, and I’m not going to start talking about relationships or potential relationships that people are reporting on."
Widower Rio did admit that the documentary gave him an opportunity to explore his own feelings about trying to move on from losing Rebecca.
The BT Sport pundit said: "But the documentary has taught me there isn’t a right time for anything like that, for if you’re going to move on in a relationship. There is no right time. The only person who knows the right time is the person in those shoes."
‘Being Mum and Dad’ will air on BBC One on Tuesday March 28 at 9pm.
