Nicole Kidman’s eulogy to dad

Nicole Kidman paid tribute to her "friend and protector" at her father's funeral today (19.09.14).
The 47-year-old actress gave a eulogy for her beloved dad Dr. Anthony Kidman at St Francis Xavier Church in Lavender Bay, Sydney, as well as performing an acoustic rendition of 'Amazing Grace' with her husband Keith Urban.
In her eulogy, Nicole explained to mourners - including Russell Crowe and his ex-wife Danielle Spencer - how her psychologist dad was always there for her, especially following her split from husband Tom Cruise in 2001.
She said: "He was the father that was on a plane, hours after I got divorced, to come and take care of me, staying with me for weeks for as long as I needed.
"He was also the father who would when I was crying always tell me 'Nicki, it's going to be OK'."
"He was the father that would come to the principal's office after I forged his signature because I was wagging.
"The principle would ask 'Is this your signature?' and he would say 'Yes!'
"I'm a girl, a woman that was raised by an extraordinary man, a good man, a compassionate man, a strong man,"
"He was a man that was always there for me, a thinker, my confidant, my friend and my protector."
Nicole and Keith's daughters, Sunday, six, and Faith, three, were also at the funeral, but Isabella, 21, and Conor, 19, her adopted kids with Tom, did not attend.
Dr. Kidman, 75, died in Singapore of an apparent heart attack while visiting his daughter Andrea, her husband and their six children, all of whom were at the funeral service.

Rian Johnson avoiding Star Wars ‘responsibility’

Rian Johnson is trying not to feel too "responsible" for the 'Star Wars' franchise.
The 40-year-old filmmaker is directing 'Star Wars: Episode VIII' and expect to helm Episode 'IX' admits that, when it comes to the new movies, it is a "challenge" staying true to the original while also not getting too involved in the early films.
He said: "I'm figuring it out as I go. I'm dancing on top of the avalanche a little bit. But it's a challenge of remembering what inspires you about the original films, but I think you can probably go to the wrong place by feeling too responsible to it. You have to keep your head loose enough to tell a story you actually care about."
The director may have only just begun work on the project, but admits it is the "most fun" he has ever had on a film.
Speaking to Terry Gilliam on the TalkHouse Podcast, Johnson, he said: "I'm just starting into it, but so far it's the most fun I've ever had writing. It's just joyous.
"The first movies I was making in my head were part of this world, so part of it is a direct connection - it's almost like an automatic jacking-in into childhood in a weird way."
J.J. Abrams is currently shooting 'Episode VII', which will be out on December 18, 2015.
'Episode VIII' is expected to follow in 2017.

Michael Douglas prefers playing villains

Michael Douglas insists it's much more fun to play villains.
The 69-year-old actor has had a varied career but admits he much prefers taking on the role of a villain and even claimed being an unlikeable character is more likely to see you win an award.
Quizzed on whether it's more fun to play the villain, he said: "Oh yeah. Much more fun. You get to be bad. B-b-b-b-b-b-bad to the bone.
"My father ['The Bad and the Beautiful' actor Kirk Douglas] was the sensitive young man for seven pictures until The Champion. He played a prick and was nominated for an Oscar. Most everyone's careers, their biggest successes have been through playing villains."
However, the Hollywood legend - who is currently starring in 'The Reach' - went on to admit that while he thinks actors receive more accolades for villain roles, it's much harder to play a "nice guy".
He told The Guardian newspaper: "Nice guys are more and more difficult to play in terms of getting the edges. I enjoy the challenge of winning an audience over.
"The audience hate you at the beginning of the picture, and by the end they're going, 'Wellllll. He's not so bad."

Lacey Turner: Filming Our Girl an ‘eye-opener’

Lacey Turner says filming 'Our Girl' was a real "eye-opener".
The 'EastEnders' actress stars as soldier Molly Dawes in the BBC One military drama and admits filming in the South African heat for scenes for the upcoming series set in Afghanistan was a real struggle.
Quizzed on what it was like filming in all of the army gear in the heat, she told Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes on 'This Morning': "It is really hard actually. I think that was probably the toughest thing out of the whole job, just getting used to the heat and stuff.
"But we did a week's boot camp when we got there and we started in shorts and then gradually as the days went on we added our combat bottoms and then the long sleeves and then your osprey and then your Bergen and then your helmet. So as the week went on you sort of acclimatised to it."
The 26-year-old star went on to explain that while the experience was certainly an "eye-opener", it she has no doubt the real thing is much, much harder.
She added: "It's such an eye-opener, when you try and experience something that's similar but nothing like the real thing. I mean, just moving around is hard. If you imagine trying to get from A to B while being shot at, I just can't ... What they do is amazing."
'Our Girl' series two kicks off on BBC One on Sunday September 21 at 9pm.

Nick Frost for Doctor Who Christmas special

Nick Frost is to guest star in the 'Doctor Who' Christmas special.
The 'Shaun of the Dead' star is to join the titular Time Lord, played by Peter Capaldi, and his companion Clara Oswald (Jenna Coleman) for the one-off episode of the sci-fi series set to air this Christmas.
He said of his upcoming role: "I'm so thrilled to have been asked to guest in the 'Doctor Who' Christmas Special, I'm such a fan of the show. The read-through was very difficult for me; I wanted to keep stuffing my fingers into my ears and scream, 'No spoilers!'
"Every day on set I've had to silence my internal fan-boy squeals!"
Lead writer and executive producer Steven Moffat added: "Frost at Christmas - it just makes sense! I worked with Nick on the 'Tintin' movie many years ago and it was a real pleasure to lure him back to television for a ride on the Tardis."
Nick will be joined in the action-packed special by former 'Coronation Street' actress Natalie Gumede, Fresh Meat's Faye Marsay, Misfits actor Nathan McMullen and Michael Troughton.
Michael will be following in the footsteps of his father Patrick Troughton, who played the second incarnation of the Doctor.
The 'Doctor Who' Christmas special - which was written by Moffat and directed by Paul Wilmshurst and will be shot in Cardiff - is to air on BBC One.

Judy Murray facing Strictly Come Dancing fan backlash?

Judy Murray has become one of the favourites to be booted off 'Strictly Come Dancing' following Andy Murray's 'Yes' vote in the Scottish referendum.
Bookmaker William Hill has slashed its odds on the 55-year-old tennis coach being the first celebrity to get voted off the BBC One ballroom dancing show this year after her son Andy revealed he was voting for Scotland to become an independent country in yesterday's (18.09.14) polls.
William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams said: "Andy Murray's decision to back the 'Yes' vote in the Scottish referendum could well affect Judy's chances of winning Strictly and she might even be the first contestant voted off."
Andy took to Twitter yesterday to strongly hint he had voted for Scotland to go it alone.
He wrote: "Huge day for Scotland today! no campaign negativity last few days totally swayed my view on it. excited to see the outcome. lets do this! (sic)"
Judy's odds of being the first contestant eliminated were reduced from 16/1, which they were before her tennis playing son Andy's revelation, to 10/1, meaning she is the sixth favourite to get the boot from the programme.
But she might not have anything to worry about as 'Bargain Hunt' presenter Tim Wonnacott is currently 9/4 favourite to have the gavel slammed down on his stint in the series.
Masterchef's Gregg Wallace is 3/1 second favourite to leave the programme first, but a more positive bet might be to have a wager on the winner.
Pixie Lott is currently 3/1 favourite to win with William Hill, closely followed by former rugby player Thom Evans (4/1) and The Saturdays singer Frankie Sandford (9/2).
Those who don't expect a fan backlash against Judy can back her to triumph on the show at 22/1, while Tim is not expected to be lifting the Glitterball Trophy in December as he is a huge 100/1 shot for victory.

Michael Douglas: It’s OK to tell actresses to lose weight

Michael Douglas thinks it's fine for actresses to be told to lose weight.
The 69-year-old actor is currently starring in 'The Reach', a film for which his co-star Jeremy Irvine was asked to put on 20 pounds of muscle, and he's admitted he thinks it's perfectly acceptable for women to be asked to lose weight if their role in a film as "eye candy".
Quizzed on whether actors have to be eye candy, he told The Guardian newspaper: "It's not acceptable for women to be eye candy?!
"If your role in that picture is to be eye candy and the director looks at you and says, 'You're going to be in a bra and panties and you're looking pretty soft around the middle'. Absolutely you'd tell that person to kick ass."
The 'Basic Instinct' star - who is married to 44-year-old actress Catherine Zeta-Jones - went on to insist that it can be detrimental to a movie if the actor chosen for a certain part doesn't have the right look.
Michael added: "This guy [Jeremy's character] is search and rescue. He's a mountaineer. He's in physical shape. Ignoring the fact that he happens to be a decent looking guy, it would be wrong for him to not be in shape.
"If you wanted Seth Rogen running through the desert, that's a different movie."

Lauren Conrad spent 11 months writing vows

Lauren Conrad spent 11 months writing her wedding vows.
The 28-year-old designer, who tied the knot with 34-year-old William Tell at a winery in Santa Ynez, California earlier this month, was determined to blow him away with her poignant words during their ceremony.
She said: "I kept a folder in my phone, and whenever I thought of something, I'd add it."
But William, who was worried "nothing was going to be good enough", broke down in tears while sharing his vows.
She said: "He needed a hankie! I kept it together."
But the blonde beauty admitted she wasn't tempted to go on a crazy diet beforehand.
She said: "He proposed to me like this, he can marry me like this."
The couple met after being set up on a blind date by mutual friends on Valentine's Day in 2012.
Lauren admits she has a very different idea for her wedding day growing up.
She said: "I always said I wanted a destination wedding - to be barefoot on the beach. [But] we realised our must-have-them-there list was over 100 people."
And she said their special day involved a lot of planning to ensure it was perfect.
Lauren told Us Weekly magazine: "We wanted somewhere that felt removed, but didn't require anybody to get on a plane. We didn't want to be surrounded by structures. But we learned through planning that meant we had to bring in everything from a kitchen to bathrooms to the tent."
The couple, who exchanged rose gold rings, are now looking forward to relaxing now their wedding is behind them.
Lauren said: "We had a busy summer. It will be nice to kind of do nothing."
William added: "Lauren is my best friend who I also think is really hot. We're very good partners. We challenge each other, in a good way. And we both think we're hilarious, so we spend a lot of time laughing. Mostly at each other."

Liv Tyler doesn’t want to know baby’s sex

Liv Tyler wants to keep the sex of her unborn baby a surprise.
The 'Leftovers' actress, who already has son Milo, nine, with ex-husband Royston Langdon, is reportedly expecting her first child with British boyfriend Dave Gardner, but has no plans to find out their baby's gender.
A source told Life & Style magazine "She cannot wait to meet him or her. I don't think she's finding out the sex before the baby comes."
The couple, who met through their mutual friend Kate Moss earlier this year, are said to be "over the moon" to be having a child together.
The insider said: "She couldn't be happier, and her entire family is thrilled.
"Liv is so excited that she's pregnant. She didn't want her son to be an only child. She is over the moon."
Liv recently admitted she was "100 per cent planning" on having more children.
The 'Lord of the Rings' star said: "I hope I will have more children. I'm 100 per cent planning on it.
"If the stork could just drop it off on my roof, I'd be so happy - I'd have, like, 20."
But she confessed she is less certain about marrying for the second time.
She said: "That's something interesting that happens in your thirties. You're not in the stage anymore of princes and happily ever after.
"It's a different stage of acceptance and realisation about the realities of love and relationships. Forever is a long time."
Soccer agent Dave - who is best friends with David Beckham - has a seven-year-old son called Grey, with his ex-wife Davinia Taylor.

Kim Kardashian West vying for a role in ‘Downton Abbey’

Kim Kardashian West wants to star in 'Downton Abbey'.
The 'Keeping Up with the Kardashians' star is reportedly desperate to land a role in the ITV period drama, and resorted to seeking advice from Lady Edith Crawley actress Laura Carmichael, on how best to secure a part.
According to The Sun newspaper, the 33-year-old - who wed rapper Kanye West earlier this year - said: "I'm a big fan. I'd love to be on it if they asked. I love things like that."
The mother-of-one has previously had cameo television roles in 'Beyond The Break' and 'Drop Dead Diva', and recently filmed scenes for the fourth season of hit CBS comedy '2 Broke Girls'.
However, the curvaceous star will be hoping that producers of 'Downton Abbey' don't remember her appearance in the spoof comedy 'Disaster Movie' which flopped on its release in 2008.
Last week it was revealed that Hollywood heartthrob George Clooney has secured a slot in the award-winning TV show for their Christmas special, but it is uncertain whether producers would be so interested in offering the reality television star a role.
'Downton Abbey' will return to UK screens this Sunday, September 21, at 9pm for a fifth series.
