Peter Kay to star in new sitcom

Peter Kay is to star in a new sitcom.
The 'Phoenix Nights' star has been signed up to take on the role of Danny Baker's wide-boy dad in 'Cradle to Grave', a series dubbed the new 'Only Fools and Horses'.
The eight-part BBC Two comedy is based on legendary broadcaster Baker's memories of growing up in a council flat in Bermondsey, south London, in the 70s - which he describes as being similar to the life portrayed in the original sitcom starring Sir David Jason as Derek 'Del Boy' Trotter.
A source told the Daily Mirror newspaper that Peter's character - wheeler-dealer Fred - is that of a "real -life Del Boy".
The sitcom is also based on Baker's autobiography 'Going to Sea in a Sieve', which tells the story of how dock worker and union leader Fred was on a mission to beat the "system".
Baker wrote: "When 'Only Fools and Horses' arrived on TV, most people I knew though it was a documentary."
'Cradle to Grave' has been written by Baker himself and TV producer and screenwriter Jeff Pope, who has penned the scripts for dramas including 'Cilla', 'Mrs. Biggs' and the film 'Philomena'.
Meanwhile, 41-year-old Peter is also making his TV comeback elsewhere, appearing in BBC One comedy 'Car Share' and bringing back his hit series 'Phoenix Nights' next year for Comic Relief.

Dennis Waterman quits New Tricks

Dennis Waterman has quit 'New Tricks'.
The 66-year-old actor has decided to leave the unsolved crime drama and will appear in just two episodes in series 12.
His agent Derek Webster told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "Dennis has decided to quit 'New Tricks'. There are another 10 episodes that they are going to start filming in November and he will be in two of them. So he will be filming with them until the New Year, but then that will be it."
Waterman was the last original cast member left on the BBC show and his main motivation for walking away from his role as former Detective Sergeant Gerry Standing is that he "misses the old crew" - which included Alun Armstrong, James Bolam and Amanda Redman. - and is ready for a new challenge.
Webster added: "Dennis misses the old crew, the original line-up. The chemistry between them on the set was remarkable. It's difficult to get chemistry like that on set and being on the show with new cast members now just isn't quite the same.
"I'm not saying there has been a big falling out or anything, but the original team worked together for 10 years, so it was always going to be a bit strange when people started leaving ... Dennis has now decided it is his time to go."
'New Tricks' is currently in its 11th series and has a star-studded cast which includes Tamzin Outhwaite, Nicholas Lyndhurst and Denis Lawson.
The show first aired in March 2003 as a one-off episode featuring a group of retired police officers solving unresolved crimes and it was so well received the BBC commissioned a full series which has continued to run.

Esther Rantzen considering using Tinder

Esther Rantzen is considering using online dating to find love.
The 'That's Life!' presenter has admitted to being lonely following the death of her husband and confessed she was tempted to give the popular mobile dating app Tinder a try.
She told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "I've heard of Tinder, it sounds fabulous. I shall certainly think about that."
The 74-year-old's husband - broadcaster Desmond Wilcox - passed away in 2000, and while the TV veteran has said she is open to heading online to meet somebody new, she dismissed social networking sites for being too dull.
She said: "I'm not sure I like Facebook, I think there are various Esther Rantzens on there. I think that there are impersonators. I tried Twitter but got a bit bored."
Meanwhile, the journalist and presenter - who previously set up ChildLine - has now launched The Silver Line; a free 24-hour service which pensioners can call for a chat when they are feeling lonely, following her own feelings of isolation after the passing of her husband.
She confessed: "About three years ago I moved from a house to a flat, living alone for the first time, and I realised that coming home to a dark flat with no one to say, 'How was your day?' I didn't enjoy."
Now that the service has launched, Esther is urging pensioners to pick up the phone to ensure mental well being amongst the elderly.
She added: "We're reaching out to people who nobody wants to listen to."

Ryan Gosling is "madly in love" with his baby daughter.
The 33-year-old actor and his long-term girlfriend Eva Mendes welcomed their first child into the world last Friday (12.09.14) and the couple are both said to be "in awe" of their little one.
A source said: "Ryan is madly in love with the baby.
"[Eva is] absolutely in heaven being a mom. She's never been happier.
"She and Ryan are just in awe of this beautiful person they created. It's a really special time for them."
The couple have also ensured their parents and grandparents have been fully involved in looking after their newborn baby.
The source added to PEOPLE magazine: "Ryan's mom and Eva's mom have both been helping.
"They have both been great. The grandmothers are both very excited and both very hands-on - as much as they can be."
Ryan and Eva, 40 - who have been dating since September 2011 - are yet to reveal the name of their little one nor officially confirm the birth of their daughter.
Following the birth at a Los Angeles hospital last week, the happy couple burst into tears when they saw their little girl.

Katherine Heigl on ‘apology tour’

Katherine Heigl is on an "apology tour".
The 35-year-old actress was the subject of a Hollywood Reporter expose on her alleged diva behaviour a year ago but her 'State of Affairs' co-star David Harbour says she is now trying to make amends and smooth over events which occurred during a "very frustrating" time in her life.
He said: "I think she was admittedly at a very frustrating point in her life and she was very frustrated and she was very vocal about it.
"Now she sort of tells me she's kind of on an apology tour, and I wish her well for that because she's a lovely woman and she's really fun to work with."
He jokingly added: "Yes, she pulled the wool over my eyes."
The 40-year-old actor insists he enjoys working with Katherine on their new NBC show and can understand why she sometimes behaves the way she does now he has got to know her well.
He added to the New York Daily News newspaper's Confidenti@l column: "I know that the press has sort of had a field day with her in the past, sort of about her being nasty and stuff.
"But once you get on the inside of something and you start to see all of the personalities ... and once I see her point of view, I somewhat understand a lot of her reactions."

Jessica Alba had business ‘calling’

Jessica Alba says running her business is a "life calling".
The 'Sin City: A Dame to Kill For' actress - who has daughters Honor, six, and Haven, three with husband Cash Warren - loves bother her acting work and her eco-friendly company, The Honest Company, but says they both require very different skills.
She said: "Having a company that's making the world a better place is a life calling. Performing has also been a life calling, but they're so different.
"It takes a completely different side of my brain to do one versus the other. But I'm truly very proud of The Honest Company."
The 33-year-old beauty was inspired to start up The Honest Company - a range of household, health care, and beauty products - after experiencing an allergic reaction during her second pregnancy.
She explained to Glam Belleza Latina magazine: "I had an allergic reaction to baby laundry detergent when I was pregnant, which made me wonder: If a baby laundry detergent gives me a horrible reaction, then what will it do to a newborn? I realised that so many toxic chemicals are used in everyday products."
And Jessica believes it is important to "educate" consumers about using chemical products.
She said: "It's so important to empower people with as much education as possible. To me, we're successful when we can give people the information, and then they can make wise decisions from that knowledge."

Simon Le Bon can’t get his kids to move out

Simon Le Bon can't get his children to move out.
The Duran Duran star has daughters Amber, 25, Saffron, 22, and Tallulah, 20, with supermodel wife Yasmin Le Bon and he's confessed that although they have all grown up now, he hasn't been able to persuade them to move out of the family home.
He said: "My family are grown up now; try kicking them out of home, though - no chance."
Although the 55-year-old singer's daughters are all in their twenties, he insists they have it too good at home to consider moving out and doing their own cooking and cleaning.
He told the Daily Telegraph newspaper: "The hotel of mum and dad is better than any flat apparently."
However, they may be persuaded to fly the nest if the current renovations on Simon's south London home aren't wrapped up in the near future.
He added: "We are turning six bedrooms into three suites. All we have in our house are the f**king builders."
Meanwhile, 49-year-old Yasmin has previously revealed how she struggled with raising three teenage daughters, admitting she often cried when she felt like they were shutting her out.
She said: "All I can say is brace, brace... It's when the shoulders keep coming up. Every time you walk into a room, the shoulders come up.
"It's actually hysterical to begin with, then it stops being hysterical quite soon. I found it very difficult, I really did.
"I found myself crying every day."

Prince Harry transformed into a puppet at birthday bash

Britain's Prince Harry was transformed into a ventriloquist's dummy at a party for his 30th birthday.
While the flame-haired royal was initially reluctant to get on stage during the bash at Clarence House, he was eventually dragged on stage by funnywoman Nina Conti, who asked him to don a comical mask and become a puppet.
The source told The Sun newspaper: "He took it well and had everyone in stitches."
The party - which was organised by elder brother Prince William, 32 - saw Harry serenaded by a giant opera singer called Big Ron and gently teased by musical comic Adam Kay.
Adam - who found fame in 2005 with 'London Underground', a parody of The Jam's hit tune 'Going Underground' - ridiculed Harry and his friends for never taking the Tube in London.
Pop star Ellie Goulding was also in attendance at the birthday bash and performed a set of songs for Harry.
The pair were seen backstage at the Invictus Games - which he helped organise - last weekend hugging and laughing with each other following her performance at the sporting event's closing ceremony.

Kim Kardashian West vying for Downton Abbey role

Kim Kardashian West wants to star in 'Downton Abbey'.
The 'Keeping Up with the Kardashians' star is reportedly desperate to land a role in the ITV period drama, and resorted to seeking advice from Laura Carmichael, who plays Lady Edith Crawley, on how best to secure a part.
According to The Sun newspaper, the 33-year-old beauty - who wed rapper Kanye West earlier this year - said: "I'm a big fan. I'd love to be on it if they asked. I love things like that."
The mother-of-one has previously had cameo TV roles in 'Beyond The Break' and 'Drop Dead Diva', and recently filmed scenes for the fourth season of hit CBS comedy '2 Broke Girls'.
However, the curvaceous star will be hoping the producers of 'Downton Abbey' don't remember her appearance in the spoof comedy 'Disaster Movie' which flopped on its release in 2008.
Last week, it was revealed Hollywood heartthrob George Clooney has secured a role in the award-winning TV show in a charity Christmas special.
But it is not known whether producers would be that keen on offering Kim a role.
'Downton Abbey' will return to UK screens this Sunday (21.09.14) at 9pm for a fifth series.

Deadpool movie given release date

20th Century Fox and Marvel Studios have announced that the X-Men spin-off 'Deadpool' will be released on February 12, 2016.
The character appeared in the 2009 film 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine', with Ryan Reynolds playing the part.
And it is widely anticipated that Reynolds, 37, will assume the part once more when the eagerly-awaited film goes into production.
Although his participation in the project is still to be officially confirmed, it has been revealed by the movie studios that the film will hit cinema screens in 2016, which will come as a relief to fans, many of whom had started to wonder whether the flick would ever be made.
Last year, in fact, director Tim Miller felt it necessary to reassure fans of the character that the 'Deadpool' movie was still alive.
He told Clevver Movies: "Deadpool is still alive and we're just waiting for the studio to embrace what an amazingly f*****g awesome film this would be."
The director added: "Ryan is ready. The fans are more than ready. We just need that elusive green light.
"We will never give up."

Ben Whishaw is to play the lead role in BBC Two's new drama series 'London Spy'.
The 33-year-old actor will take on the role of Danny, who is described as an "innocent, young romantic", in the five-part thriller, with filming set to begin next month.
The new series comes from 'Child 44' author Tom Rob Smith, who said: "Ben Whishaw is quite simply one of the best actors in the country. It's an extraordinary privilege, as a writer, to have him play the lead."
Elsewhere, Polly Hill, BBC's head of independent drama, said: "This is a beautifully written love story, caught up in a spy thriller. A wonderfully complex and surprising story, of one man's search for the truth."
The series - which is set on a London street that houses the headquarters of the Secret Intelligence Service on one side of the road and the headquarters of the gay clubbing scene on the opposite - is set to air on BBC Two in 2015.
Meanwhile, Whishaw - who has also starred as gadget wizard Q in James Bond movie 'Skyfall' - claimed recently he doesn't fear being typecast now he has come out as a gay man.
He said: "It's not a consideration for me, because gay characters are as varied and different as heterosexual characters.
"I've played all sorts of different people, so I don't see the need to balance them out."
