"You know, one doesn't often have the opportunity to have such pleasant surprises in life, that is why I prefer not to know the babies' gender before the birth."
The monarch also confirmed that the twins are due "around Christmas" adding, "But as it is a twin pregnancy the birth will surely take place a dozen days early", reports HELLO! magazine.
He also addressed debate surrounding his kids' succession to the throne of Monaco, stating whichever baby is born first will be named his heir, unless his wife gives birth to both a boy and a girl.
He said: "In the case that one is a girl and the other a boy, it will be the boy."

The 66-year-old heir apparent and his wife the Duchess of Cornwall arrived at the service at Westminster Abbey yesterday (20.11.14) in honour of Lady Mary Soames who died in May aged 91.
The service was conducted by the Dean of Westminster, the Very Reverend Dr John Hall, who said: "In this holy place, house of God and house of Kings, where her beloved father Winston Churchill is honoured with a permanent memorial, we assemble to give thanks to almighty God for the life and work of Mary Soames.
'We remember her war service and the times when she accompanied her father during the Second World War."

Margot Robbie used to eat dinner while standing in a swimming pool.
The 24-year-old actress has admitted to having some quirky eating habits which drove her mother to serving up her tea time meal underwater during her younger years.
She explained: "I was a total water baby. My mom could not get me out.
"She'd put my dinner plate at the end of the pool, and I'd eat my meals in the water."
However, the humble beauty - who hails from Queensland, Australia - was quick to point out that her unusual dining table antics weren't the result of being spoiled by her parents.
In the latest issue of W magazine, she said: "It's not about being rich, but everyone back home has a pool."
Margot also revealed her breakthrough role in the Academy Award-nominated film 'The Wolf of Wall Street' only came about after she decked herself out in a mini dress and incredibly high heels.
Recalling her audition - which took place in front of Leonardo DiCaprio and the movie's director Martin Scorsese - Margot said: "The casting director took one look at me and said, 'Go down the street and buy the tightest dress and highest heels you can find. That is Naomi.'
"I came back dressed like that and read for Marty and Leo. Those heels were killing me, which is what I remembered most."
Ryan Gosling has won a restraining order against a stalker claiming to be his twin.
The 34-year-old actor obtained the order on Wednesday (19.11.14) for a woman who has allegedly been scaring the 'Only God Forgives' star with her strange behaviour for three months.
According to gossip website TMZ, which obtained legal documents from the case, the woman, named Grace Marie Del Villar claimed to be the hunk's "twin flame" and had been relentlessly sending emails and packages to the star.
Ryan - who has two-month-old daughter, Esmeralda Amada, with his partner Eva Mendes - was said to have been particularly unnerved when the female travelled from New York to his Los Angeles home on October 28. During the incident, the obsessed fan reportedly claimed to be "Ryan's twin" when questioned by staff at a security gate, and left a strange doll catalogue for him.
On a separate occasion, Grace Marie allegedly sent 'The Notebook' actor an image of Eva which had been torn from a magazine, to which she attached her contact details.
Aside from bothering the star, she also contacted Ryan's sister, Mandi, sending one message which said: "I am kicking your brother's head."
A court has now ordered the woman to remain at least 100 yards away from the actor, Eva, and his daughter, with Mandi also securing a restraining order against the crazed female.

He said: "On a day off I'll just watch films and eat chocolate in my underwear."
When asked what brand of briefs he's partial to, the 'Don't' hitmaker replied: "Primark. No one sees them, they're only meant to keep your junk in."
Despite his low-key appearance, Ed - who counts Taylor Swift, Courteney Cox and Pharrell Williams among his closest friends - admitted he has been enjoying the high life since breaking America.

Nicole Scherzinger is "obsessed" with 'Candy Crush'.
The 36-year-old singer has confessed she cannot get enough of the puzzle mobile phone game 'Candy Crush Saga' and its newly-released sequel 'Candy Crush Soda Saga' - in which players move colour candies around a board - and finds it the ideal app to pass the time in between her music video shoots.
Speaking at the launch of 'Candy Crush Soda Saga' on a boat on London's River Thames last night (20.11.14), she said: "I'm so happy to be here. I'm a fan of this game, I'm kind of obsessed with it. I'm loving it."
Nicole celebrated the release of the second 'Candy Crush' game by turning the Thames into a sea of purple soda when she pressed down on a colour bomb while standing on a boat which illuminated replicas of candies from the popular game on another vessel positioned underneath Tower Bridge.
The former Pussycat Doll's actions sparked a spectacular soda fountain display, and the brunette beauty admitted it was the perfect way to commemorate her first ever time on the capital's iconic waters.
She added: "I've never been on the River Thames so this is awesome. I never thought my first time on the River Thames I'd be pressing a colour bomb which would explode pink soda everywhere and open Tower Bridge.
"So I'm really excited. It's really magical and fricking amazing."
Nicole will no doubt spend hours playing the game if she flies to Abu Dhabi this weekend to cheer on her boyfriend, Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton, who will clinch the sport's world championships if he manages a first or second place finish in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix race on Sunday (23.11.14).
'Candy Crush Soda Saga' is available to download for free now from Apple's App store, Google Play and can also be played on Facebook.
Andy Serkis was left "screaming in agony" from playing Caesar in 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes'.
The 50-year-old actor portrayed the chimpanzee in the 2011 sci-fi movie and its sequel, 2013's 'Dawn of the Planet of the Apes', but he was glad the ape had grown up in the second movie because he couldn't physically handle putting as much "extraordinary pressure" on his "shredded" knees in another film.
He said: "I was so thankful that playing Caesar this time around he was more bipedal, I'm sure that was informed by the fact that my knees are shredded.
"I think the most physically challenging role - apart from Gollum - was actually Caesar as an infant because the pressure on the knees was pretty extraordinary. Doing that hour after hour I was screaming in agony."
As well as his motion capture role as Caesar, Andy is known for portraying Gollum in 'The Lord of the Rings' film franchise, but admits the effects of his crouching down to portray such small characters has at times left him unable to move.
Speaking at a Q&A to launch the 'Dawn of the Planet of the Apes' Blu-ray and DVD - which is available from Monday (24.11.14) - he added: "When I was training for Caesar I actually bumped into an actor friend of mine, I was jogging furiously, it was Danny Mays.
"He'd just landed this job in South Africa and he was about to move all this family out there. I bent down to talk to him at his windscreen and I was telling him to go for it. But when he drove off I was literally stuck on the pavement. I couldn't move!"
'Dawn of the Planet of the Apes' is out on Blu-ray, DVD and to download on November 24.
