One Direction were "gutted" 'Steal My Girl' didn't make it to number one in the UK.
The group saw their latest single peak at number three last month and though they were upset not to top the singles chart, they think Meghan Trainor's 'All About That Bass' deserved to take the number one position.
Louis Tomlinson said: "'Steal My Girl' didn't go to number one and we were gutted to be honest.
"But that's just the way it is - there's tough competition out there. 'All About That Bass' is just a monster."
Niall Horan added: "I'm all about that bass."
Despite their disappointment, the 'You & I' group - which also features Zayn Malik, Liam Payne and Harry Styles - never fail to be astonished by the support of their fans.
Louis told Britain's OK! magazine: "Everything we do, the fans are so incredibly supportive. Going into an album you think, 'We've had such incredible support over the past three albums, surely this won't be received on the same level. But they do."
Zayn added: "That's why it amazes us even more, because it's persistent."

Emeli Sandé is not happy with Band Aid 30 and wants a "whole new song".
The 27-year-old featured on the fourth incarnation of the charity single 'Do They Know It's Christmas?' but was unhappy with the lyrical changes made to the track and believes a new song is needed instead of the classic hit.
Posting on Twitter, she said: "Dear friends, Yes I agree the lyric needed changing. In fact I feel a whole new song is required. Angelique Kidjo and I made and sang our own edits. Unfortunately none of these made the final cut. (sic)"
Despite admitting its downfalls, the 'Next To Me' singer - who recently revealed she split from her husband Adam Gouraguine after a year of marriage - praised the Band Aid single, which is raising money for the fight against Ebola in Africa, acknowledging organiser Bob Geldof for his dedication to the cause.
She continued: "Aside from my feelings regarding the lyric, there was no doubt in my mind or heart that this project came from a place of pure and respectful intent. Sir Geldof made this clear when he addressed us all: I haven't heard a man speak with such passion and sincerity in many years.
"I am so proud of my Zambian heritage. No offence or disrespect to the beautiful and prosperous continent was ever intended. In my eyes, this song is specifically addressing a medical crisis, which is very real and in urgent need of awareness and support. The response from world governments has been horribly slow and media coverage has been minimal though thousands and thousands are dying. (sic)"
The 'What I Did For Love' singer ended the message with an apology for anyone offended by the single - which is the biggest selling track of 2014 in the UK - once again defending the song by assuring fans that its purpose was to raise money and awareness.
She added: "I apologise if the lyrics of the song have caused offence. I wish the changes had been kept but that is out of my control. The sole objective is to raise awareness and money to provide medical aid to those suffering the Ebola outbreak, which is being worsened and amplified by poverty.
"Thank you so much for your support (sic)."

Zayn Malik is reportedly ready to leave One Direction.
The 21-year-old musician is said to be tired of being famous and wants to quit the band - who released their fourth studio album, 'Four', this week - in favour of a more relaxed and peaceful lifestyle.
An insider revealed: "Zayn is fed up with the whole fame thing. He loves singing and his fans but he just wants a quiet life now."
The 'Steal My Girl' singer is also thought to be considering the departure in order to spend more time with Little Mix star Perrie Edwards, as he wants to settle down with the singer who he proposed to in August 2013.
Talking to the Sunday People newspaper, the source continued: "He has become increasingly disappointed with the little amount of time he can spend with Perrie.
"Unfortunately she is in a band too, they have so little time together.
"Zayn appreciates how lucky he is, but life is about family for him and he is seeing too little of his loved ones."
Their struggle to fit quality time together into their busy schedules has also meant the couple have not been able to make plans for their nuptials.
He admitted: "We are engaged... I've had a few questions about plans for the marriage; we haven't really had any plans yet."
Despite an imminent ceremony being unlikely, Zayn's bandmates - Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Liam Payne - have already started planning a pre-wedding celebration, and hope to whisk the handsome hunk off to Las Vegas for a debaucherous stag party.
Niall told OK! magazine: "You know where we're taking you, don't you Zayn ... Vegas!"

Rita Ora has had a lot of offers for film work since starring in 'Fifty Shades of Grey'.
The 23-year-old singer makes her movie debut as Christian Grey's sister Mia in the long-awaited movie adaptation of the raunchy novel, and though she only has a small part, she is thankful for the opportunities it has subsequently allowed.
She said: "For me this was such a great cameo to be involved in, and even though I'm only in it for a little bit, it's opened the door to a lot of movie things that I haven't actually announced yet.
"It was nice to be a part of it and it opened a lot of doors. I mean, definitely more roles. People have been calling a lot."
Rita also teased that fans will enjoy the movie, which stars Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson in the lead roles.
She added in an interview with Britain's OK! magazine: "Everyone is going to have their own opinions. [But] 'Fifty Shades' is going to make a lot of waves, I'll tell you that much. It's going to be awesome.
"I've seen the film but you'll have to make up your own opinion on that - but you can expect a lot of goodness."

Melanie Sykes' ex claims she violently lashed out at him on several occasions.
The model and television presenter - who is currently on 'I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!' - wed her toyboy husband, Jack Cockings, 28, in May 2013, but the couple split later in the year due to the 44-year-old star's violent behaviour, which started on their Mexican honeymoon.
Recalling one moment in particular on their celebratory trip, the hunk explained: "She got stupidly drunk by the pool - in a complete state.
"I was sitting on the bed's edge and telling her she needed to go to bed because she was so drunk. She went to slap me, but missed because I pulled away. She went again and I landed that one.
"The slap around the face shocked me - especially because it was on our honeymoon. It ended up with me restraining her."
However, the attack was not an isolated incident and her continued violence came to a head in November 2013 when another assault resulted in Jack calling the police to tell them about the star's vicious behaviour.
He said: "I was in the kitchen and she came in and had a row.
"She told me the whole marriage was a publicity stunt. That was the most hurtful thing throughout the relationship.
"I started packing things in black binliners and she was still trying to have a go at me with slaps.
"I locked myself in the bedroom and rang police because I wanted to show her what she was doing was unacceptable. Two police officers turned up and took pictures of marks around my neck and face."
Following the event, Mel spent the night in custody and was later given a caution for common assault.
Jack, who owns a roofing firm, added that they tried to save their ailing marriage with counselling, but the attempt was unsuccessful due to the brunette beauty's stubborn attitude.
He told The Sun on Sunday newspaper: "She doesn't like being told she is wrong."

Jennifer Aniston's dad has ordered Justin Theroux to be "more considerate".
The 'Cake' actress' father John Aniston reportedly shares her frustration that they have still not set a wedding date, over two years after getting engaged, and has intervened to warn the 'Leftovers' star to appreciate Jennifer more and be more supportive.
A source said: "John called Justin to get to the bottom of why there's been no wedding.
"He told Justin he needs to be more considerate if he's going to hold on to Jen."
And the 45-year-old actress is said to have warned Justin, 43, she needs his support as she prepares to promote her Oscar-tipped movie 'Cake' and as a result he has been by her side at more high-profile events and engagements.
The source told Britain's Grazia magazine: "Justin previously planned to spend much of November and December in New York working on casting calls for 'The Leftovers' second series, plus holding meetings for other projects.
"But these commitments have now been pushed back so he can show Jen some solidarity. They've been spending a lot of time apart recently and it seems to have finally hit home for Justin that he wasn't being as supportive as he could be."

Jessie J wants to marry a man like her dad.
The 'Bang Bang' hitmaker - who is dating singer Luke James - admires the dynamic between her parents and admits her perfect guy would have similar qualities to her social worker father Stephen.
She said: "My mum and dad are a great example. My mum, Rose, is a very sexy, independent and strong woman. My dad has always been able to handle her - that's what I'm used to and have always wanted for myself.
"If I end up marrying a man with the qualities of my dad, I'd be very happy. He's an amazing man and very caring, loving, funny and well-dressed."

Anne Hathaway's husband helps her stay grounded.
The 'Interstellar' star, who married jewellery designer Adam Shulman in Big Sur, California in September 2012, reportedly couldn't wait to get back to see him in Los Angeles after two weeks of travelling around the world to promote the film.

The 'Geordie Shore' star has confessed she and James Morgan have decided to end their relationship to focus on themselves and their careers but insists his ex and former 'The Only Way Is Essex' star Maria Fowler has been trying to split them up ever since they got together earlier this year.

Kendra Wilkinson halted her third 'I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!' bushtucker trial because she thought a snake was going to eat her.
The 29-year-old model only managed to secure two stars - which equates to two meals for her and her nine campmates - in the 'Catacombs of Doom' task before calling an end to the challenge, despite saying she was determined to complete the trial.
Before the task began, she said: "I mean, I'm starving so I want those stars. I'm under a massive pressure. I carrying the load on my shoulders so hopefully I can conquer everything and get all 10."
However, when the task began, she was apprehensive about putting her hand into mysterious holes filled with jungle critters to grab the stars.
After confrontations with fish guts and an alligator, Kendra called time on the task admitting she was scared a snake might eat her because it was "hungry".
After begging for the task to end, she said: "Well I got two [stars]. What if I'm the victim? What If I'm the one that they want to eat? I don't know what was beyond that, and I don't know what the snakes would do to that thing and involve me in it."
The mother-of-two went on to blame the failure of the task on her menstrual cycle, explaining it meant she was not in the right frame of mind to secure meals for her campmates.
She said: "I guess I just have more fear than I thought I did. Plus I'm on my period so I'm extra emotional."
Returning to camp, a teary Kendra added: "I don't even know what I'm doing here anymore. I feel like I want to quit. I feel like I'm up to my limit. I feel like the game's over for me; I'm not having fun anymore."
Later in the episode of the ITV reality show, the blonde beauty was chosen to join the Celebrity Intelligence Agency along with Edwina Currie, Jake Quickenden and Jimmy Bullard, meaning she was able to enjoy a secret jacuzzi and became exempt from partaking in future bushtucker trials.

Heidi Montag has praised Spencer Pratt for the "best 8 years of my life (sic)".
The former 'The Hills' star gushed over her beau in a message online on Friday (21.11.14) to celebrate their sixth wedding anniversary.
In a post on her Instagram account, the 28-year-old beauty wrote: "Happy 6 year Anniversary! Thank you for the best 8 years of my life, 6 married! My heart, my soul, my love! So excited for the next year and all the ones to come! This has been the best yet! (sic)"
The television personalities celebrated their relationship with a photoshoot in California's Napa Valley, after which Heidi's 31-year-old husband also took to his social media account to praise his lover.
Writing on Twitter, he said: "Happy Wedding Anniversary to my miracle wife @heidimontag thank you for staying married to me for 6years! (sic)"
The couple's celebrations come just days after Heidi vowed to never have a cosmetic operation again, after famously going under the knife for 10 procedure in one day in 2010, including operations on her breasts, nose and chin.
She told 'Extra': "I'm just done with all of it. I'm going to age gracefully and bow out.
"I disliked myself so much I literally chopped up my whole body.

Kelly Brook has sparked rumours that she is engaged again.
The model - who will turn 35 on Sunday (23.11.14) - was seen sporting a huge jewel on her ring finger at the Teens Unite Charity Ball at Underglobe in London this evening (22.11.14), leading to speculation she is once again planning to get married.
The 'Piranha 3D' actress got engaged to 'Gladiators' star David McIntosh in March after a month of dating, but split in September following rumours he had cheated with his ex-girlfriend Sarah Harper.
Now it looks like the star could be planning to get hitched to her new boyfriend, British model James Crabtree, after the pair were introduced by shared pals, and were seen enjoying festive treats at the Christmas-themed Winter Wonderland attraction in London's Hyde Park on Thursday (20.11.14).
A source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "Kelly and James have loads of mutual friends which is how they were introduced.
"It made sense for a few of their chums to come along, so as to keep it really casual and informal, but Kelly had a real sparkle in her eye."
