Gemma Arterton doesn't chase particular roles.
The 29-year-old stage and screen actress, who recently starred opposite Ryan Reynolds and Anna Kendrick in 'The Voices', said that although she's played the part of "classic literary heroines" during her career, she doesn't seek out specific roles.
She told the Mail on Sunday newspaper: "Having played Tess [of the D'Urbervilles] and Elizabeth Bennet, I seem to have a thing for classic literary heroines.
"But I prefer to see what comes along rather than coveting particular roles."
Meanwhile, Gemma recently claimed she'd never live in the US because people in the country don't understand her sense of humour.
The actress - who was born in Kent, south east England - said the problem is that people think she's being serious when she's often trying to be sarcastic.
She explained: "I love Europe, I live between here [London] and Paris. I like going to America, I've got lots of friends there and I go there for work but I just can't imagine living there.
"I also like our sense of humour and I always struggle when I'm over there because people don't get my sense of humour and they think I'm being serious all the time."

Eddie Redmayne is being eyed to play the lead role in the 'Harry Potter' spin-off 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them'.
The Oscar-winning star, who's best known for his portrayal of Professor Stephen Hawking in 'The Theory of Everything', is the favourite for the role of Newt Scamander, with the script of the eagerly-awaited movie currently being worked on by author J.K. Rowling.
Although Eddie, 33, is still to be officially offered the coveted role, Variety reports that he's the clear frontrunner for the position, having seen his profile skyrocket over recent months.
Meanwhile, J.K. Rowling recently confessed that the movie script is her immediate priority, meaning there's no prospect of another Harry Potter book anytime soon.
She told the Today show: "I'm afraid I haven't been writing the next Harry Potter.
"I have always said never say ... well, not never say never. I've always said I'm not going to say I definitely won't because, because I don't see why I should say that. You know, it's my world and I might choose to step back into it. And in a way, I am stepping back into it."

Chiwetel Ejiofor thinks he's a loner.
The Oscar-nominated actor, who starred in Steve McQueen's '12 Years a Slave', says he's become more "self-reliant" as he's got older.
And asked if he considers himself to be a loner, Chiwetel said: "Yeah, I think so. I love the company of people. But ultimately I feel like I'm self-reliant, yeah.
"I think I've always been that way. I don't think I've ever required the company of people, in order to feel good or to feel access to the world. It's something that to me, when it's good, it's a bonus. Like great art or great music - it's nice that it's there. But if it's not there, y'know, it's not like everything falls away. I can completely exist without it, be satisfied and happy."
However, Chiwetel admits he continues to use his mother as a sounding board for advice, because of their shared life experiences.
He told the Guardian newspaper: "As I get older, and she gets older, it put us in similar places in our psychology, I think. I'm always very interested in her point of view, because often it echoes mine. Not because 'the apple doesn't fall very far from the tree', but because of that echo in our experiences."

Christoph Waltz's 'Spectre' role was written especially for him.
The Austrian actor plays the villain, Frank Oberhauser, in the forthcoming James Bond movie but didn't have to audition for the coveted role because director Sam Mendes knew he wanted him for the part.
He said: "This time I didn't have to audition. For 'Spectre' they already had me in mind.
"In a way, yes [they wrote it for me]. Let's say it was tweaked in my direction."
The 58-year-old star went on to compare the franchise to puppet show 'Punch and Judy' and insisted the project will be "artistically fulfilling" for him.
He said: "A James Bond film can be artistically fulfilling. Absolutely it can. It can be complex and it can be interesting. I consider Bond movies to be an extension of popular theatre, a kind of modern mythology. You see the same sort of action in 'Punch and Judy', or in the folk theatre of various cultures, like Grand Guignol."
Though the fiercely-private actor acknowledges such a high-profile role will only draw more attention to him, he is hopeful that it will provide greater benefits.
He told GQ magazine: "This film might help get other projects green-lit. And I prefer working to walking down the Kings Road any time."

Kiernan Shipka wants to be like Emma Watson.
The 15-year-old actress is a big fan of the former 'Harry Potter' star - who was just 11 years old when she starred as Hermione Grainger in the first movie of the wizarding franchise - and aspires to achieve the same career successes.
She said: "I love Emma Watson, I think she's amazing. She would probably be who I would say I'd love a career like.
"She's a great actress and we've kind of seen her grow up too, so we've got that similar vibe going on."
Kiernan began work on 'Mad Men' - which will end after the current series - when she was just eight years old and found her final days of filming just as exciting as her first.
She said: "That first day on set was probably one of the best. I was so excited to be there, just this crazy excitement. And it was never lost, which is great."
And despite her young years, the actress has a strong friendship with 37-year-old January Jones, who played her on-screen mother.
She told Stylist magazine: "She's so fun, so sweet - we were always just really great pals."

Karl Lagerfeld has turned down a cameo role in 'Zoolander 2'.
The 81-year-old Chanel creative director was approached to make an appearance in the long-awaited modelling spoof sequel but has no desire to turn his hand to a new career.
He said: "I don't want to be in the movie. They wanted me to be in the movie! I'm not an actor."
The film was officially announced when stars Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson made a surprise appearance in character as Derek Zoolander and Hansel McDonald during Valentino's recent Paris Fashion Week show but Karl didn't welcome the interruption.
The outspoken designer told Canada's HELLO! magazine: "I didn't like it."
While Karl doesn't want to be in the film, it was recently reported Kanye West is likely to make an appearance with wife Kim Kardashian West after being suggested for a part by Will Ferrell.
A source said: "Kanye is friends with Will and appeared briefly in 'Anchorman 2' but he wanted to be in 'Zoolander 2' even more. It's very likely that Kim will also appear in some capacity."

Naomi Campbell, Cara Delevingne, Jourdan Dunn and Alessandra Ambrosio are also rumoured for cameos.

Viggo Mortensen claims his new film tells the same story as 'Interstellar' for "a fraction of the cost".
The 56-year-old actor is currently starring in 'Jauja' - in which he borrows a horse to go rescue his daughter after she runs off - and he insists it follows the same basic premise as the Hollywood blockbuster without the massive expense.
He said: "'Jauja is an interesting case in how you can do so much with such little money. If you take a movie like 'Interstellar', which was a very interesting film, most of the important topics in it are the same - family relationships, linear time, who we are and what are we doing, where are we going, survival - and they are dealt with for a fraction of the cost in 'Jauja'."
The 'Lord of the Rings' star - who will next appear in a French film titled 'Far From Men' and independent movie 'Captain Fantastic' - admits that while he sometimes goes unrecognised altogether, he is most often associated with the film adaptations of J.R.R. Tolkien's novels.
Asked what he gets recognised for, he told the Metro newspaper: "Sometimes I don't at all but usually it's for 'The Lord of the Rings' or 'Eastern Promises' ... I've had some people say 'The Two Faces of January'."
Mortensen also admits he's still friends with many of his co-stars from the hit movies, which also starred Elijah Wood, Sean Bean, Sir Ian McKellen and Orlando Bloom.
He added: "I have several friends from 'The Lord of the Rings' - we worked together for such a long time."
