Stan Lee thinks the world "has a place for gay superheroes".
The 92-year-old former president and chairman of Marvel Comics has revealed he isn't generally bothered by the sexuality or race of a superhero, but doesn't think it should be changed once the character has been established.
Speaking specifically about Spider-Man, he said: "I wouldn't mind, if Peter Parker had originally been black, a Latino, an Indian or anything else, that he stay that way. But we originally made him white. I don't see any reason to change that."
Stan said an entirely new character ought to be developed if comic book fans are so keen to see a gay superhero.
He told Newsarama: "I think the world has a place for gay superheroes, certainly, but again, I don't see any reason to change the sexual proclivities of a character once they've already been established.
"I have no problem with creating new, homosexual superheroes.
"It has nothing to do with being anti-gay, or anti-black, or anti-Latino, or anything like that.
"Latino characters should stay Latino. The Black Panther should certainly not be Swiss.
"I just see no reason to change that which has already been established when it's so easy to add new characters. I say create new characters the way you want to. Hell, I'll do it myself."

Paul Rudd's 'Ant Man' costume demands a minimum of two people to take off.
The 46-year-old actor - who will be starring as 'Ant Man' for the blockbuster release - has revealed just how complicated and challenging his outfit can be to change in and out of, because the "suit has more parts than any suit in the Marvel universe".
Speaking to Collider, Paul shared: "There's usually a couple of people, there's a team. Laura and David are kind of the two people that help me the most.
"Normally, I have two. I have the micro-stuff on and zips and connecting wires and screws."
But Paul also explained how much he loves the design and feel of his costume.
He said: "Literally it's like you put it on, you can't help but feel kinda cool. It's a superhero suit, and it's a really good one too.
"The first time I ever put it on was just in a fitting and there were several fittings and it takes hours, it had been a lot.
"You stand differently. It just feels like a suit, and because of that, you're working from the outside in. Everything starts to change and yeah, it's pretty cool."

Tom Holland has been cast as the new 'Spider-Man'.
The 19-year-old Brit - who starred in 'The Impossible' and 'Billy Elliot' - has been confirmed by Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures to play Peter Parker and will take over from Andrew Garfield.
A statement posted on Marvel's website read: "Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios are proud to announce that after a full worldwide casting search, Tom Holland will play Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the next Spider-Man film, in theaters in IMAX and 3D on July 28, 2017. The film will be directed by Jon Watts, director of "Cop Car," the upcoming thriller that made its debut earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival.
"Marvel and Sony Pictures, and producers Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal conducted an extensive search for both the actor and the director. The studios and producers were impressed by Holland's performances in "The Impossible," "Wolf Hall," and the upcoming "In the Heart of the Sea," and by a series of complex screen tests. Following Marvel's tradition of working with the brightest next wave of directors, Watts also went through multiple meetings with Feige, Pascal, and the studio, before winning the job.(sic)"
Sony Pictures Motion Pictures Group Chairman, Tom Rothman said: "It's a big day here at Sony. Kevin, Amy and their teams have done an incredible job. The Marvel process is very thorough, and that's why their results are so outstanding. I'm confident Spider-Man will be no exception."
He added: "I've worked with a number of up-and-coming directors who have gone on to be superstars and believe that Jon is just such an outstanding talent. For Spidey himself, we saw many terrific young actors, but Tom's screen tests were special. All in all, we are off to a roaring start."
The next installment of the 'Spider-Man' franchise will be released worldwide on July 28 2017.

Patrick Schwarzenegger and Bella Thorne are to star in 'Midnight Sun'.
Patrick - the son of Hollywood action legend Arnold Schwarzenegger - and 'My Own Worst Enemy' actress Bella Thorne will play lovers in the new movie based on the 2006 Japanese film of the same name.
The casting announcement was revealed by Deadline.com and the 21-year-old actor's proud mother Maria Shriver took to Twitter to share the article and congratulate her son.
She tweeted: "Congrats to @PSchwarzenegger! So exciting. Hard work pays off. (sic)".
The plot of the original 'Midnight Sun' film focuses on sheltered 17-year-old girl Kaoru Amane who suffers from the rare skin condition xeroderma pigmentosum (XP), a disease that makes her so sensitive to sunlight that even a little exposure could kill her.

The story to the remake will remain the same but with the characters' names changed to Katie and Charlie and the setting moved to the US.
'Midnight Sun' is the first lead role for Patrick - whose ex-girlfriend is Miley Cyrus - who previously played a frat boy in the comedy 'Grown Ups 2'.
Shooting is due to start on the project in September.

Hugh Jackman appears set to reprise the role of Wolverine in 'X-Men: Apocalypse'.
The 46-year-old star, who's in several movies in the 'X-Men' franchise, seems set to return to the iconic character for the much-anticipated new movie after Kika NY - a hand-made leather goods designer based in Brooklyn, New York - posted an image on Instagram that seemed to confirm his involvement.
The image, which has subsequently been deleted, was captioned: "We were just asked to make a special duffle backpack for Hugh Jackman who is filming the new X MEN movie in Montreal. We started sketching - The bag will be ready next week- we will keep you posted. (sic)"
In May, Hugh suggested the 2017 movie 'Wolverine 3' would mark the last time he appears as the Marvel superhero.
He said: "It felt like it was the right time to do it. And let's be honest, 17 years. I never thought in a million years it would last, so I'm so grateful to the fans for the opportunity of playing it
"I kind of have in my head what we're going to do in this last one. It just feels like this is the perfect way to go out."

Lionel Wigram is "working on" a new 'Sherlock Holmes' film.
The film producer has revealed he has come up with "a really good idea" for the third instalment of the series alongside actor Robert Downey Jr. - who plays the protagonist in the films - and his wife, director Susan Downey, having previously brought the detective to the big screen with 2009's 'Sherlock Holmes' and 2011's 'Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows'
He said: "We're working on it. I think we have a really good idea, a good concept for it, and we're working on it with Robert and Susan and everybody. We've had many, many meetings and we have a really good writer who is engaged."
However, the filmmaker - who is currently working on film adaptations of 'The Man from U.N.C.L.E.' and 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them' - is still trying to hammer out the plot and won't make it unless the storyline is "fantastic".
He continued: "We're still trying to crack the story together. For us, if we're going to do a third 'Sherlock Holmes', it has to be fantastic, so we have to be really confident that we can give the audience a story that makes them say, 'Wow, this was worth it, this was better than the last two.' So that's what we're trying to do. I think we have a concept that cracks that, that gives the potential for that, so now it's about how do we get the other stuff to make that work?"
