Emma Watson is to star with Tom Hanks in 'The Circle'.
The 'Harry Potter' star will play young college graduate Mae Holland who is hired to work for an internet super-company, which shares its name with the title, run by a tycoon portrayed by Hanks and two others known as the "Three Wise Men".
Hanks' character's vision for his business is to unite users' email accounts, social media usage, banking and online shopping under one operating system to create a transparent and open community on the web.
However, Watson's character soon discovers the company's intentions are more sinister as she starts to unravel the real reasons for their data collection and surveillance of their customers and staff.
Alicia Vikander was originally supposed to play Mae Holland but had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts.
The screenplay is based on Dave Eggers' 2013 novel of the same name and has been adapted by James Ponsoldt, who will also direct.
In a statement released to Variety about the casting, Ponsoldt said: "Emma Watson is one of my favourite actors, and her incredible talent, sensitivity and deep intelligence will bring an electric energy to 'The Circle'."
Watson, 25, is currently shooting Disney's live action re-imagining of 'Beauty and the Beast' and can next be seen on screen in 'Regression'.

'Downton Abbey' creator Julian Fellowes is "open to the idea" of making a movie based on the hit TV show.
The 65-year-old screenwriter has suggested he'd like to transform the period drama into a film, but has admitted there are no concrete plans in place.
He said: "At the moment there isn't but you never know. Or a stage show or anything else. So I think to have them all killed in a bus [in the finale] would be a mistake.
"I think we bring various things to a conclusion and anything unresolved is unresolved. I'm open to the idea of a movie but I'm not anxious to do it. In my experience, and naming no names, the movie of the series is often a disappointment."
Julian confessed to having "mixed feelings" about making a movie because of the potential pitfalls.
He told Deadline: "Normally they're not very good because the film producer says, 'Oh, it's not going to be anything like the series,' and of course what you want is for it to be exactly like the series. I hope we would avoid that error in doing one, but I do have mixed feelings about it."

Spider-Man is set to star in 'Captain America: Civil War'.
The role of the iconic comic book character was recently handed to Tom Holland, and the 19-year-old British actor is to feature alongside the likes of Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr and Scarlett Johansson in the much-anticipated new Marvel movie.
'Captain America: Civil War' will, in fact, be the most star-studded movie in Marvel history, with Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Paul Bettany, Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle, Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Rudd all set to appear in the film.
What's more, the movie will serve as an introduction for Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther and Daniel Brühl as Baron Zemo.
Meanwhile, Mark Ruffalo revealed recently he's been told by Robert Downey Jr. he'll also star in 'Captain America: Civil War'.
Speaking earlier this month, he said: "If Robert Downey, Jr. says I'm in 'Captain America', I'm in 'Captain America' dammit. And I will wait for the day that my call sheet shows up at my doorstep or my script.
"At this point, I'm told that I'm in it by Robert, which I'll take as biblical, but I just haven't heard or seen from production yet."

Shia LaBeouf was hospitalised after suffering an injury on the set of his latest movie.
The 29-year-old actor was injured while filming scenes for his new project 'American Honey' and required medical attention after a planned stunt went wrong.
A representative explained: "Shia LaBeouf sustained minimal injuries ... on the set of his current film movie 'American Honey'.
"As protocol, production sought out medical attention and Shia received stitches on his hand and for a laceration on his head."
The actor is set to resume filming today (25.06.15) for the new movie, which tells the story of a young girl who falls into the hard-partying lifestyle of a magazine's sales team.
Meanwhile, it was reported recently Shia had enrolled in acting school.
Despite working steadily since appearing on the Disney Channel when he was 10, the actor is apparently set to attend California Institute of the Arts in Valencia later this year.
A source close to the 'Transformers' star said: "He's been hanging around campus."
Another friend said: "He thinks this will expand his acting abilities."
In 2007, Shia admitted he would love to go to university to study Psychology to help him "be a better actor".
He said at the time: "When I get a chance, I'm going to go, but even Yale says, 'You got opportunities right now, college doesn't make too much sense.
"There's something about studying body language and non-spoken emotion - I know the innate response. But to really study it like a science would be fun."

Michael Douglas thought he looked too young to play his character's age in 'Ant-Man'.
The 70-year-old actor - who is starring as Hank Pym in the new Marvel superhero film - has to play a younger version of his character in flashbacks, and said he was worried people would start thinking he looked nine-years-old in the shots where he discovered the serum.
Michael said: "We got realistic about it, you know. They were going to go up to 75, and then it was like try to stick with the comics '60s and then it was 50 years, and then I said, 'Look, I don't want to be vain, but I'm worried, I mean, I look OK for my age'. I'm worried people are going to start to say, 'Was he nine when he made the serum?'"
The 'Behind the Candelabra' actor is starring as Paul Rudd's mentor in 'Ant Man', and described his co-star as "brave" and "funny".
Speaking to Collider, Michael said: "He's great, you know. He has his thing. Once you get somber or sober or schmaltzy, you know, he's going to find a humorous way to end it and he's not afraid to put his face in the pie."
Michael added: "He's very brave. You know, he's very brave, funny."

Kit Harington has replaced Robert Pattinson in 'Brimstone'.
The 'Game of Thrones' star has taken over from the 'Twilight' actor - who was previously announced in the role at the Berlin Film Festival earlier this year - and will appear in the thriller opposite Guy Pearce and Dakota Fanning.
The 28-year-old actor - who is best known for his portrayal of John Snow on the hit HBO series - will play an outlaw, while Fanning will star as a young heroine on the run and Pearce will play her pursuer in the tale of retribution.
The movie also stars Carice van Houten and will be directed by Martin Koolhoven.
Harington - whose character was killed off in the show's shocking season finale earlier this month - recently expressed his desire to appear in the 'Zoolander 2'.
The hunky actor confessed he would jump at the chance to star in the fashion spoof sequel, in which Ben Stiller plays dimwitted male model Derek Zoolander.
When asked if he would like to be in the highly anticipated sequel, Kit replied: "Of course I would, I'm putting it out there, yeah. I'd like to play a character in 'Zoolander 2', I don't want to play myself."
Although he wants to take on more comedic roles, Kit also insisted he's not interested in appearing in romantic comedies.
He said: "I'm not really a rom-com person, I really like farcical comedy like 'Toast of London' or Will Ferrell-style, really stupid s**t."

Arnold Schwarzenegger has been cast in the Javier Gullon-written '478'.
The 67-year-old star - whose latest film 'Terminator Genisys' is released shortly - is set to feature as a man whose wife and child die in a plane crash in the script penned by the Spanish writer best known for the movie 'Enemy'.
Schwarzenegger's on-screen character seeks vengeance for the tragic mistake made by the air traffic controller, who is subsequently placed into protective custody, Deadline reports.
'478' is expected to begin shooting in autumn, but a release date for the movie is still to be released.
Before then, however, long-time fans of Schwarzenegger will have the opportunity to see him reprise the role of one of his most iconic on-screen characters when he returns to the part of The Terminator.
And during a recent question and answer session held at Vue Westfield in London's Shepherd's Bush, Schwarzenegger claimed the first movie in the franchise has proven to be prophetic.
He said: "In 1984 people thought it was absolutely crazy, the world that [director James Cameron] had created. Little did we know that one day it would become a reality.
"Machines have totally taken over. We cannot keep up. I play chess on the computer at medium difficulty and get beaten every second game.
"All that needs to happen now is for machines to become self-aware. That is the only step missing in order to get to that level where The Terminator is.
"We were almost filming reality. It's not like, 'Oh man, this is never going to happen', like in 1984."

Channing Tatum hates 'G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra'.
The 35-year-old actor starred as Duke in the 2009 action film, but has admitted it represents one of his biggest career regrets, and also revealed he was always reluctant to appear in the movie.
Reflecting on the film, Channing confessed: "I f***ing hate that movie. I hate that movie.
"I was pushed into that movie. From 'Coach Carter', they signed me to a three-picture deal. They give you the contract and they go, 'Three-picture deal, here you go'. And as a young [actor] you're like, 'Oh my god, that sounds amazing, I'm doing that'."
Channing was a fan of the cartoon growing up and admitted that, in a lot of senses, he was fortunate to be given the opportunity to star in a movie of that magnitude.
However, he conceded 'G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra' failed to live up to his own expectations and he looks back on the movie - which he was contractually obliged to make - with numerous regrets.
Asked what was wrong with the film, he told radio host Howard Stern: "The script wasn't any good."
