Daryl Hannah: Hollywood still male-dominated

Daryl Hannah thinks Hollywood is still "male-dominated".
The 54-year-old film star believes female stars are cast to be figures of male fantasy in films, but hasn't lost all hope as she believes the industry has the "potential" to express what it is to be male or female in a "transformative way".
She said: "It's a male-dominated industry. It's just a bunch of guys saying: 'Let's make the girl young, and sexy, and hot'. So yeah, of course it's exploitative. And that's unfortunate because it has the potential to be really transformative in expressing the human condition."
Although the 'Splash' actress - who famously dated Neil Young and John F Kennedy Jr. - was seen as pin-up girl in her prime, she has now revealed she felt like she was being mocked by people who thought she was attractive, because years of bullying had made her believe she had a "weird" appearance.
Speaking about her status as a sex symbol, she told the Guardian newspaper: "I didn't realise that, because I was a self-conscious, picked-on kid, when people were looking at me, I'd feel they were making fun of me.
"Because that was the only attention I was used to. So the attention triggered the same old response. I knew that people were looking at me because I looked weird."

Julia Stiles rejoins Bourne Identity series

Julia Stiles will return for the fifth 'Bourne Identity' film.
The actress has been confirmed for the latest instalment in the popular action thriller series which is set to begin filming later this year.
Last year, Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass revealed they would also be coming back to make the movie, which is scheduled to be released next year, after neither Julia or Matt appeared in 2012's 'The Bourne Legacy'.
The 34-year-old star - who plays covert agent Nicky Parsons - had a key role in the third film, 2007's 'The Bourne Ultimatum', although it is currently unclear how she will be involved in the upcoming movie, which is set to open in cinemas on July 29 2016.
However, the blonde beauty - who wrapped filming on crime thriller 'Beyond Deceit' with Al Pacino, Anthony Hopkins and Josh Duhamel earlier this year - recently revealed the original plan was for her character to be killed off in the first film, but had the scenes cut so she could return for the sequel.
She said: "I was really lucky.
"Originally I was going to be killed in the first film. I was flipped up against a wall and my neck snapped, but they cut it together in a different way so I survived, which was lucky for me."

Whoopi Goldberg hands her CV to Wes Anderson

Whoopi Goldberg is desperate to star in a Wes Anderson film.
The 59-year-old actress - whose previous film credits include 'The Color Purple' and 'Sister Act' - is a huge admirer of the acclaimed director and is so keen to appear in one of his movies, she's passed a copy of her CV to actor Jason Schwartzman, a regular in Anderson's films.
She said: "I want to do this right, because you know I love all the Wes Anderson movies and that you starred in like, almost all of them - 'Grand Budapest Hotel' and 'Moonrise Kingdom' and 'Rushmore' and all of those.
"So, I noticed there's not a lot of folks of colour, and I thought I would like to give you my resume to give to Wes Anderson and just to let him know I'm available. As you see, I've interned on 'The Late Show'."
And Jason - who starred in the award-winning 'Grand Budapest Hotel' last year - promised to pass on Whoopi's CV.
He told 'The View': "You're an incredible person who has given me so many things to be excited about. Thank you for all of your work."

Ewan McGregor wants a Trainspotting sequel

Ewan McGregor thinks a 'Trainspotting' sequel would be "extraordinary".
The 44-year-old actor starred as heroin addict Mark Renton in the 1996 movie and has revealed he would love the opportunity to make a sequel with director Danny Boyle.
He said: "I think it might be extraordinary to see a sequel 20 years after the original."
Ewan admitted he'd already spoken to the acclaimed director about making another 'Trainspotting' movie, but insisted he doesn't know whether it will happen.
He shared: "I would be up for it, I've said that to Danny.
"I haven't seen any script yet or anything and I don't know if there is one. There is a big idea that it might happen but I don't know that it is happening, I really don't."
Ewan was initially reluctant to make a sequel, but said he's come round to the idea over the last few years.
He reflected: "I just think I've changed my opinion about it. We've all moved on and there's a lot of water under the bridge.
"I miss working with Danny. I did some of my best work with him and he is, to date, one my favourite directors I've ever worked with because he's such a brilliant director."

Ricky Gervais to make The Office spin-off without Stephen Merchant

Ricky Gervais will reportedly make 'The Office' movie without the help of Stephen Merchant.
The duo worked together on the original TV series, but will not be reuniting for the much-anticipated movie - titled 'Life On The Road' - which is scheduled for release next year.
A source told The Sun newspaper: "Ricky has every right to do a David Brent movie on his own but fans will understandably be gutted to have it confirmed that Stephen is not involved at all.
"Together they created one of the all-time classic TV shows with 'The Office', and all their projects as a team have been so well received."
What's more, it's been claimed the movie will not feature many of the actors from the original show, such as Martin Freeman and Mackenzie Crook.
Meanwhile, Ricky revealed recently that the movie will explore the private life of the show's central character, David Brent.
He said: "I'm so excited that the world will see what David Brent is up to now and where his future lies.
"This film delves much more into his private life than 'The Office' ever did, and we really get to peel back the layers of this extraordinary, ordinary man."

Jada Pinkett Smith was ‘afraid of fame’

Jada Pinkett Smith was "afraid of fame".
The 'Magic Mike XXL' actress has confessed she became wary of the spotlight after her close friend, the rapper Tupac Shakur was shot dead in 1996.
She said: "When I think about what I had going on when I was younger, I do think I was really afraid of fame. I really worked hard to keep everything small.
"I saw how Tupac got devoured by having fame too fast. I watched what happened to him and, in all honesty, I think it scared me."
The 43-year-old star also admitted that her fear of fame meant she was reluctant to take on certain roles in case she became too successful.
The brunette beauty - who has been married to fellow Hollywood star Will Smith since 1997 - explained: "For a long period of time, I really tried to put a cap on fame. I'll never forget when Michael Mann called me for 'Ali', I was like, I have no interest in being in your movie."
Although she later accepted the part, she added to The Sunday Times newspaper's Style magazine: "I look back on things like that in my youth and think, 'What a freakin' idiot you were!' But I realise now I was really scared ... I was afraid of the success. Look, I can deal with the failures. Trust me. Falling on my ass and getting up, I'm good at that one. It's the other stuff."

Jada Pinkett Smith nervous about replacing Matthew McConaughey

Jada Pinkett Smith was nervous about replacing Matthew McConaughey in the 'Magic Mike' sequel.
The 43-year-old actress was cast as strip club MC and Channing Tatum's character Mike's ex-girlfriend Rome in 'Magic Mike XXL' after they failed to secure McConaughey for the sequel and she's confessed she was sceptical about replacing him at first.
Speaking about being offered the role, she said: "I was thinking, 'Aargh, I can't compete with Matthew'."
However, Jada was less worried about having to flash her flesh in the upcoming film, admitting she was "good to go".
The 'Gotham' star met Tatum after he shot to fame in 'Step Up' in 2006 and has been desperate to work with him ever since.
She explained: "I'd met Channing a long time ago. I had a general meeting with him about a movie I was producing at the time that he was too young for, but I wanted to meet him anyway. It was right after, 'Step Up'. I was like, 'Who. Is. He?'
Jada also admitted that although she's happily married to husband Will Smith, it felt good to be surrounded by a cast of hunky men including Tatum, Joe Manganiello, Adam Rodriguez and Matt Bomer.
She added to The Sunday Times newspaper's Style magazine: "My experience as a woman has been that I can see one man who inspires me. One man at a time. But to have a group to acknowledge and validate you... You know what I mean?"

Proud mother Meryl Streep

Meryl Streep is proud her daughters pursued acting careers.
The 65-year-old actress knows that living up to her own success and achievements is a "burden" for Gracie and Mamie Gummer, so she is impressed that didn't deter them from following in her footsteps.
She said: "I'm so proud of Gracie and of Mamie, who were willing to follow in their mother's profession despite all the pressure and attention that comes of being Meryl Streep's daughters.
"They're very strong-willed and determined young women.
"I only want them to be happy in life and I'm very supportive of their work because they made the decision knowing they would always have to deal with that added burden."
Though she has been working for over 40 years, the 'Into the Woods' star - who also has musician son Henry and model daughter Louisa with husband Don Gummer - still takes great pleasure and satisfaction from her work.
Asked if she still gets a kick out of acting, she told Britain's HELLO magazine: "Yes. The best thing is when you're playing a scene and you become your character.
"That's when you know you've succeeded at what you've worked very hard at to accomplish in your profession.
"Those are the truly thrilling moments."

Sir Roger Moore wants former 007 actors for film

Sir Roger Moore wants former James Bond actors to star in an action movie.
The 87-year-old star revealed he's been approached by a film studio to develop a movie starring several former 007 actors including Sean Connery, 84, George Lazenby, 75, Timothy Dalton, 71 and Pierce Brosnan, 62.
Speaking about the concept, he insisted: "I'd be up for it.
"But I'd need about ten stunt doubles."
According to The Sun newspaper, the film would be similar to 'The Expendables' franchise, which has brought together movie legends including Jason Statham, Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Dolph Lundgren and Bruce Willis for a series of action-packed blockbusters.
However, Sean, who retired in 2006, is not convinced by the idea and is currently refusing to engage in discussions for the movie.
Sir Roger explained: "But Sean balked at the idea as I don't think he wanted to be associated with Bond any more."
Meanwhile, Roger - who starred in seven Bond films, making him the longest-serving actor to appear in the iconic role - now generally steers clear of action movies in favour of "fairytales", and has recently released an app which tells bedtime stories.
He said: "I watched 'Scarface' recently and it's so violent. I suppose I'm a little old-fashioned but I like traditional fairytales. It's why I'm involved in this app."
