Jonathan Rhys Meyers cast as Joe Strummer

Jonathan Rhys Meyers will play Joe Strummer in a The Clash film.
The Irish actor has been cast as the punk frontman in the forthcoming film titled 'London Town', which will be set in 1970s London.
The drama will tell the tale of a teenager whose life changes dramatically when his estranged mother introduces him to the music of The Clash, who formed in 1976 before going on to release six studio albums.
The 37-year-old actor began shooting the movie in London at the end of last month under the director Derrick Borte and alonside co-stars including Dougray Scott, Natascha McElhone and Daniel Huttlestone.
ScreenDaily reports filming is expected to wrap by the end of July, with the film set to feature several of the band's classic tracks after producers secured the rights to use the songs.
The news comes as the troubled star attempts to get his career back on track following six stints in rehab in the last few years.
And the hunk - who got engaged to actress Mara Lane last December after seven months of dating - recently used his fiancée's Twitter account to issue a statement explaining his troubles.
He wrote: "Mara and I are thankful for your support and kindness during this time. I apologizes for having a minor relapse and hope that people don't think too badly of me.
"I am on the mend and thank well wishers and sorry for my dishevelled appearance as I was on my way home from a friends and had not changed.
"I feel I made a mistake and feel quite embarrassed but this was just a blip in my recovery otherwise I'm living a healthy life. (sic)"

Eva Mendes to star in Fast and Furious 8

Eva Mendes will return for the eighth 'Fast & Furious' film.
The 41-year-old actress has reportedly signed on for the eighth film in the franchise to play agent Monica Fuentes, having starred as her in the 2003 sequel '2 Fast 2 Furious' and had a post-credits cameo in 2011's 'Fast Five'.
A source close to the production told WeGotThisCovered.com that Eva's character will be teaming up with Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel), Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) and the rest of the gang to take on a new villain in New York.
Jason Statham is also set to reprise his 'Furious 7' role Deckard Shaw in 'Fast & Furious 8'.
The 47-year-old actor, who played the special forces assassin in the most-recent instalment of the money-spinning franchise, has confirmed he is set to reprise the part and has told fans to expect some "great stuff" in the new movie.
He shared: "The fanbase is very unique.
"They really do relate to the characters. They love these characters. They've followed them for years and years.
"We're already talking about doing another one, part eight, and I'm a newcomer. I just got invited to the party in this last one, so it's nice to know that I'll be doing another."

Nicholas Hoult and Taron Egerton battle it out to play Han Solo

Nicholas Hoult and Taron Egerton are battling it out to play Han Solo in the 'Star Wars' spin-off film.
It was announced earlier this week that the iconic sci-fi character would appear as the central figure in a new spin-off feature and the two British actors, both of whom are 25, are in the running for the coveted role in the Christopher Miller and Phil Lord-directed movie.
A source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "Everyone is very excited about the new Han Solo spin-off and film bosses are looking very carefully at Nicholas and Taron, they are top of their list."
Meanwhile, the directing duo - who helmed 'The Lego Movie' in 2014 - recently promised to "take risks" with the eagerly-awaited spin-off film.
They said: "This is the first film we've worked on that seems like a good idea to begin with. We promise to take risks, to give the audience a fresh experience, and we pledge ourselves to be faithful stewards of these characters who mean so much to us.
"This is a dream come true for us. And not the kind of dream where you're late for work and all your clothes are made of pudding, but the kind of dream where you get to make a film with some of the greatest characters ever, in a film franchise you've loved since before you can remember having dreams at all."

Peyton Reed likens Ant-Man to Bring It On

Peyton Reed thinks 'Ant-Man' and 'Bring It On' are similar movies.
The 51-year-old director, who helmed Marvel's new superhero movie and the 2000 teen comedy about cheerleading, thinks there are some striking parallels between the two films.
Speaking at the European premiere of 'Ant-Man' in London's Leicester Square last night (08.07.17), Peyton told BANG Showbiz: "You know, strangely there's a correlation. 'Ant-Man' is a very fast, kinetic movie and so was 'Bring It On'.
"Cheerleading requires a lot of choreography and it takes a lot of choreography to marshall ants. Even though they're fake, computer-generated ants, it takes a lot of co-ordination to figure it out."
Meanwhile, Peyton also acknowledged directing the new Marvel film was a thrill, because he's such an avid fan of comic books.
He said: "For me it's a dream come true - I mean that literally.
"As I kid, I read comic books and these characters really meant a lot to me as a kid. So to have a chance to direct a movie on this scale - it's a very small scale, but also a very big scale - was thrilling."

Michael Douglas: My kids think Ant-Man is my first movie

Michael Douglas' children think 'Ant-Man' is the first movie he's ever made.
The 70-year-old Hollywood legend - who has two children, Dylan, 14, and Carys, 12, with his actress wife Catherine Zeta-Jones - last night (08.07.15) attended the European premiere of Marvel's latest movie in which he stars as Dr Hank Pym and revealed he was glad he got to share the moment with his family.
Michael told BANG Showbiz: "It's great to share this with my kids and Catherine. As far as my kids are concerned, this is the first movie I've ever made. They're very excited to see it."
Meanwhile, Michael also claimed fans will be "surprised" by the humorous tone and the jaw-dropping finale of the movie, which sees fellow Hollywood star Paul Rudd assume the central role.
The actor - who also appears alongside Evangeline Lilly and Michael Pena - said: "I think fans will be surprised by the humour. It's a very funny picture. It's got a good comedic tone ... and the third act is marvellous. I sat there with my jaw open.
"I thought I knew the movie but I didn't know anything."

Marisa Tomei to appear in Spider-Man?

Marisa Tomei is in talks to play Spider-Man's Aunt May.
The 50-year-old American actress - whose previous film credits include 'My Cousin Vinny' and 'What Women Want' - is wanted by Marvel and Sony to star as the aunt who raised Peter Parker in their next installment of the 'Spider-Man' franchise.
The Oscar-winning star was made an offer late last week to appear alongside Tom Holland, who was recently handed the coveted role of the iconic superhero, Variety reports.
But while Tom is expected to make a cameo appearance in the eagerly-awaited 'Captain America: Civil War', it seems unlikely that Marisa - assuming she accepts the offer - will feature on screen so soon.
Last month, meanwhile, Kevin Feige, the President of Marvel Studios, admitted the new Spider-Man will be inspired by the work of director John Hughes, who helmed 'The Breakfast Club' and 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off'.
Kevin said: "It's the soap opera in high school, and those supporting characters, that are interesting.
"Just as we hadn't seen a heist movie in a long time, or a shrinking movie in a long time, we haven't seen a John Hughes movie in a long time.
"Not that we can make a John Hughes movie - only John Hughes could - but we're inspired by him, and merging that with the superhero genre in a way we haven't done before excites us."

Robert Pattinson: Acting isn’t as ‘cool’ as it used to be

Robert Pattinson thinks waitering is "cooler" than acting.
The 'Twilight' star believes things have changed for people since he first became an actor and says serving customers at a restaurant or bar has become more popular than acting.
He explained to Total Film: "It's changed a little bit now. Since I've become an actor, most people don't want to admit it. When I was just auditioning absolutely everyone was. It's crazy.
"But when you get to a certain point, no-one really wants to admit it anymore. People just want to say they're a waiter! That's way cooler! I'm not trying to be an actor, I just want to be waiter for the rest of my life."
Meanwhile, the 29-year-old actor previously claimed he cannot remember his life before he became famous.
He shared: "I had a bit of a struggle at first because my life really contracted and I couldn't do a lot of the stuff I used to be able to do.
"But once I got through that a year or two ago I just accepted my life is something else and now I can't really remember what it was like before, so it's much easier to deal with."

Jake Gyllenhaal doesn’t need control

Jake Gyllenhaal doesn't mind being "manipulated" by a director.
The 'Nightcrawler' star has insisted he has no problems being given ideas from the person at the top as he feels that is their job.
He said: "Well, that's the job of a director. They should be the best manipulator in the world. I love the idea of playing, knowing you are being manipulated. Yeah, that's the point. I love it.
"I'm looking for ideas. And a lot of the time, if you've thought it through so much, you're looking for someone to come at it from a different angle. I appreciate things, because what I wanna do is give them something they never expected, even if that means them pushing me."
The 34-year-old actor also opened up about what he learnt from the boxers he worked with for his role as a light heavyweight champion in 'Southpaw'.
He told Empire magazine: "A lot of people say that when you get into the ring, you need to be some sort of animal. And I think that's probably true, though I feel that technique and the scene of things is really what's at play, you know.
"But I don't know how to boil it down to one thing or a few things. You just pick up the molecules of the environment you're in, the people you're with, the energy they have."

Michael Douglas: I was a TV fiend as a child

Michael Douglas was a "television fiend" as a child.
The 70-year-old Hollywood star - who features in Marvel's new superhero movie 'Ant-Man' - has revealed he was never really a fan of comic books during his early years, but has always loved watching TV.
Speaking yesterday (07.07.15) at a press conference held at the Corinthia Hotel in London, Michael told BANG Showbiz: "I was on the cusp of the television audience, so I did not go into my room to read comics. I watched 'The Lone Ranger'... I watched 'Hopalong Cassidy'.
"I was a television - black and white - fiend growing up. That's how I remember most of that. Other than that the books [I read] were more like 'Treasure Island' and 'Tom Sawyer'."
Meanwhile, Michael also revealed how keen he was to become part of the Marvel Universe, as it's so distinct from other challenges he's faced.
He shared: "I was very excited about this opportunity when they came to me, because I'd never done anything in this milieu.
"My entire career is contemporary based - not by choice. I guess I'm just all about characters. So all of those that I've done in 40 years is contemporary.
"I've never done an effects movie, but I'm also a producer, so I was actually really curious about how this whole thing went together."
