Michael Douglas: I was a TV fiend as a child

Michael Douglas was a "television fiend" as a child.

The 70-year-old Hollywood star – who features in Marvel’s new superhero movie ‘Ant-Man’ – has revealed he was never really a fan of comic books during his early years, but has always loved watching TV.

Speaking yesterday (07.07.15) at a press conference held at the Corinthia Hotel in London, Michael told BANG Showbiz: "I was on the cusp of the television audience, so I did not go into my room to read comics. I watched ‘The Lone Ranger’… I watched ‘Hopalong Cassidy’.

"I was a television – black and white – fiend growing up. That’s how I remember most of that. Other than that the books [I read] were more like ‘Treasure Island’ and ‘Tom Sawyer’."

Meanwhile, Michael also revealed how keen he was to become part of the Marvel Universe, as it’s so distinct from other challenges he’s faced.

He shared: "I was very excited about this opportunity when they came to me, because I’d never done anything in this milieu.

"My entire career is contemporary based – not by choice. I guess I’m just all about characters. So all of those that I’ve done in 40 years is contemporary.

"I’ve never done an effects movie, but I’m also a producer, so I was actually really curious about how this whole thing went together."
