Marvel has a Captain Marvel director shortlist

Marvel Studios has compiled a shortlist of directors for the forthcoming ‘Captain Marvel’ movie.
Three female filmmakers dominate the list of favourites to helm Marvel’s first female led superhero movie.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Niki Caro, Lesli Linka Glatter and Lorene Scafaria are top contenders for the much coveted job.
New Zealander Caro is best known for her 2002 critically acclaimed film ‘The Whale Rider,’ American Glatter is famed for helming a number of ‘Homeland’ episodes and Scafaria’s credits include ‘Seeking a Friend at the End of the World’.
Although fans are still waiting for a decision on a director, ‘Room’ actress Brie Larson has already been confirmed to star as the title character and her alter ego Carol Danvers, a pilot whose DNA is fused with the alien race Kree after an explosion.
Marvel have been under pressure to be more inclusive within the genre as criticisms of a lack of diversity have been aimed at their projects, hence their insistence on finding a female director much like Warner Bros. Pictures did by hiring Patty Jenkins to make their forthcoming female fronted ‘Wonder Woman’ movie starring Gal Gadot as the DC Comics heroine.
They do have plenty of time to find the perfect fit though as ‘Captain Marvel’ isn’t due out until 8 March 2019.
