Jeremy Irons joins Red Sparrow

Jeremy Irons is set to join Jennifer Lawrence in the cast of ‘Red Sparrow’.
The 68-year-old Hollywood veteran will star alongside the ‘Hunger Games’ actress in the upcoming thriller, alongside the newly announced Matthias Schoenaerts and Joel Edgerton, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
‘Red Sparrow’ is based on an espionage novel written by Jason Matthews and follows the story of a Russian intelligence officer, who – against her will – must become a trained seductress called a Sparrow.
She must then use her newly-honed powers of temptation to operate against a young CIA agent who handles the agency’s most important Russian mole.
While Jennifer, 26, will be taking on the lead role of Dominika Egorova – who later becomes the titular Sparrow – all other roles have yet to be released.
Francis Lewis – who also helmed ‘The Hunger Games’ – is taking on directorial duties, using a script written by Justin Haythe.
Producers for the project have not been named, but are coming from Chernin Entertainment and Fox Film.
‘Red Sparrow’ is also yet to have a release date as the project is still in early development, but it is thought the feature will be finished in time for 2017.
Fans of Jeremy will be able to catch the star in the upcoming Batman franchise movie ‘The Batman’.
When asked if his character Alfred Pennyworth will feature more prominently in ‘Justice League’ than he did in ‘Batman v Superman’, he said: "Similar, but then, of course, Ben [Affleck]’s going to make a Batman film next summer.
"He promises me there’s going to be a bit more of Alfred in that. In the Justice League we have seven major lead characters and I’m the butler to one of them. It’s clear I will not be dominating that film."
