Jeremy Clarkson to front Who Wants to be a Millionaire series

Jeremy Clarkson will front a new series of ‘Who Wants to be a Millionaire?’.
The former ‘Top Gear’ host will return to the hot seat for a new 10-part series due to air on ITV in early 2019, and the 58-year-old presenter joked he is looking forward to spending time away from his ‘The Grand Tour’ co-hosts James May and Richard Hammond.
He said: "I absolutely loved hosting the anniversary shows and cannot wait to spend a few precious hours away from James May and Richard Hammond, making the new ones."
Jeremy fronted a revamped edition of the popular quiz show – previously hosted by Chris Tarrant from 1998 to 2014 – earlier this year to celebrate the programme’s 20th anniversary.
The format was changed slightly with a new Ask the Host lifeline added to the show – which requires contestants to answer 15 questions correctly to win £1 million – alongside originals Phone A Friend, Ask The Audience, and 50:50.
But Jeremy put paid to one contestant’s hopes of winning the jackpot when he wrongly advised her when she was on £8,000 and playing for £16,000, meaning she left with just £1,000.
Speaking to contestant Sarah Wilkinson afterwards, he said: "I have just cost you seven grand. There’s a horrible, horrible, cold atmosphere. I am so sorry Sarah, I really am."
This comes after Richard previously hinted Jeremy could be close to retiring, but also admitted ‘Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?’ is the "ideal" job for his pal.
Speaking in May, he said: "I think he is getting on and at some point we should him put him out to pasture, maybe in a lake.
"I think is a natural born quiz show host.
"It is a job he can do sitting down, which at his age is ideal.
"Annoyingly I think he is very good, largely because it is indoors."
