Jamie Cullum wants to write the next James Bond theme.
The 39-year-old jazz star has revealed he’s already written the song for Bond 25 "in his head" and would jump at the chance to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Sam Smith, Adele, Madonna and Dame Shirley Bassey by recording the soundtrack for the next instalment of the blockbuster spy thriller franchise, which sees Daniel Craig in the role of 007 one final time.
Speaking at the premiere of ‘King of Thieves’ at Leicester Square on Wednesday night (12.09.18), he exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "Who wouldn’t wanna write a Bond theme.
"Just from a writing point of view, even the performing aspect of it – I’d happily leave that to one of the bigger stars of today.
"Just to have a crack at writing it would be a big enough thrill yeah of course.
"My last originals album had a song on there that I kind of wrote and you know whenever you’re writing a song you have a template in your mind.
"Radiohead the story goes when they wrote ‘Paranoid Android’ they were thinking about ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ – and when I wrote the song on my last album called ‘Edge of Something’ I was thinking about it being a bond theme, so I’ve kind of already done it in my head."
The ‘High and Dry’ singer recorded a special cover of ‘The Man’ by US band The Killers for the star-studded British crime drama starring British screen icons Sir Michael Caine, Jim Broadbent, Sir Michael Gambon and Ray Winstone.
And Jamie divulged that it feels "like more than a dream" to be walking the carpet alongside the outstanding cast.
He said: "I got that magic phone call that said will you contribute a song for the final credits and I took one look at the cast and said yeah I’m in."
"It’s a thrill to just meet them all and be standing here feels like more than a dream really."
‘King of Thieves’ hits cinemas nationwide on September 14.
