Hollyoaks cast loved filming Maxine Minniver’s ‘living funeral’

The ‘Hollyoaks’ cast had "a lot of fun" filming Maxine Minniver’s living funeral.
In scenes set to air next week, Nikki Sanderson’s character – who suffers from Munchausen’s syndrome where she pretends to be ill – tells her new husband Damon Kinsella (Jacob Roberts) that her tumour has grown, and he decides to throw the unusual celebration to show her how much people care.
Nikki said: "It was a lot of fun, especially because the people that I were getting to work with at the living funeral I’ve worked with a lot and I absolutely adore. We had a really good crew as well so it was fun to film."
The living funeral – which features "lots of flowers and lights and lanterns – is as over the top as viewers would expect, and Sienna Blake (Anna Passey) is furious about the event.
She only agrees to keep quiet if Maxine uses the day to come clean about her illness.
Soap star Anna admitted despite the "serious" nature of the storyline, the atmosphere on set was much more lighthearted.
She added: "There are lots of flowers and lights and lanterns and there’s a big throne and a ginormous picture of Maxine, it’s very over the top and very ostentatious.
"This obviously makes Sienna even more fuming when she goes in and sees all of the effort that Damon has gone to…
"It was fun [to film]. As a story, even though it’s about a serious thing, it is quite fun to film because Maxine is being so extra and I’ve never heard of a living funeral before.
"It’s was quite funny when we walked in and saw the life-size picture of Nikki at the back!"
