Gavin and Stacey’s Joanna Page set for Supermarket Sweep special

‘Gavin and Stacey’ stars Joanna Page and Melanie Walters are being lined up for a ‘Supermarket Sweep’ celebrity special.

The 43-year-old actress (Stacey Shipman) and her on-screen mother Melanie (Gwen West) are both set to compete on the iconic game show when it returns to TV screens in the autumn.

Other big-name stars poised to feature on the ITV programme – which made its long-awaited comeback last year – include Scarlett Moffatt, Jacqueline Jossa, and Roman and Martin Kemp.

The celebrity special is being hosted by Ryan Clark-Neal and he’ll be joined by soap star Jennie McAlpine, who’ll be the voice behind the tannoy announcements.

Looking forward to the show, Jennie – who performed the same role when the programme returned in 2019 – said: "Getting to help out in Rylan’s supermarket last year was a dream. I had so much fun.

"It’s an absolute joy to be heading back for more dashing round the aisles and pick and mix!"

The upcoming special will also feature the likes of Wayne and Frankie Bridge, JLS singers J.B. Gill and Aston Merrygold, and Harry Redknapp and Paul Merson.

Rylan, 31, previously admitted that ‘Supermarket Sweep’ will "always" be Dale Winton’s show.

The presenter – who passed away in 2018 – hosted the daytime show from 1993 until 2001, and again in 2007.

Speaking about the former host, Rylan explained: "This is his show and it will always be his show, but if I can fill even an inch of his shoes then I’ll be very happy.

"When people watch, they’ll feel Dale’s still a part of it because of the terminology we’re using.

"A contestant said ‘£50 Dale’ the other day, which was the biggest compliment of my career."
