Gavin and Stacey special ‘has been watched for 80 years’

The ‘Gavin & Stacey’ Christmas special has already been watched for the equivalent of more than eight decades on the BBC iPlayer.
The much-discussed special aired on Christmas Day and has proven to be a huge success in the UK, attracting as many as 11.6 million viewers on the day.
Between Christmas Day and December 29, TV viewers spent a total of 29,495 days, or 707,889 hours watching the special, according to the Overnights TV ratings system, which also confirmed that it has been easily the most-watched programme on-demand everyday since Christmas.
The popularity of the on-demand viewership peaked on Boxing Day, when it was watched for 295,621 hours on the BBC iPlayer, The Sun newspaper reports.
Meanwhile, Larry Lamb recently called for ‘Gavin & Stacey’ to be turned into a film.
The 72-year-old actor plays Mick Shipman in the sitcom and following the recent Christmas special, Larry expressed an interest in making a movie based on the TV series.
Larry – who appears on the show alongside James Corden and Ruth Jones – said: "To me I always think the logical thing to do would be to make a film of it.
"I think the audience in Britain is so ready for it that they would go to the ends of the Earth to go and see a movie of it. I mean, imagine those characters? It’s so much larger than life now, it’s a national treasure."
