Finding Dory becomes highest-grossing animated debut ever

‘Finding Dory’ has become the highest-grossing debut animated movie of all time.
The motion picture, a follow up to 2003’s ‘Finding Nemo’, earned more than $136.2 million at the weekend box office following its release in the US.
According to Deadline, the film beat the record previously held by ‘Shrek the Third’ with $121.6 million.
‘Finding Dory’ narrowly missed out on breaking another record, managing the second best opening in June after last year’s Jurassic World grossed $208.8 million.
The computer-animated comedy movie features talk show host Ellen DeGeneres lending her voice to the role of the titular character, a forgetful blue tang fish who attempts to be reunited with her parents.
Hayden Rolence voices clownfish Nemo, who was played Alexander Gould in the previous film, and other stars include Albert Brooks (Marlin), Diane Keaton (Jenny), Eugene Levy (Charlie), Idris Elba (Fluke), Dominic West (Rudder) and Willem Dafoe as Gill.
‘Finding Dory’ is the year’s second-biggest opening after ‘Captain America: Civil War’ which amassed $179 million – the fifth highest of all time – following its April release.
Pixar’s ‘Finding Nemo’ once held the highest-grossing U-certificate film of all time title but was beaten by the studio’s ‘Toy Story 3’.
‘Finding Dory’ is released in the UK on July 29, 2016.
