Elle Fanning: Girls drive themselves crazy to be perfect

Elle Fanning thinks girls "go crazy" trying to be "perfect".
The blonde beauty – who turned 18 in April – says girls her age are trying too hard to be beautiful and faultless but are destroying themselves in the process.
She exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "People’s obsession with beauty and perfection, it can really destroy you and wanting perfection it’s like ‘But what is perfection?’ it doesn’t exist. Perfect doesn’t exist, so you drive yourself crazy wanting it."
The younger sister to Hollywood actress Dakota Fanning nabbed a role in horror movie ‘The Neon Demon’ as a teenage model who is targeted by her jealous peers.
And Elle thinks the storyline derives from real experiences of how girls can treat each other – especially online.
Asked if girls can be that "mean" in real life, she added: "A little bit yeah! I think so, I mean especially on social media and where you can hide behind your phones and be kinda catty, so yeah it does."
In the movie, Elle’s character Jesse moves from a small town to Los Angeles, where she is viciously turned on after she takes the fashion world by storm.
The star said she related to the character because she also moved from a small town to Los Angeles and she knew what it felt like to be the "fresh meat on the scene".
At the premiere of the film in London’s Curzon Mayfair, she explained: "Being the fresh meat on the scene, I think I can understand that aspect of her… I mean it was a little different for me but at the same time, very not different, because I played a 16 year old girl, who kind of comes from a small town to the big city, which is what I did. I’m from Georgia and I moved to LA and started doing film so we’re similar in a way but we didn’t let that world devour us, I mean my character goes to a much darker place than I have."
