EastEnders’ Adam Woodyatt and Letitia Dean recall being sent home for ‘giggling’

Adam Woodyatt and Letitia Dean once got told off and sent home from ‘EastEnders’ filming for laughing too much.

The Albert Square veterans – who both joined the BBC soap’s cast when it launched back in 1985 – admitted they got themselves in a bit of bother on set early in their careers.

Speaking to Stacey Dooley on spin-off show ‘Secrets From The Square’, Adam (Ian Beale) said: "A combination of Tish, Sue [Tully, who played Michelle Fowler], me and Paul Medford [who played Kelvin Carpenter], we got sent home one Friday afternoon, and got told to come back in the following day, because we just got the giggles.

"We got properly, properly told off and sent home."

Sharon Watts actress Letitia, 52, admitted the team ran a tight ship, and things were "very strict" to keep the younger stars in line.

She added: "It was very strict. We weren’t allowed to have any egos as kids."

Adam, 51, admitted co-creator Julia Smith "wouldn’t have it", while he also revealed the boss wouldn’t even let girls wear makeup.

Letitia explained: "If you’d snuck it on, she’d come down with a flannel and take if off. A flannel! A word we don’t use often, isn’t it?"

The actress recently admitted she cannot wait to return to the set and get stuck into the "challenge" of filming in different circumstances, due to social distancing guidelines.

She said: "It’s going to be a different way of working.

"I try and think of it as a positive, though, and as a challenge. It’s something new, and sometimes it’s good to work outside of your normal box, if you like, so I’m looking forward to it.

"I’m sure everyone’s going to be a bit anxious as, once you take your foot off the pedal you question everything.

"Even when you come back from holiday you think, ‘Ooh, can I still do it?’ But we have some fabulous new scripts, so that’s exciting."
