Belgravia ‘set for 2nd series’

‘Belgravia’ is set to return for a second series.
The period drama – penned by ‘Downton Abbey’ writer Julian Fellowes – proved to be a hit with viewers in the UK and the US, and ITV bosses are looking for a way to revive the show after Julian originally wrote the story as a one-off drama.
A TV insider told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre TV column: "’Belgravia’ got respectable viewing figures when it aired in the UK. But getting a good response in the US is almost as important.
"That is why all those involved with the show are secretly trying to think of a way to create a sequel."
The series set in 19th century London ran for six episodes and starred the likes of Alice Eve, Tamsin Greig, Philip Glenister and Dame Harriet Walter.
However, if there is a new series then it looks as though the current crop of characters will not return, as Julian previously teased another season before the first had aired.
He said: "This is a completed story. We will have to see if anyone wants more.
"We would need a new story with new characters."
Philip previously said his ‘Belgravia’ character is based on ‘Only Fools and Horses’ wheeler dealer Derek ‘Del Boy’ Trotter.
The 57-year-old actor played James Trenchard in the ITV drama, and he said his alter ego is a "cross between Donald Trump and Del Boy" and a "self-made man" trying to elevate himself in society.
He explained: "He’s a cross between Donald Trump and Del Boy. He’ll go to the opening of an envelope and sometimes makes a total fool of himself. What I love is his ambition.
"Without Victorians like James Trenchard, we wouldn’t have a lot of the incredible infrastructure that we have today and take for granted.
"He’s the son of a market trader, who’s worked his way up, so he’s a self-made man. One of the themes of ‘Belgravia’ is the beginnings of the nouveau riche and he fits into that bracket."
