Bear Grylls unveils 100 free activities to help kids enjoy ‘great indoors’

Bear Grylls has unveiled 100 free activities to encourage kids to make the most of isolation.
The adventurer and survival instructor – who is also chief scout – has revealed a new initiative called ‘The Great Indoors’ to help families adjusting to life amid the coronavirus pandemic.
He said: "Without a plan, a week stuck at home for a family can be as tough as a week in the mountains.
"Whether you’re climbing Everest, or just trying to make it through to bedtime, a little planning and positive spirit will make all the difference."
Schools across the UK are closing indefinitely on Friday (20.03.20), which has prompted the initiative – although the Department of Education has revealed a list of "key workers" deemed "essential" to responding to the COVID-19 outbreak, and their children will be cared for at school where necessary.
The 45-year-old star hopes the activities will help kids at home to channel their "huge energy is a positive way", with the Scouts activities all goal-based, focused on things like problem-solving or communication skills.
As well as the online resources, families will also be able to access ‘how to’ sessions on Facebook Live with Scout ambassadors like Helen Glover and Steve Backshall teaching the activities.
Grylls added: "They’ll help families stay busy, focused and cheerful. It’s not often you’ll find me talking about the great indoors – but this is the exception.
"Try them out, look after each other, and most of all, make this challenging time a safe and positive time – it’s all state of mind."
While the collection is suitable for one or two children, the programme can be adapted to cater for three or more if necessary.
