Robbie Williams’ new album features ‘massive guitars’ and ‘pop hits’

Robbie Williams’ new album will feature “massive guitars” and “pop hits”.

The former Take That star has confirmed he’s been working on a new record which features a track called ‘Rocket’ – a collaboration with Black Sabbath stars Tony Iommi and Glen Hughes – which the singer has branded his “favourite”.

In an interview with NME, Robbie said of the project: “I wanted to make the album that I’d make if I’d left Take That now, knowing what I know.

“This particular song [‘Rocket’] encapsulates that perfectly. Unfortunately and fortunately for me, pop songs turned up along the way, too. I’m like: ‘Ah, f*** – a hit!’”

He added of the song: “This [track] is massive guitars, as you can imagine. It’s adrenaline-filled and balls-to-the-wall. That one in particular is my favourite song off my new album – that I’ve just announced is happening!”

When asked for more details about the album, Robbie joked he would have to wait and see how well his new movie ‘Better Man’ does in cinemas first.

He said: “I dunno – let’s see how well the film does … “

Robbie’s drummer and musical director Karl Brazil recently confirmed news of the Tony Iommi collaboration during an appearance on the ‘Percussion Discussion’ podcast – and revealed the new album is mostly guitar-based.

He said: “[Robbie has] got an album to follow that we’ve been working on. He’s working with various people, but I’ve been fortunate enough to do some songs with him.

“We’ve done a track called ‘Rocket’ with Tony, which is very random. It’s great. It’s a rocker and it’s really, really cool. Right up my street.”

Karl also confirmed Robbie has recorded another track with Supergrass frontman Gaz Coombes.

He added: “There’s some great collaborations on this record. Gaz Coombes is on there. It’s predominantly a guitar record.

“It’s a bit of a throwback to his old sort of 90s sound but the mixed with a bit of modern-day pop as well. Let’s face it, he can do what he wants, can’t he?”
