Ryan Adams cancels European tour amid illness after admitting he’s ‘broke’

Ryan Adams has cancelled his upcoming European tour due to sickness, with promoters confirming the dates have been pulled just days after the singer admitted he’s “broke” and struggling behind the scenes.

In a statement shared by the tour promoter, fans were told the 51-year-old musician is “doing OK” and is instead focusing on finishing his album trilogy.

It read: “Due to circumstances beyond our control, the upcoming Ryan Adams European Tour has been cancelled. We apologize to all those who bought tickets and were excited for these shows. Refunds will be processed automatically… Ryan is doing ok and working hard to finish the new album trilogy. New music on the way.”

Ryan reposted the announcement and added his own update: “Tough times. Been sick. Fall tour cancelled.”

The news landed shortly after the Gold singer revealed he’s been selling off huge amounts of his music equipment to stay afloat financially and keep funding his albums. In a candid message to fans, the controversial singer said he was “broke and sick and tired and defeated,” explaining that parting with his treasured gear was the only way to survive and continue making music.

He wrote: “I appreciate anybody who can give these treasured things a new life.

“I’m proud that I did this. That I remain transparent. This business is vile and full of snakes. But I’m proud to call it and man up to this. I’ll keep making records as long as I can afford to.”

He ended on an emotional note, telling fans he planned to sit in the sunlight with his cats and cry.

He said:  “I’m not sure how many more times I can hit this wall. When is it enough?”

Back in 2019, Ryan was the subject of an expose by the New York Times newspaper, with a number of women claiming he had been controlling and emotionally abusive.

Ryan later issued a public apology but never acknowledged his accusers personally.

He said: “In my effort to be a better man, I have fought to get sober, but this time I’m doing it with professional help. Sobriety is a priority in my life, and so is my mental health. These, as I’m learning, go hand in hand. “There are no words to express how bad I feel about the ways I’ve mistreated people throughout my life and career. All I can say is that I’m sorry. It’s that simple. This period of isolation and reflection made me see that I needed to make significant changes in my life.”

He publicly appealed for record labels to give him a second chance after the scandal, admitting he was just “months” away from losing his house, recording studio, and indie record label.
