Kevin Whately has hinted he may be set to retire from his role in 'Lewis'.
The 63-year-old actor has starred as Robert 'Robbie' Lewis for 27 years, first taking on the role in 'Inspector Morse' before becoming the titular character in the spin-off, but he's now revealed he's thinking of retiring.
Speaking about the upcoming eighth series, he said: "There might be more Lewis after this series but there won't be a lot more.
"Not with Lewis himself. Who knows what the others will do but I think I'm coming to the end of the road.
"There may be on more series, possibly, we'll see."
However, Kevin - along with co-star Laurence Fox (James Hathaway) - has taken a break from the show in the past but confessed he missed working.
But he admits if he wasn't in the series himself, he wouldn't want to watch it.
He told The Sun newspaper: "From what people tell me, I think 'Lewis' is successful because it's familiar.
"Viewers are quite happy with certain people in the corner of their rooms because they've been there for years.
"But the appetite for detective shows just staggers me -it's bottomless.
"Detective shows are not my favourite. I almost certainly wouldn't watch 'Lewis' if I wasn't in it."

Mel B insists Louis Walsh and Cheryl Fernandez-Versini still don't get along.
The former Spice Girls star says she has to sit in between her fellow 'X Factor' mentors on the judging panel to stop them from constantly bickering.
Louis attempted to deny the feud - which has seen the pair clash in the past - while appearing on panel show 'Celebrity Juice'.
Quizzed by host Keith Lemon on whether he likes the 'Only Human' singer now, Louis said: "We get on really well."
However, Mel was quick to interrupt the music manager, assuring viewers that they still have their differences.
She exclaimed: "No you don't. I sit in between them!"
Keith - whose real name is Leigh Francis - then read out a comment Cheryl made about Louis during a past interview.
It read: "We don't really like each other, I don't think we ever did. We'll work together but there's no love lost."
Attempting to downplay their issues, Louis added of Cheryl - who has returned to the ITV talent show this year after a three year break: "I like her more this year."

Clive Owen will play a cocaine-addicted surgeon in his new TV series.
The 50-year-old actor stars as John Thackery - a doctor with a penchant for narcotics and prostitutes - in new US drama 'The Knick', set in 1900s New York.
The series follows the life of the medic at the Big Apple's Knickerbocker Hospital, who, without the use of modern technology and pain relief is forced to perform "gruesome" operations on a daily basis.
Clive told the Daily Star newspaper: "Every single operation is exactly how it would have been done at the time. And the breakthroughs they make in the show are really what was going on.
"There was a huge amount of failure but that was the world they were living in."
He added: "Cocaine was legal at the time. They thought it was the new wonder drug and people used it widely. But then people started getting addicted."
The show has already been in a hit in the US and the 'Sin City' star is keen to continue his success across the pond after it was re-commissioned for a second series.
'The Knick' will air on Sky Atlantic this Thursday.

Blonde Electra escaped their father's religious cult to appear on 'The X Factor'.
Ruby and Jazzy King have confessed their Catholic missionary parents used to belong to the notorious Children of God cult before leaving and setting up their own, more restrictive sect, of which they were forced to be members until they left home aged just 12 and 15-years-old.
Ruby, 22, explained: "Our parents left, thank God, because I don't know where we would be at this point.
"But our dad created his own cult. It was very restrictive - we were very isolated."
24-year-old Jazzy added: "Our dad thinks he's God's prophet, he thinks he was sent by God to this world to preach. He is bat-snap crazy."
However, the American sisters - who are set to perform in the 'X Factor' live shows as one of Louis Walsh's groups category - managed to escape by becoming night club singers, despite their father referring to non-religious music as "the devil".
Jazzy continued to The Sun newspaper: "We moved out when we were 12 and 15 because we met this guy who owned a club and was looking for singers. We were, like, 'F**k, yeah!'
"But our parents believe that, once you leave, you're going to hell. We have hardly any contact with them - though our dad writes us hate mails."
Ruby added: "He thinks we're sinners and are going to go to hell for doing 'The X Factor'. One of the email subjects was, 'Repent'."

Dermot O'Leary didn't have many girlfriends growing up.
'The X Factor' host says that rather than spending his teenage years trying to charm girls, he was more interested in watching football and "having fun".
Dermot, 41, told The Sun newspaper: "Mates of mine who had girlfriends when I was growing up always seemed to be going to their parents or grandparents for dinner.
"That sort of thing terrified me."
The presenter, who first rose to prominence on Channel 4 show T4, admits the lack of attention he received from girls in his younger days has impacted his emotional wellbeing.
He explained: "I didn't grow up as a good-looking guy. Girls weren't interested in me at school.
"So I probably just didn't find the right person. And that has made me emotionally stunted."
The presenter, who married TV producer Dee Koppang in 2012, also admits he'd make a rubbish contestant on 'The X Factor'.
He said: "I'd be one of those contestants people think shouldn't have gone through because they're too happy. I'm a dust-yourself-down kind of guy.
"My dad is like that. He's from that post-war generation where you don't talk about (miserable) stuff, you just get on with it."

The 'X Factor' contestants are banned from having relationships with one another.
The finalists are all sharing a house in London together and though a number of hopefuls have confessed to having crushes on one another, they aren't allowed to take things further.
Jake Sims from the still-unnamed eight-piece boy band said: "You haven't read our house rules - no intercourse."
His bandmate James Graham added: "None of that stuff and no kissing of any kind."
Reese Bibby added: "No touching! We live in a bubble."
Almost all of the band admit to having their eyes on one of the other contestants.
James said: "I fancy Blonde Electra."
Barclay added: "He doesn't shut up about them. He fancies all the girls in the house."
Reece proclaimed: "Parisa from Only the Young is fit."
Jake added: "I can say that I do fancy someone but it may have to be kept confidential... I do think Betsy from Only the Young is absolutely beautiful."
However, Casey Johnson insisted he is trying to stay professional.
He told OK! magazine: "I'm here for the competition, not for the girls."

Hugh Bonneville has likened 'Game of Thrones' to a modern-day Shakespearean play.
The 'Downton Abbey' actor has compared the works of famed playwright William Shakespeare to the popular HBO show, 'Game of Thrones', which is based on the novels by George R. R. Martin, claiming they have the same levels of "lust" and "violence".
He said: "Shakespeare gives us just as much politicking, intrigue, lust and violence as you'll find in any episode of 'Game of Thrones'.
The 50-year-old star also slammed schools for making the playwright appear boring to students.
He told Radio Times magazine: "The classroom can all too often be the death of [Shakespeare]. I know I'm not the only one who had to read aloud, line by line round the class, until Sir threw his chalk at someone for nodding off.
"Treating these plays like holy scripture, to be revered, can deter the newcomer for ever."

Former 'The Only Way Is Essex' star Charlie King has confirmed he is gay.
The 29-year-old star - who previously dated co-star Gemma Collins - has opened up about his sexuality and confessed he's finally admitting his feelings to help other people feel more comfortable talking about it.
Speaking to Phillip Schofield and Amanda Holden on 'This Morning', Charlie said: "Our stories will help people, there is a way out.
"You are not alone. I want to be a positive person and tell people, 'You can do this'."
Charlie - who insisted he wasn't gay in a conversation with Ricky Rayment on TOWIE, saying "I am categorically telling you that I am not a gay man" - went on to reveal the moment he finally came to terms with his sexuality arrived when he was in a relationship with a woman.
He explained: "I had a girlfriend, she was the first person I spoke to and told.
"It was a proper relationship but I was very aware when I was seeing her that things weren't quite right. If something doesn't click, it doesn't click.
"I feel so positive about this."
Ex-girlfriend Gemma has been less than supportive about his admission, however, taking to Twitter to boast she always knew she was right about him.
She wrote: "I always SEE what other people don't and speak the TRUTH x (sic)"

Dermot O'Leary sympathises with 'X Factor' acts for having to "rigorously butcher" songs down to two-and-a-half minutes.
The talent show's presenter admits one thing the programme has taught him about music is how tough it is for the contestants to chop a song down, but insists anyone can spot a talented singer no matter what age they are.
Speaking to Spotify to promote his new memoir, 'The Soundtrack to my Life', he said: "It's taught me that it's very hard to cut a song down to two-and-a-half minutes - there just aren't that many songs that can stand that rigorous sort of butchery. But it's also taught me how universal it is.
"It doesn't matter if you're a 16-year-old NME reader or someone's granny watching 'The X Factor', a great song and a great performer will always affect you."
As well as listening to the dulcet tones of several 'X Factor' contestants while he is at work, the 41-year-old TV presenter admits he feels happy when he hears his wife Dee laughing and their cats purring.
When asked what his favourite noise is, he added: "I would say two things. My wife laughing is, of course, number one, but we have two cats. One is partially blind and when she meows and purrs in a way that signals she's content it makes me content too. Oh, and a woodpigeon on a sunny day!"
To accompany his book's launch, Dermot has put together his 'Soundtrack to my Life' Spotify playlist, featuring tracks which have played an important part in his life; such as 'Macarena' by Los Del Rio, 'Rehab' by Amy Winehouse, and One Direction's 'Little Things'.
