Jeremy Sheffield kept trying to make Nikki Sanderson laugh when they filmed her labour scenes.
The 'Hollyoaks' actress - who plays Maxine Minniver - admits it was "frightening" trying to convincingly depict giving birth on screen but her co-star, who portrays demon headmaster Patrick Blake, did his best to lighten the mood.
She said: "It was frightening. It was amazing and fun to do, especially with Jeremy - though he thought it was funny to laugh in my face all the way through."
And Nikki - whose alter ego goes into labour in the midst of the train crash that rocks Hollyoaks village next week - admits she was relieved to have been praised for her work by one of the show's advisers.
Speaking at a screening of the 'Hollyoaks: End of the Line' train crash episodes in London this morning (07.11.14), she said: "Having never given birth myself, it's one of those things where you hope people will look and go, 'It's kind of like that' ... I was just glad there was no blood and guts but could just do it with my facial expressions.
"The midwife on set actually said she thought I'd had kids."
The 30-year-old actress loves playing Maxine because her storylines have been so diverse during her two years on the show.
She said: "I love the diversity of Maxine, she came in as quite a comedic character then we've had the domestic violence story ... She goes through so many emotions, it's like playing 10 different characters in one woman."
'Hollyoaks' airs weeknights on Channel 4 at 6.30pm, with first look episodes on E4 weeknights at 7pm.

Ben Haenow meets his girlfriend for lovemaking sessions after 'The X Factor' live show.
The 29-year-old performer goes without sex from Monday to Friday, but escapes the bubble of the programme at the weekend, when he rents a hotel on Saturday evenings so he and his girlfriend Jessica can get intimate.
Ben - who's in Simon Cowell's Over 25s category - explained: "I get to spend the night with her in a hotel. We go to The Hilton - where there are cheaper rooms than the Holiday Inn."
The singer also admitted to missing his family, telling the Metro newspaper: "I only get a limited time to pop back and see them.
"My mum works six days a week and I only see her for about 45 minutes and there is always a camera crew there when I do it. So we don't get to actually talk. But I'll get through it."
Fellow contestant Jay James Picton, 31, has revealed he's got an embarrassing tattoo, which he got while drunk on holiday.
Jay explained: "I got a tattoo on my a**e which says 'your name', which I got when I was p***ed in Magaluf."
The singer - who's married to glamour model Victoria and has a 13-month-old daughter, Nova - added: "Me and my mate thought it would be good for chatting up girls. It worked a couple of times. But most of the time it didn't."

Vicky Pattison has hinted she could be set to appear on 'I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here!'
The brunette beauty recently revealed she'd decided to quit MTV reality show 'Geordie Shore' after three years and nine series because she felt she'd outgrown it, however, she insisted she wouldn't be disappearing from TV screens and has now posted a message on Instagram hinting at her next venture.
Vicky took to her Twitter account to write, "Get me to Australia.... NOW!!!!!!", alongside a link to her Instagram account and an image of an inspirational quote which reads, "I need an adventure away from all of this bulls**t."
Rumours of her plans to appear on the ITV reality series - which sees 12 celebrities flown to Australia to survive in the jungle - first emerged when she made her 'Geordie Shore' announcement last month, but she previously admitted to being a fan of the show last year.
During a Twitter Q&A session, she wrote: "I would love to do a big reality tv show.. I'm a celeb would definitely be my first choice!!!! (sic)"
Other celebrities said to be in talks to appear on the show include TV presenter Melanie Sykes, former 'The X Factor' contestant Jake Quickenden and 'The Only Way Is Essex' star Gemma Collins - whom Vicky has expressed her dislike for in the past.
Explaining how the TOWIE favourite had ignored her at an invent, Vicky said previously: "I've never seen her since, thank God. I don't think we'd have much to talk about. She doesn't seem to be my cup of tea at all..."
Meanwhile, the latest names to be linked to the show - which is presented by Ant & Dec - include 'Desperate Housewives' actress Teri Hatcher and former Oasis rocker Liam Gallagher.

Tessa Peake-Jones feels like she only sees her former 'Only Fools and Horses' co-stars at funerals.
The 57-year-old actress - who played Raquel Welch on the popular sitcom - admitted that she feels sad about not keeping in contact with old cast members following the deaths of Roger Lloyd-Pack (Trigger), Roy Heather (Sid) and the show's writer, John Sullivan.
Tessa said: "As a team we were all incredibly close. We were like a big family. But we have been to a lot of funerals recently and another one hits the dust with Roy."
The actress revealed that she was particularly "shocked" by the passing of Roger, who died aged 69 after suffering from pancreatic cancer and the death of John, who passed away after battling pneumonia aged 64.
She told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "I was quite shocked about Roger because I didn't realise he was ill. And John Sullivan was supposedly getting better.
"You think, 'Oh God, you weren't prepared for these.
"John and Roger were only in their 60s so it's a bit miserable. You don't know what is around the corner, so now I live for everyday."
The last episode of 'Only Fools and Horses' - which also starred Sir David Jason as Del Boy and Nicholas Lyndhurst as Rodney - was filmed in 2003 but Tessa appeared to rule out the possibility of a reunion.
She explained: "A reunion would be brilliant and if John had stayed alive we would have got back together. But it's difficult now. He was the genius behind it. I don't know who else would take it on."

Jamie Dornan was "shaking" when he was told what would happen in the second series of 'The Fall'.
The 32-year-old hunk, who plays murderer Paul Spector in the BBC crime drama, has suggested fans can expect to see his character make some mistakes in the upcoming set of episodes and the plot developments made him very excited.
The actor explained: "When I got the breakdown for the second series, I was shaking,
"The scale of it has grown, there are twists and turns and there are moments which I can't say too much about."
The first series of the show was first broadcast in 2013, and showed Jamie playing a serial killer being investigated by Detective Superintendent Stella Gibson, played by 'The X-Files' actress Gillian Anderson.
However, Jamie - who will hit cinema screens in February 2015 as Christian Grey in the movie adaptation of the best-selling erotic novel 'Fifty Shades of Grey' - has suggested the criminal mastermind's plans may start to crumble in the new series, when it begins on November 13, and make for an interesting relationship between Paul and Stella.
He explained: "Cracks start to appear and Stella gets a bit of a foot in. That's what makes it great television, and it's probably explored slightly more in the second series. It's what I love the most about him."
The model - who is married to singer-songwriter Amelia Warner - added that he thinks people are drawn to the character because they also see his vulnerable side.
Talking to Shortlist magazine, he said: "Obviously what he's doing is horrific - pure evil - but we get to see a human, relatable side to him at work and with his family which makes it more chilling to watch.
"You are literally thinking that it could be your next door neighbour. And I've had people say, 'He's a sick bastard, but I kind of wanted him to get away with it.' "

Gino D'Acampo thinks Melanie Sykes will be "great" in 'I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!'
The 44-year-old television presenter is rumoured to be heading to Australia to take part in the ITV show, and her friend Gino believes his "TV wife," who he works with on 'Let's Do Lunch with Gino and Mel', will be one to watch in the jungle.
The 38-year-old chef told BANG Showbiz: "Knowing Melanie she will go for anything, which is great."
The father-of-three won the ninth series of the reality programme in 2009 and said he believes the former 'Today with Des and Mel' host will be excellent at swapping the culinary delights of his kitchen for stomach-churning Bushtucker Trials.
The 'Celebrity Juice' team captain said: "She's a very good sport so she will be up for all of that".
The mother-of-two is just one of many famous faces rumoured to be heading down under to take part in the show, alongside 'The Only Way is Essex' star Gemma Collins and professional diver and 'Splash!' host Tom Daley.
Commenting on how he will cope while his friend is away, he added that they sometimes get bored with each other on the set of their daytime show, so being separated for a while could be beneficial for their friendship.
He joked: "When we are filming we get fed up of each other!"
Gino was speaking ahead of his appearance at the Ideal Home Show at Christmas (Idealhomeshowchristmas.co.uk) which takes place at Earls Court in London from November 19 to 23 and at Event City in Manchester between November 14 to 16.
