'The Missing' is to return for a second series.
The BBC drama has been a big success with viewers, attracting an audience of eight million people, and following the gripping finale to the first series, in which the mystery of who abducted Oliver Hughes was revealed, fans will already be looking forward to what the next season has in store.
A message at the end of the finale said: "To lose somebody can destroy a person. But to find them again, when so much has passed. Well. Sometimes, that can be worse."
Meanwhile, the writers of the show, brothers Jack and Harry Williams, have revealed they're looking forward to delivering something that's even more "ambitious" with the new series.
They said: "We always knew the story of Oliver Hughes would have an ending. But in writing the first series we found there were many themes and issues we didn't have the chance to explore.
"The response to the show has been fantastic, and we're thrilled to be telling a brand new story which we hope will surprise and intrigue and tell an even bigger tale on an even more ambitious canvas."
Jack Williams added: "All we can say is that this series will have closure. We don't want people to leave feeling frustrated.
"You feel a responsibility. I hope people do enjoy the ending. I think it's very true to the very first hour that you see."
James Nesbitt starred as Oliver's dad Tony Hughes in the first series, however the second season will be led by different characters and will also be set in a new location.
It's not confirmed yet whether the 49-year-old actor will return for the new series, which will focus on the disappearance of an adult rather than a child.

Craig Revel Horwood wants to know what Scott Mills is like in bed.
The 'Strictly Come Dancing' judge was stunned by the BBC Radio 1 DJ's lack of rhythm on the show and claims he is one of the only gay men he has met who "has no rhythm".
Asked if he thinks Scott would ever have been able to dance, he said: "No, I'm going to prove that when he comes on the tour next year.
"I can't believe a gay man has no rhythm - I found it really surprising and it made me wonder what he's like in bed.
"Although I did love his crab dance and Uncle Fester. So I think we will call him a character dancer."
Craig has been a judge on the show for 10 years and his favourite ever contestant is former cricket star and series four winner Mark Ramprakash.
He told OK! magazine: "I enjoyed the rise of Mark Ramprakash. He had absolutely no dance training whatsoever.
"He didn't know himself that he could dance. Something happened on a Friday and it came together on the live show. He made it OK for men to dance. He still dances today."

Ferne McCann and Charlie Sims' relationship is "better" now he has quit 'The Only Way is Essex'.
The couple have endured turbulent times and split on several occasions since joining the show last year and though they don't get to spend as much time together now Charlie has stepped out of the spotlight, his girlfriend insists they are getting on better than ever.
She said: "It's a little harder for me and Charlie to see each other as we're not filming together any more, but his break from 'TOWIE' has made our relationship better.
"Putting your romance on TV is such a stress.
"It's actually been easier for our relationship not being on the show as we don't have the pressure of a romance in the spotlight."
Ferne, 24, also admitted she worried about her own future on the programme when Charlie announced his intention to leave.
She explained to Closer magazine: "I did worry what it meant for me and the show because we came on it together. Hopefully viewers think I'm good enough on my own."

Emma Willis has teased a "stellar cast" for the upcoming series of 'Celebrity Big Brother'.
The 38-year-old presenter has confessed she's seen a provisional list of the famous faces set to appear on the Channel 5 show in the new year and claims it won't disappoint fans.
She said: "I normally stay very blind to it all right up until the last minute but this year I've actually seen part of a list very early.
"This is going to be one of the best ever series of the show. I have such high hopes for the series - that's how good I think it's going to be. You won't not recognise anybody if it stays like this. This year seems like a proper stellar cast and that's always great to watch."
The brunette beauty admitted she loves seeing Hollywood stars enter the reality series house as they have no idea what they're letting themselves in for and revealed her dream housemates would be Paul O'Grady, Lindsay Lohan and Tom Cruise.
She told London's Evening Standard newspaper: "They're [American stars] always great. On the whole, they don't have a clue about what's going to happen to them. They're quite naïve to it all and they think they're going to take part in some TV show, get their cheque and go."
Emma also let slip what the theme will be for the upcoming series, adding: "I've seen the mood boards and the new eye for the series. It's got me very excited. I'd describe it as a dark fairytale theme."

Zoe Ball "kept drooling" over Thom Evans on 'Strictly Come Dancing'.
The 44-year-old presenter, who hosts spin-off show 'It Takes Two', admits she was so nervous around the hunky former rugby player and model that she found herself lost for words.
She said: "I couldn't speak to Thom Evans at first - he was so handsome, I just kept drooling. I eventually got over it and could look him in the eye."
The blonde beauty replaced Claudia Winkleman on the main show when her daughter was injured in a Halloween accident and admits it was a daunting experience but that Claudia's co-host and Strictly veteran Tess Daly helped her through it.
She explained: "It was terrifying waiting to go on and I was worried about falling down the stairs. It was hard standing in for Claudia as she's such a big character, but Tess and everyone looked after me."
Meanwhile, Zoe is thrilled with the progress contestants such as Blue singer Simon Webbe and former 'The Only Way Is Essex' star Mark Wright have made.
She told heat magazine: "Everybody loves celebrities who show a massive improvement, like Simon and Mark. I've really thought, 'Wow', after Simon's recent performances."

Alesha Dixon wants to make it in the US.
The 36-year-old star has been meeting with TV executives in Los Angeles about a number of projects and could be set to follow in the footsteps of British presenters Piers Morgan, Simon Cowell, Cat Deeley and Len Goodman by becoming a household name in America.
A source revealed to The Sun newspaper: "Alesha is a major target among the US TV networks.
"They think she's beautiful and articulate - and they love her work alongside Simon on the 'Britain's Got Talent' panel.
"She went over to Los Angeles not knowing if anything would come of it, but was excited to get such a positive response."
Alesha first made the transition from pop star to TV presenter when she replaced Arlene Phillips on the 'Strictly Come Dancing' judging panel after winning the competition herself but was later approached to join Simon, Amanda Holden and David Walliams on BGT.
However, if the 'Breathe Slow' hitmaker does land a job on US TV she will have to wait until the next series of the ITV talent show comes to an end as Amanda recently revealed that all four judges were set to return for another year.
Speaking in October, she said: "We've all be told we're doing it, yep. So we're just waiting for contracts. [They'll be coming through] hopefully next week, I would think."

Linda Carter is to discover she's pregnant with her husband's baby in 'EastEnders'.
The Queen Vic landlady, played by actress Kellie Bright, was worried the baby did not belong to her husband Mick Carter (Danny Dyer) after she was raped by his nephew Dean Wicks (Matt Di Angelo).
However, in scenes set to air later this week, Kellie is seen beaming with joy as she holds Mick's hand during a sonogram, suggesting the baby is in fact her beloved husband's.
A source told the Daily Star newspaper: "Linda has desperately wanted the baby to be Mick's and the look on her face says it all."
The hospital scan is said to reveal Linda's due date, allowing her to calculate how many weeks pregnant she is and therefore who the father is.
Despite receiving good news following her emotional turmoil over whether or not to terminate the pregnancy, Linda is set for further heartbreak when Mick finds out about Dean attacking her.
Speaking previously about the dramatic scenes set to air at Christmas, Danny said: "The audience will know that the bomb is going to go off. But they'll be asking themselves, 'How big is that bomb going to be?' And let me tell you, it's nuclear. I take insanity to a new level."
