Jenna Coleman is returning to 'Doctor Who'.
The 28-year-old actress - who plays Clara Oswald in the BBC programme - has confirmed she will appear in series nine, ending rumours that she was set to quit.
She said: "It's wonderful - a whole other series of stories with the Doctor. I couldn't walk away with the story being unresolved, there's so much more to do and I think [Clara and the Doctor] have finally just reached a point where they really understand each other.
"The arrival of the 12th Doctor has just dropped this bombshell and allowed the dynamic to totally, totally change so I think, just when Clara was feeling more comfortable in the relationship, it's suddenly thrown something totally new up and I think the comeuppance of that and the story that we got to tell over the season has been thrilling."
Her co-star, Peter Capaldi, admitted he was "excited and delighted" when Jenna agreed to another series.
He said: "I think Jenna's been just fantastic and it's been such a pleasure to work with her - and especially for me as the new person onto the show, she's just been fantastic - and so I was so excited and delighted when she finally [agreed to stay]."
However, the decision wasn't straight forward as 'Doctor Who' showrunner, Steven Moffat, revealed.
Speaking to reporters at a Q&A after an early screening of the Christmas Day special, Steven said: "There was a certain amount of to-ing and fro-ing.
"I always think I'm quite good at winding up people on this but Jenna completely outplayed me when she said in an interview 'I'm not telling you if I'm staying or going because it's just more exciting'.
"And it occurred to us all that we don't start shooting until January so we could actually keep it a secret."

Paul O'Grady loves annoying his daughter over the festive holiday with the gifts he buys her children.
The 59-year-old presenter dotes on Abel, eight, and six-year-old Halo - his 40-year-old daughter Sharyn's kids - and particularly enjoys buying them noisy items for Christmas, though he also gives them practical presents too.
He said: "I buy them loads of clothes - practical stuff. I've turned into my mum! And Abel got a guitar, which delighted me because that'll annoy my daughter no end.
"Last year, I got him a drum kit and it drove her out of the house on Valium!"
Paul is known for doting on his three pet dogs but insists he never buys them Christmas gifts or outfits for the holidays, although his Jack Russell/Chihuahua cross Eddie has a coat he wears in the winter.
The 'For The Love Of Dogs' host said: "I don't get them anything. If you give them a squeaky ball they dump it and start rooting around the paper.
"I don't hold with dressing them up at Christmas either, although Eddie has a tartan coat for practical reasons - he hates getting cold."

Miranda Hart never keeps perfume people buy her for Christmas.
The 'Miranda' star thinks buying a fragrance for someone else is very "risky" because it is so personal but she is never impressed with the scents she receives.
She said: "I think it's risky buying people scent because it's so subjective. I don't know whether I get given a lot of it because people are trying to tell me I smell but I always end up passing it on because the ones I seem to get given are quite dog breath-y."
Although she's picky about her presents Miranda loves watching festive movies over the holiday period and though she owns her favourite 'Elf' on DVD, she will stop whatever she is doing if she sees the Will Ferrell movie is on TV.
The comedian - who ended her sitcom 'Miranda' with two specials this Christmas - said: "I know it's Christmas when I first see 'Elf' in the TV schedules.
"It's my favourite Christmas film and although I own the DVD, whenever it's on TV, I like to quickly abort all work and other important activities, get a hot chocolate and watch. Christmas is on."

Michelle Keegan and Mark Wright are hosting Christmas for both their families.
The couple - who plan to marry next year - have recently moved into a new home in Essex and are looking forward to celebrating with all their loved ones.
Michelle said: "We'll be in our new home, hopefully with both families there, but definitely his. We'll all pitch in with the cooking."
And the former 'Coronation Street' star will also find the time for her traditional festive outing with her friends.
She said: "I have a tradition with my girlfriends in Manchester where each year we take it in turns to have everyone round for dinner.
"We get dressed up, do Secret Santa, put Christmas songs on and drink Baileys. We might go out afterwards too."
But Michelle isn't worried about the effects of alcohol as she doesn't drink very much anyway, but always has a plan if she is feeling hungover.
She said: "I eat my way through hangovers - it's the only way.
"I don't drink much anyway, so I don't bother with a January detox, but I guess I might try to be healthier because that's what everyone's doing."

James Jordan is thinking of getting his wife Ola an iron for Christmas.
The 'Celebrity Big Brother' star has been thinking of getting his spouse a joke gift that will come in handy around the house when she's not busy with ballroom training for 'Strictly Come Dancing'.
Quizzed on what he was thinking of getting her, he quipped: "Maybe a new iron or a hoover, I don't know."
However, Ola - who was partnered with 'Deadly 60' presenter Steve Backshall on the BBC One celebrity dance contest this year - claims she'll be returning the favour and is expecting the 36-year-old former 'Strictly' dancer to do his own chores as well as hers.
Responding to his comment, Ola laughed: "He's a cheeky one. What will I get him? I don't know we'll see if I have time to shop. I'll get him an iron and then he can do my ironing."
The 32-year-old Polish beauty went on to admit that sometimes she and her husband of 11 years don't get each other Christmas presents because they're too busy deciding what to get for their families.
When asked if they fill a stocking for one another, she added: "Not really I think we just make sure that everyone else has got presents and sometimes if we're really busy we don't get each other presents and then we get something afterwards."

Dynamo wants a stunt driving course for Christmas.
The 31-year-old magician - whose real name is Steven Frayne - is keen to add a new dimension to his shows so is hoping wife Kelly will buy him a gift to help improve his experiences.
Asked what he wants for Christmas, he said: "I want to be a stunt driver so if the missus got me a course I'd be really pleased. I'm hoping I can incorporate driving with magic in future."
Dynamo also admitted his Christmas celebrations usually involve showing off his tricks for other people, but he doesn't mind.
He said: "There are always lots of children so yes, I'm always performing tricks here and there. I love it."
The magician had one of his best Christmases ever last year because he and his spouse managed to avoid festive chores by staying at a hotel.
He said: "Last year, I took my wife to a hotel and we had the most amazing time.
"We had a suite at the Mandarin Oriental and it had lots of decorations and presents, plus the food was incredible and we didn't have to do the washing up."

Charlotte Crosby hates Christmas.
The 'Geordie Shore' star tries to avoid celebrating on December 25 by getting as drunk as possible the night before and spending the day nursing a hangover in bed.
She said: "To be honest, I don't like Christmas! Every year I get as drunk as I possibly can on Christmas Eve so I can spend the whole of the next day in bed - and it will be no different this year."
Charlotte's co-star Aaron Chalmers recently predicted she will eventually marry her former boyfriend Gaz Beadle.
He said: "The thing is with them two, no matter what ... they could fall out, argue, get with other people and then they'll always go back to each other.
"Probably, in 10 years, they will get married ... I'd be best man, definitely."
However, the tattooed hunk - who fell out with Gaz in series eight over co-star and love interest Marnie Simpson - thinks his best mate still has some wild oats to sow before he'll seriously consider walking down the aisle.
He added: "I think in his own head Gaz knows that he's going to be with Charlotte in the end but he needs to get all these other girls out of his system and then he'll settle down with Charlotte."

Natalie Gumede's claustrophobia spared her from having to shoot certain uncomfortable and scary scenes for the 'Doctor Who' Christmas special.
The 30-year-old actress appears in much-hyped episode 'Last Christmas', which sees Santa Claus and the titular Time Lord - played by Peter Capaldi - meet on screen.
In the adventure many of her co-stars are attacked by face-hugging extra-terrestrials but Natalie's fear of being trapped in small spaces meant she only had to be covered in the prop for minutes at a time.
When asked how she coped having an alien on her face, she exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "I've got a bit of claustrophobia. It's not major, but like that I struggle with. We all had stand-ins anyway, because there was a lot of footage to film while were filming on the computer screens and things like that.
"For the most part, I didn't have to wear one. There were only a couple of moments I had to and the crew and director were really kind, only asking me to put it on at the last second. It wasn't too unpleasant an experience, they made it as nice as they could."
The former 'Coronation Street' actress also revealed her 'Doctor Who' experience has given her a thirst for making more sci-fi dramas, whether they are on TV or the big screen.
Asked whether she'd like to appear in more sci-fi in the future, Natalie said: "I think if that's what comes my way, I'd be very happy to do more sci-fi stuff. You never know what direction you're going to end up in.
"So much of the fun of 'Doctor Who' is the weaponry, the CGI and the green screen. Shooting this felt very much like you were on an adventure."
'Last Christmas' also stars Nick Frost as Santa and Jenna-Louise Coleman as companion Clara Oswald and airs at 6:15pm on Christmas Day (25.12.14) on BBC One.

Danniella Westbrook has been house-hunting in one of Britain's cheapest areas.
The former 'EastEnders' actress recently revealed that money troubles have caused her to become homeless and she's been spotted looking for a new property in Walton, Liverpool - where a two-bedroom terrace can be bought for as little as £25,000.
A friend of the 41-year-old actress said she was keen to move to Liverpool, having enjoyed herself in the city while filming 'Hollyoaks' last year.
The friend said: "Danniella loves Liverpool, she thinks the people are really friendly to her and genuine.
"She has lived in the city when working on Hollyoaks and feels a move might be good for her."
The insider explained that a move from Essex to Liverpool would represent a fresh start for the actress, in part because the cost of rent in Liverpool is cheaper.
The friend told the Daily Star newspaper: "She's a fighter and wants to put this spell behind her.
"Danniella really likes the terrace-style of house they have in some parts of the city, you don't get that style down south."
Mum-of-two Danniella, who famously battled cocaine addiction, has received support from her on-off boyfriend Tom Richards, 25, who recently tweeted: "We both think up north is 4us tbh! (sic)"
