'Sex and the City' creator Candace Bushnell wants to "revisit" the characters.
The 56-year-old writer admitted she still wonders what the fictional characters in the show - which was later made into two films in 2008 and 2010 - are doing, hinting she is sure there will be another re-appearance at some point in the future.
When asked if she thinks about Carrie Bradshaw - played by actress Sarah Jessica Parker - and the other characters, she said: "Yeah, I do. I feel like we're going to revisit those characters, maybe in another movie or something, down the road."
However, the author was quick to quash rumours a third film in the franchise is already in production.
She added: "Of course I'll say this and they'll say 'Candace Bushnell says there's going to be a 'Sex and the City 3,' which I'm not: but I would like to revisit them in some way."
Candace - who penned columns about her dating experiences for the New York Observer newspaper in the 1990s, which were later adapted into the show - admitted the characters in the series are important for many people though, so would like to see them return.
She explained to the Independent newspaper: "Those characters are, in a way, part of the psyche of a certain generation of women. It's like the phenomenon of 'Friends'. People really related to the characters in that show and it's the same thing with 'Sex and the City' - we feel like those characters are our girlfriends."

Stevi Ritchie and Chloe Jasmine Whichello are joining 'Celebrity Big Brother'.
The wannabe singers found love on last year's series of 'The X Factor' and are now planning to spice things up by entering the house as a couple when the reality series kicks off next month.
An inside source said: "Stevi and Chloe are both characters in their own right so combined they are double the drama."
Stevi, who came sixth, and Chloe, who bombed out of the singing contest in 13th position, won't be the first couple to have entered the house, with Jade Goody and Jack Tweed competing as a pair in 2007 and 'The Hills' stars Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt doing the same in 2013.
The news follows their recent announcement they intend to get married, less than a year after they met.
She said: "This isn't a showmance, you can't turn feelings off."
Chloe, 25, was originally criticised for pursuing the 34-year-old musician during the series as she was already in a relationship, although she insists she was the first one to say "I love you".
She explained: "I told him in November, I had to try and track him down at his gigs at first and find out what hotel he was staying at.
"I love the idea of marriage, but I don't think it matters where you get married."
Other stars set to enter the competition - which will have a UK versus USA theme - include model and former 'I'm A Celebrity ... Get Me Out Of Here' contestant Janice Dickinson and 35-year-old hype man Fatman Scoop.

Sir Michael Parkinson has branded the BBC "barmy" for firing Jeremy Clarkson.
The TV legend has slammed the broadcaster for getting rid of the 'Top Gear' host and believes the show will never work with BBC Radio 2 presenter Chris Evans, who was recently announced as the star to take over from Jeremy.
He said: "They were barmy to sack him in the first place and equally barmy to try to replace him and no one can. It's a different kind of show but don't try to pull together the same team and pretend to be the same.
"It's absurd. You can't replace Clarkson. It is Clarkson's programme and he is the centre point and I can't see it working with Chris.
"There are three people and the only person who absolutely mattered was Clarkson."
The 80-year-old presenter - who recently announced he has been given the all clear of cancer following two years of treatment - continued to say he is worried about his pal, Chris, because he believes he is taking on too much.
He told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "People will always compare him to Clarkson. It's like someone following Chris into the (BBC Radio 2) morning slot.
"And Chris is bringing 'TFI Friday' back and when is he going to fit the time in? Let's hope he doesn't extend himself too far.
"I just worry he doesn't need to do it any more. He doesn't need the money either."

Ant McPartlin dressed Declan Donnelly in women's clothing on his stag do.
The 39-year-old TV host threw a wild bash to celebrate his presenting partner's forthcoming nuptials last month, during which he got his own back on Dec following a cruel prank at his own stag do in 2006 when he woke up in a McDonald's restaurant in a French maid outfit.
A source revealed: "There was no way Ant was going to let Dec forget the French maid incident. Dressing him as a woman was always going to happen. It was hysterical."
Dec, also 39, proposed to Ali, his manager of 11 years, last December, and celebrated his upcoming marriage with celebrity pals including Paddy McGuinness and Keith Lemon at the bash in West London, following his first stag do which was held in Las Vegas back in January.
Speaking about their wild night, Ant told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "I put him through the wringer. It was brilliant. The thing I'm most proud of is he wasn't sick until the early hours."
However, their booze-filled night out was just the first part of Ant's duties as best man and he is feeling the pressure to impress with his speech at the wedding.
Speaking about the ceremony, he said: "I can't bloody wait! He was best man for me.
"His speech was very good, very funny, so I've got a lot to get him back with."

Jameela Jamil would love to be a judge on 'The Voice'.
The former Radio One DJ revealed that she wants to walk in Nick Grimshaw's footsteps - who is also a DJ for Radio One and was recently announced as the new 'X Factor' judge for this year, replacing Louis Walsh - and that being a judge on a music reality show is definitely something she would consider as she "loves music and loves nurturing young talent".
Speaking about whether being on a judging panel is something that appeals to her, the 28-year-old beauty exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "Oh yes! I love music, I love new talent, and it's definitely something I would be been interested in if the right show came along - I love nurturing young talent and I think it's really fun to find new talent."
Jameela also said that a lot of popstars today use sex to sell records as opposed to actually being talented.
She said: "I think a lot of people in the music industry are often more style over substance and what I would love to be a part of, is finding people who can really, really sing and finding people who can really grow, and create real musicians again like the old days, not like some of popstars today who just got naked and just do anything in order to sell singles.
"I would want people who really have the chop, I think that's what would be really exciting about being a judge of one of those shows."
Jameela Jamil hosted the launch event for 'Why Not People? - a brand new music and events members club for disabled people - at the Troxy in London on Wednesday evening (01.07.15).

Simon Cowell has defended his decision to hire Nick Grimshaw for 'The X Factor'.
The 55-year-old music mogul faced criticism by some fans when he announced the BBC Radio 1 DJ would be joining the judging panel alongside himself, Rita Ora and Cheryl Fernandez-Versini.
He said: "When I first appeared on TV, nobody knew who I was. I just ran a record label. I actually never even got paid the first time I did 'Pop Idol'. But I thought: God, this is amazing, I can sit on a show and find artists. It's fantastic ...
"I have an issue with artists judging other artists. I would never allow a group of artists to run the record label. That would be crazy. You have to balance it up a bit."
The 'X Factor' judge also revealed fans could expect a "raft of changes" in the new series.
He added to The Sun newspaper: "It's got to lighten up. It all got a bit heavy last year. The important thing is that we have got to concentrate on the talent because that is what's going to make the difference.
"I know everyone focuses on the judges but I think we have to focus on the contestants. I've got some ideas and I'm excited about what's coming."
