Sir Michael Parkinson: BBC ‘barmy’ for Jeremy Clarkson sacking

Sir Michael Parkinson has branded the BBC "barmy" for firing Jeremy Clarkson.

The TV legend has slammed the broadcaster for getting rid of the ‘Top Gear’ host and believes the show will never work with BBC Radio 2 presenter Chris Evans, who was recently announced as the star to take over from Jeremy.

He said: "They were barmy to sack him in the first place and equally barmy to try to replace him and no one can. It’s a different kind of show but don’t try to pull together the same team and pretend to be the same.

"It’s absurd. You can’t replace Clarkson. It is Clarkson’s programme and he is the centre point and I can’t see it working with Chris.

"There are three people and the only person who absolutely mattered was Clarkson."

The 80-year-old presenter – who recently announced he has been given the all clear of cancer following two years of treatment – continued to say he is worried about his pal, Chris, because he believes he is taking on too much.

He told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "People will always compare him to Clarkson. It’s like someone following Chris into the (BBC Radio 2) morning slot.

"And Chris is bringing ‘TFI Friday’ back and when is he going to fit the time in? Let’s hope he doesn’t extend himself too far.

"I just worry he doesn’t need to do it any more. He doesn’t need the money either."
