Sam Worthington allegedly tried to use his celebrity status to avoid being charged with assault.
The 'Avatar' star, who was arrested and charged for allegedly punching photographer Sheng Li in New York City in February, has been accused of reminding police officers about his starring role in the 2009 blockbuster and trying to take advantage of his fame.
During a court appearance on Tuesday (01.04.14) the paparazzo's lawyer claimed the 37-year-old Australian star asked police, "Have you seen the movie, 'Avatar?"
The photographer recently secured a restraining order against the Hollywood star but appeared in court as he is also facing assault and harassment charges.
His lawyer, Mark Heller, painted his client as the victim and also accused Sam of trying to steal his camera, according to gossip website TMZ.com.
Sam did not attend the hearing, as his case is being handled separately.
The actor appeared in court in February after he was charged with two counts of third degree assault, one count of attempted assault and one count of harassment stemming from the incident.
But a source previously claimed that he was merely defending his girlfriend Lara Bingle, 26, after she was allegedly kicked in the shin by the paparazzo as the couple were leaving Cubbyhole bar in Greenwich Village on February 23.
The actor is due back in court on May 8.

Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin have reportedly been branded the "neighbours from hell."
Residents living beside the former couple, who announced their separation last Tuesday (25.03.14) after 10 years of marriage, have accused them of violating zoning laws by installing a nine-foot black gate outside their $10 million mansion in Brentwood, California and are demanding they remove it immediately.
Locals first filed a complaint about the gate with the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety last year and are allegedly planning to sue the duo if they don't take action, according to gossip website RadarOnline.com.
Neighbours also claim that their house has looked like a "building site" since they purchased it in 2012.
One resident said: "There was always work being done at the house. I only got annoyed when the workmen would illegally park in my driveway and they hadn't even spoken to me about it."
Another insider said the 'Iron Man 3' star is "not popular" in the area because she has never made the effort to get to know people.
But neighbour Hilda McGonigle added: "We used to see Chris walking the dogs. He was a really nice guy. He was the one with the talent; she was the one just writing cookbooks. To some people, their issues might get on people's nerves, but I personally didn't care. I didn't have much time for her, but I liked him."

Rita Ora had never fallen in love until she met Calvin Harris.
The 23-year-old singer has been dating the Scottish DJ for almost a year and says she had been left in the "wilderness" looking for the right person until he came along.
She said: "There are so many things. The fact that he got something out of me that I never thought I had. Yes, like falling in love. I just didn't think I had it. I'd never experienced it before. And I was just like in the wilderness, thinking, 'Will it ever happen?' "
And the 'I Will Never Let You Down' singer says her contentment in her relationship is reflected in the songs on her new album 'O'.
Speaking to the new edition of Britain's ELLE magazine, she explained: "I didn't know what the f**k I was doing on my first album, let's be honest. I was a kid having the time of my life. And I made a party album - party and bulls**t.
"This time, I'm still having a great time, but I'm in a great, loving place. Now I want people to see you can have fun and be in love at the same time."

Kaley Cuoco felt like a "rock star" on her wedding day.
The 'Big Bang Theory' actress married Ryan Sweeting in December, three months after they got engaged and six months after they started dating, and though their nuptials happened fast, she has no regrets because she knows they are right for each other.
She said: "I admit it happened fast, but that's who I am. When we met, I knew he was the one. [At my wedding], I felt like a rock star and a badass. What was amazing in that room, it was so full of love. It was like nothing I'd ever been to before, and it was exactly what we wanted it to be. It was the eighth wonder of the world, the greatest wedding of all time."
The 28-year-old actress previously dated 'Big Bang Theory' co-star Johnny Galecki and though she admits working with him after they ended their two-year relationship in 2009 was initially awkward, they are not great friends.
She told the May edition of America's Cosmopolitan magazine: "It took a minute, a bit of awkwardness. By the grace of God, we became best buddies and moved on in such an elegant way. [He's] one of my closest friends. He was in the front row at my wedding, with a huge smile on his face."
Caley also briefly dated 'Superman actor Henry Cavill and was amazed at how much attention the relationship drew.
She said: "I had no one following me until I met Superman. I've been in this business for 20 years, and my whole life, I could go anywhere, do anything. There had not been one paparazzi photo of me until like several months ago. The recognition was crazy."

Chris Brown declared his love for Karrueche Tran in a voicemail she posted online.
The 'Yeah 3x' hitmaker called his on/off girlfriend - who he was believed to have recently split from - from jail to ask her to pass a message on to thank fans for their support with his new video 'Loyal'.
He said in the message: "I'm calling all my fans, letting ya'll know I love ya'll. Thank ya'll for all the support.
"Thanks for everything. The video just came out so I hope ya'll enjoyed that."
He then ended the call saying: "And most importantly, K, Karrueche, I love you."
It had been claimed the 25-year-old model had ended her relationship with Chris, 24, because she was angry about him texting other women, and friends say she is "confused" about what will happen in their future.
A source told HollywoodLife.com: "In her heart, she's still confused and upset about a lot of different things but they have yet to really sit down and talk in-depth about what happened, what they're going to do about it and where to go from here.
"She knows Chris is in jail and is paying for a lot more than violating his probation. She just hopes that this time, with his freedom being taken from him, that he learns to stay clean and sober, treat people better and learn that the world doesn't revolve around him."
Chris is being held in a Los Angeles jail until a probation violation hearing on April 23.
Being thrown out of the court-ordered anger management programme - which was extended from an initial three-month period, which Chris had completed, in light of his facing further legal problems - was considered to be a violation of his probation.
Chris' legal troubles in Los Angeles stem from the assault of his then-girlfriend Rihanna in 2009.
In a separate case, the 'Turn Up the Music' singer also faces a charge of misdemeanor assault in Washington D.C., which will be heard on April 17.

Katy Perry is planning to become an art collector.
The 'Teenage Dream' singer has decided to add another string to her bow by investing in fine art after becoming interested in the expensive hobby thanks to Beverly Hills gallerist Marc Selwyn.
The newly-single star told E! News: "I'm going to slowly become an art collector. Today, we had an all-day art crawl. We got to see some private collections from some people's homes and then we went to a couple of galleries."
It seems Katy, 29, might have found a passion she enjoys as much as music and was thoroughly impressed with Los Angeles' art hotspots, where she saw works by the likes of Pablo Picasso, James Turell, Roy Lichtenstein and Jeff Koons.
She explained: "What I'm really drawn to is modern contemporary art and pop art, of course. Also some key photography. I've always loved Cindy Sherman and today I got interested in Lee Friedlander...
"This is all brand new. I'm really interested in having an art history education."
However, the 'Roar' singer will have to put her newfound interest on hold for seven months because she is due to start her Prismatic World Tour on May 7 in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
She teased: "I'm challenging myself again, pushing my limits as I do, as a Scorpion does. I'm very excited because I believe this is my best work yet as far as live performances.
"It's going to be just as colourful and fun as before, but's obviously not based on candy. It's grown up. It's more mature."

Pink's court case against Specialists Entertainment production company has been dismissed.
The singer's record label Sony Music will get to keep the $36,213.31 they were accused of withholding in royalties to two producers, who claimed they were owed the cash for working on two tracks, 'Hiccup' and 'Can't Take Me Home', from the star's 2000 debut album of the same name.
According to RadarOnline.com, a New York appeal court sided with Pink - real name Alecia Moore - and her label on March 4 and have dismissed the case.
The site reports that the legal documents explained that "granted plaintiff's cross motion to amend its complaint to add a lain for breach of contract as a third-party beneficiary as against defendant Sony Music Holdings, Inc., unanimously reversed, on the law, without costs, the cross motion denied, and the complaint dismissed.
"The agreement, requesting and authorizing Sony to deduct a portion of royalties payable to Moore and to pay them directly to plaintiff, by its express terms, negates any intent to permit enforcement by third-parties."
It was ruled the producers cannot claim money from Sony because the agreement was with Pink.

Charlie Sheen has thrown his final wild party before getting married.
The 'Anger Management' star hosted a bash in November last year with a predominantly-female guest list but his now-fiancée Brett Rossi warned it would be the last one he threw.
A guest of the event at Charlie's Mulholland Estate in Beverly Hills said: "It was just a great party. Being a 'Charlie Sheen party, there was - like always - more girls than guys. Everyone was getting along very well, except for one person."
The 48-year-old actor's porn star girlfriend was reportedly furious with the guest list at the shindig and made it clear to her partner that the night was to be his final hurrah before settling down with her for good.
The source added: "She was not impressed. All of the guests had their cell phones confiscated and everyone signed non-disclosure agreements. The party had sky writers, fantastic food and Charlie was clearly having fun.
"Little did he realise it would be the last party he would be hosting like that for a very, very long time!
"As long as Brett is in the picture, there will be no more parties with Charlie's harem of women."
Charlie proposed to his girlfriend - who is half his age at 24 years old - while on a Valentine's Day (14.02.14) trip to Hawaii but the wedding is currently on hold as she is yet to finalise her divorce from her first husband, Jonathan Ross.

Jennifer Love Hewitt's wedding was "really sweet".
The 34-year-old actress tied the knot with her 'Client List' co-star Brian Hallisay just days before their daughter Autumn was born last November, and their intimate ceremony was very special.
She said: "I got married . . . Five days before she was born, basically.
"It was just the two of us and then we went to Bed, Bath and Beyond because that's what married people do.
"It was very, it was really sweet and he's an awesome, incredible father and a great husband and I just feel really lucky."
Though 'The Ghost Whisperer' actress' daughter is just four months old, she is very musical and Jennifer already thinks she will grow up to be a dancer.
Speaking on 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show', she said: "She's fantastic. She's sleeping better now, not so much in the beginning, which was a little rough. But, she's a great sleeper now.
"She watches your show everyday. We both get very excited when the theme song starts and she watches you dance.
"She's big into hip-hop and Latin music for some reason. She does the Dougie...I take her arms and do the Dougie...The second the show comes on and you start dancing she like she does this weird kick thing with her leg and she gets her little chair. She loves it. I think she's gonna be a dancer. I really do. She loves it."
