Michael J. Fox is suing a medical research laboratory.
The 'Back to the Future' star - who was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in 1991 - and his eponymous foundation filed a lawsuit against New Jersey laboratory Coriell Institute for Medical Research on Friday (03.10.14) claiming the clinic mishandled 25,000 study samples, destroying years of progress in Parkinson's research.
The lawsuit - for breach of contract and negligence - claims the company failed to properly store samples after an employee left a freezer door open and as a result, the thawed medical specimans are now unsuitable for testing.
The not-for-profit organisation claim in the legal documents that over $3.5 million of research material was ruined, considerably setting back their five-year research project.
The 53-year-old actor - who has children Sam, 25, twins Aquinnah and Schuyler, 19, and Esme, 12, with wife Tracy Pollan -has previously claimed the neurological disorder has "enriched" his life because it made him step back and appreciate what was important.
He said: "If I didn't have Parkinson's then my life would have been more of the same - acting, travelling and being away from my family.
"My illness forced me to spend time with my family, to work on my foundation, and my life is so much richer because of it. It's altered my reality is such a positive way."

Nude photos of Kelly Brook have been leaked online.
The 26-year-old model - who recently split from her fiancé David McIntosh - is the latest star to have intimate images of herself, which include her lying naked on a bed, posted online and she is said to be "very upset" about the leak.
A friend of Kelly told The Sun newspaper: "She is naturally very upset.
"She may have profited from images of her body in the past, but these were private images pumped out to the world. She's horrified."
The brunette beauty was previously named in a list of celebrities whose private photos had been targeted by online hackers - which is also said to have included stars Jennifer Lawrence, Kim Kardashian and Kate Upton - but denied the existence of the stolen images.
She said at the time: "The only nude photos that you'll ever see of me are the ones that I 'leak'. And the ones that my head are superimposed on."
Fellow victim Jennifer Lawrence - who was targeted for the second time last month when trolls released a further 55 x-rated images of the star on websites 4Chan and Reddit - has spoken out for the first time following the scandal and has defended her decision to take the nude shots.
She said: "Just because I'm an actress does not mean I asked for this. I was in a loving healthy relationship for four years. It was long distance and either your boyfriend is going to look at porn or he's going to look at you."

Paris Hilton has introduced her puppy Prince to her dog Tinkerbell.
The 33-year-old beauty splashed out $13,000 on the Pomeranian puppy last month and has now introduced her new pet to her beloved Chihuahua Tinkerbell and the other dogs in her famous family.
Alongside a video of the pooches getting acquainted, which she posted on Instagram, Paris wrote: "Just introduced @Prince_Hilton_The_Pom to Tinkerbell and @BunnyHilton & pups over at my parents house. Bunny is very jealous of the new baby. (sic)"
Assuring her fans that she was still very much in love with her original four-legged sidekick, Tinkerbell, she also posted a number of adorable images and videos of the cheeky-looking Chihuahua.
Captioning a video of her running around and then jumping on to her four-poster dog bed, Paris wrote: "To everyone who keeps asking if Tinkerbell is alive. Here she is, the original queen herself! (sic)"
The socialite also uploaded a snap of Tinkerbell relaxing on her elegant double bed with her canine pal Pixie.
Meanwhile, Prince - who Paris originally named Mr. Amazing before changing his moniker to Prince Hilton - recently posed for his first photo shoot alongside his glamorous owner.

Amanda Bynes screamed at a photographer at Gilded Lily in New York during Nylon magazine's It Girl party.
The 28-year-old, who recently returned to the city following a stint in rehab, walked along the red carpet before the party, but refused to pose for pictures and instead stood with her back to the waiting photographers.
However, once she was inside the venue, a photographer tried to capture an image of her, which prompted a furious response from the actress. A spy told the New York Post's Page Six column: "She started screaming 'You have to delete your photos!'
"Amanda was screeching and flailing and going wild, and the photographer was visibly shaken."
The incident comes shortly after Bynes claimed she's engaged to her 19-year-old boyfriend Caleb.
Speaking to InTouch magazine, she explained: "I am very needy for friendship and I hate men. I want to f*** them, but I can now say I'm engaged, I want to be married and I want to be away from people."
Bynes also said hopes she and her fiancé, who lives in Costa Mesa, California, will have lots of baby boys after they marry.
She said: "I want boys, for sure. However many I can pop out. I don't want a gorgeous girl around. Then I [would] feel way jealous. Ew."

Earlier this month, Jerry Hall said she is worried about her ex-husband Sir Mick Jagger following L'Wren Scott's death.
Hall, 58, admitted it will be "very difficult" for Jagger, 71, to continue with his band's tour of Australia, which was postponed after his girlfriend took her own life.
She told the Daily Mail Weekend magazine: "That's going to be very difficult for him. What a tragedy. She was such a lovely girl and really talented.

Courteney Cox is working on a sitcom for herself, Lisa Kudrow and Jennifer Aniston.
The 'Cougar Town' actress is keen to work with her former 'Friends' co-stars again after remembering how much fun they used to have together when they all appeared on Jimmy Kimmel's talk show last month.
A source told Heat magazine: "Courteney wants to direct a pilot staring herself, Jen and Lisa as middle-aged women who have kids by artificial means.
"She started talks after their appearance on Jimmy Kimmel. They had another dinner together in LA on 23 September to discuss details and it went really well.
"They're all incredibly excited at the prospect of working together again. Doing Jimmy's show reminded them how much fun they used to have."
However, Jennifer - the only one of the actresses not to have children - is said to be a bit uncertain about the show's subject matter.
The source added: "The baby topic must have hit a nerve for her. She's the only one who hasn't had children. Courteney's got her daughter Coco and Lisa has Julian, while Jen hasn't become a mum yet, so it must be difficult to joke about.
"Either way, the three girls are in total agreement that a work reunion of some sorts is in order."

The 'After Earth' actor, who is rumoured to be dating 'Keeping Up with the Kardashians' beauty Kylie Jenner, admits he was very jealous of her Australian ex-boyfriend in the past, but insists they are now friends.
The 16-year-old star opened up about their feud for the first time on Twitter on Tuesday (07.10.14), writing: "I Used To hate Cody Simpson Because He Got All The Girls When I Should Have Just Show My Appreciation Like I Do Now."
