Queen Elizabeth expresses sympathy for victims of Paris attack

Britain's Queen Elizabeth has extended her sympathies to the President of France following the terrorism attacks in Paris.
The 88-year-old monarch has written a message to François Hollande in which she expresses her "sincere condolences" after 12 people were killed during an attack on the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo yesterday morning (07.01.15).
In her message addressed to the French President, she wrote: "Prince Philip and I send our sincere condolences to the families of those who have been injured in Paris this morning.
"We send our thoughts and prayers to all of those who have been affected. Elizabeth R."
Four of Charlie Hebdo's well-known cartoonists, including its editor, were among those killed in the attacks, in addition to two police officers.
French police have launched a major search to find three men who fled from the scene in a car.
President Francois Hollande described the incident as a terrorist attack "of exceptional barbarity".
He added: "We are threatened because we are a country of liberty."
Meanwhile, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said: "It was a horrendous, unjustifiable and cold-blooded crime. It was also a direct assault on a cornerstone of democracy, on the media and on freedom of expression."

James Middleton’s business ‘falls deeper into debt’

The brother of Britain's Duchess of Cambridge has reportedly seen his company run into deeper debt.
James Middleton's food firm Nice Group London Ltd recorded losses of £23,353 in the 12 months to the end of March 2014, according to the latest accounts.
It was, therefore, the third straight year that the firm has failed to make a profit, the Daily Mirror newspaper reports.
In 2012/13, Nice Group London lost £21,148 and the year before that, the company lost £20,000.
What's more, the brother of the Duchess - who was known as Kate Middleton prior to her marriage to Prince William in 2011 - has seen the amount owed to creditors increase from just under £36,000 to almost £76,400 in the last 12 months.
Meanwhile, Clarence House has revealed details of some of the planned public engagements for the Duchess, who is currently pregnant with her second child.
The 32-year-old royal, who celebrates her birthday on Friday (09.01.15), will visit Barlby Primary School in London on January 15, where she will visit the Clore art room as part of her association with the Art Room charity.
The next day will see the Duchess attend an event hosted by the Fostering Network, where she will "celebrate the dedicated work of foster carers".

David Cameron refuses to discuss Prince Andrew abuse claims

Prime Minister David Cameron has declined the opportunity to publicly support Britain's Prince Andrew over claims he had sex with an under-age girl.
American Virginia Roberts has claimed she had sex with the royal when she was 17 in Florida, where the age of consent was and is 18.
Asked about the accusations, the Prime Minister told LBC: "I'm not going to make any comment on it. Obviously, the Prince has made his own views very, very clear, and I think I'll leave it at that."
Prince Andrew has vehemently denied the accusations and has received strong support from a number of public figures, including Mayor of London Boris Johnson.
He said: "Prince Andrew, let's be very clear, is a guy who does a huge amount of unsung, unheralded work for this country.
"People, they go on and and about the air miles and so on, actually I have seen that guy get out there and sell this country, try and help British firms to get business around the world.
"He does a huge amount of good and a huge amount of hard work. So if you are asking me whether I have sympathy for him, of course I do."

Ellen Page blasts Queen over MBE award

Britain's Queen Elizabeth has been criticised by Ellen Page for awarding an MBE to a Northern Irish politician who "blamed Hurricane Katrina and Aids" on homosexuals.
The 27-year-old actress, who revealed she was gay last year, took to Twitter to criticise the monarch's decision to award the prestigious honour to Maurice Mills, a Democratic Unionist Party councillor for Ballymena.
The message, which has already been retweeted more than 2,000 times, read: "The Queen honored a politician who blamed Hurricane Katrina & AIDS on LGBT people - f*** that. (sic)"
Speaking in 2005 about Hurricane Katrina, Mills - who is receiving his MBE for services to local government - is claimed to have said: "The media failed to report that the hurricane occurred just two days prior to the annual homosexual event called the Southern Decadence festival [in New Orleans] which the previous year had attracted an estimated 125,000 people. Surely this is a warning to nations where such wickedness is increasingly promoted and practised."
Mills also reportedly made inflammatory remarks about the issue of AIDS.
He is alleged to have said: "This abominable and filthy practice of sodomy has resulted in the great continent of Africa being riddled with Aids."

Boris Johnson voices his support for Prince Andrew

Mayor of London Boris Johnson has sympathy for Britain's Prince Andrew over recent sex allegations made against him.
The 54-year-old prince has been accused by American Virginia Roberts of having sex with her when she was 17 in the state of Florida, where the age of consent was and is 18.
However, Prince Andrew has received support from the London Mayor, who told LBC: "Prince Andrew, let's be very clear, is a guy who does a huge amount of unsung, unheralded work for this country.
"People, they go on and and about the air miles and so on, actually I have seen that guy get out there and sell this country, try and help British firms to get business around the world.
"He does a huge amount of good and a huge amount of hard work. So if you are asking me whether I have sympathy for him, of course I do."
Boris said people in Britain struggle to appreciate the influence Prince Andrew has in the global business community.
He explained: "We may think it's bizarre, but somebody who is the second son of the Queen is felt in many parts of the world to be an interesting and significant figure and they will receive him cordially and people who come with him they want to hear what business suggestions they have.
"So I think that people should respect that side of his work."
Prince Andrew has already denied all of the accusations made against him.

Prince William and Prince Harry ‘don’t have time to play sport’

Britain's Prince William and Prince Harry don't get to spend much time playing polo because their time has become more "precious".
The brothers both enjoy playing the sport - much like their father Prince Charles - but according to Tim Keyte, executive polo manager at Cirencester Park Polo Club, they are increasingly busy with their royal duties.
He reflected: "Charles spent a lot more time playing and he also played a lot of tournaments.
"The boys don't get to play the tournaments anymore. Those tournaments run over two or three weeks and they can't commit to it for that long or just pick and choose games."
Keyte acknowledged that William - who is currently preparing the birth of his second child with the Duchess of Cambridge - and Harry are both busy attending royal engagements.
He told the Daily Telegraph newspaper: "They (William and Harry) don't get enough time to do it because they're both so busy doing their other stuff. We used to see quite a lot of them. They started their polo careers here, of course, and we saw a lot of them in their development polo years."

Duchess of Cambridge to attend two public engagements in January

Britain's Duchess of Cambridge will attend two public engagements this month.
Clarence House has confirmed that the Duchess - who was known as Kate Middleton prior to her marriage to Prince William in 2011 - will first visit Barlby Primary School in London on January 15, where she will officially name the Clore art room as part of her association with the Art Room charity.
Clarence House tweeted: "The Duchess of Cambridge is Patron of @TheArtRoomUK which offers art as therapy to young people who are facing challenges in their lives."
The next day, the 32-year-old royal, who is currently pregnant with her second child, will attend an event hosted by the Fostering Network, where she will "celebrate the dedicated work of foster carers".
The Duchess, who will celebrate her birthday on January 9 and is due to give birth in April, was forced to withdraw from a number of planned engagements late last year because of severe morning sickness.
She was, for instance, forced to cancel a trip to Malta, where she was due to attend a number of specially-arranged events.
However, since entering her second trimester, she has returned to her royal duties.

Playwright defends Truth, Lies, Diana

The writer of a new play concerning Britain's royal family has defended his production.
Jon Conway is the playwright behind 'Truth, Lies, Diana' - which opens in London's West End this month - and he claims many aspects of the play have been distorted.
In particular, he has dismissed claims the play infers that James Hewitt, not Prince Charles, is the father of Prince Harry.
Conway explained: "The play contains one five-minute scene about James Hewitt.
"The reason it's included is because I believe the start of the disinformation about Princess Diana goes back to Hewitt. On record, he's never said anything bad about the Royal Family, he's never claimed to be Harry's father and he isn't claiming that now."
Recalling the conversations he's had with Hewitt, the playwright told The Daily Beast: "What he said was, 'The inconvenient truth is, I actually did know her before, but we've all kept quiet because of the furore it would cause and people would put two and two together.
"And of course that's exactly what's happened.
"I feel bad that he's been misrepresented and it's a tiny part of the play."
