Britain's Duchess of Cambridge has gone into labour.
The 33-year-old royal was admitted to the Lindo Wing at St Mary's Hospital in West London earlier this morning (02.05.15).
A post on Kensington Palace's official Twitter account confirmed the news. It read: "HRH The Duchess of Cambridge was admitted at 06.00hrs to St Mary's Hospital, Paddington, London and is in the early stages of labour.
"The Duchess travelled by car from Kensington Palace to the Lindo Wing at St. Mary's Hospital with The Duke of Cambridge."
The new baby will be fourth in line to the throne behind grandfather Prince Charles, father Prince William and 21-month-old brother Prince George.
Meanwhile, it has been said that the Duke and Duchess do not know the gender of the baby yet but Prince Charles is keen on having a granddaughter.
He said previously: "I'm happy I'm going to be a grandfather again. I'm looking forward to it - but I hope it will be a girl this time."
Following the birth of the little boy or girl, there is to be an increase in security as per standard procedure.
Ken Wharfe, a former head of security for Kensington Palace, said: "Currently, William and Kate have a protection team, I would imagine, of somewhere in the region of about six and eight between them, with the resources calling upon additional security should they need it.
"In amongst that team, you have an additional two people that will be solely responsible for the protection of George.
"[When the new baby arrives,] that security will be increased again by probably another one.
"Not that George goes out on public duties, but there has to be extra security for obvious reasons. Because they will go out with nannies."

Britain's Prince Charles joked about his "ranga" son Prince Harry yesterday (30.04.15).
The 30-year-old royal is currently on a month-long military secondment in Australia and his father thinks he has settled into the country well and is sure he is "happy" because of the local people's "fondness" for red-heads, for which ranga is a local slang term.
He said: "I suspect my old Harry is pretty well acclimatised by now and will probably be eating lamingtons, Vegemite sandwiches, Iced VoVos and Violet Crumble bars - and may even be threatening to buy a pair of budgie smugglers.
"Whatever the case, I am sure he'll be happy Down Under because of the Aussies' fondness for rangas."
On a more serious note, Charles - who was speaking after touring the Indigenous Australia: Enduring Civilisation exhibition at the British museum - felt his son may, like him, have been captivated by the deep spiritual relationship that indigenous Australians have with the land "which is part of their being in every sense".
The exhibition is the first major UK show to present a history of indigenous Australia through objects and the 66-year-old royal hopes it will inspire people to "regain that sense of reverence for the natural environment".
He said: "My great hope is that exhibitions of this kind can help build a bridge to enable indigenous and non-indigenous people to communicate with, and understand, one another more effectively.
"If it can also inspire us to regain that sense of reverence for the natural environment, which is so much a part of the innate wisdom of all indigenous communities around the world, then perhaps it will have helped us all to learn to be better custodians of the planet."

Britain's Queen Elizabeth is planning to amend state prayers to include Duchess Camilla.
The 88-year-old monarch - who is Supreme Governor of the Church of England - reportedly considered making the change ahead of her son Prince Charles and the duchess' 10th wedding anniversary last month, but decided not to go ahead at that time.
A source told the Daily Mail newspaper: "The queen is waiting for the right moment."
At present, the state prayers mention only Charles and the queen's husband, Prince Philip, by name.
The prayer reads: "Almighty God, the fountain of all goodness, we humbly beseech thee to bless, Philip Duke of Edinburgh, Charles Prince of Wales, and all the Royal Family.
"Endue them with thy Holy Spirit; enrich them with thy heavenly grace; prosper them with all happiness; and bring them to thine everlasting kingdom; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen."
The state prayer for the royal family was last amended in 2002 following the death of Elizabeth, the Queen mother.
Charles - who was previously married to the late Princess Diana - will inherit the title of Supreme Governor of the Church of England when he ascends to the throne.

Britain's Prince William and Duchess Catherine sent a royal "superfan" a birthday cake.
Terry Hutt has been camped outside London's St. Mary's Hospital - where the couple will welcome their second child into the world - for a week and his 80th birthday yesterday (30.04.15) was marked by a special sweet treat from the royals.
And the pensioner was "over the moon" to receive the cake, along with a hand-written card bearing the prince's monogram.
The message read: "Dear Terry, This comes with our best wishes on your 80th birthday, From the team at Kensington Palace."
Earlier this week, the couple - who already have 21-month-old son Prince George - sent a delivery of coffee and pastries to well-wishers waiting outside the hospital, with a royal spokesperson said the gesture was to let the fans know "they were thinking of them".
A royal source added: "The duke and duchess were aware that they had been out there for a long time and just wanted to do something for them."
The breakfast treats were wrapped in pink ribbon, fuelling speculation that the couple are expecting a girl.
However, a source said: "The shop where they came from just happens to use pink ribbon."

Britain's Prince Charles wants a granddaughter.
The heir to the throne - whose daughter-in-law Duchess Catherine is a week overdue with her second child - made the admission when joking with Eric Jones, the oldest surviving member of the Welsh Guard, about the difficulties of raising girls.
The retired soldier's daughter, Lynda Bateman, who attended a reception with Eric at Windsor Castle yesterday (30.04.15), said: "My father introduced me as his daughter and Prince Charles asked how many daughters he had.
"My father said 'One - and that's enough', and Charles laughed and said 'And we're hoping for a granddaughter!' "
The 66-year-old prince is already grandfather to Catherine and his son Prince William's first child, 21-month-old Prince George, and his wife Duchess Camilla has five grandchildren from her first marriage.
Charles has previously admitted he hopes the new addition to the family will be a princess.
Speaking shortly after it was announced Catherine was pregnant again, he said last year: "I'm happy I'm going to be a grandfather again. I'm looking forward to it - but I hope it will be a girl this time."
Another attendee at the event, Maureen Morris, asked Camilla if there had been any news as to whether Catherine - who was known as Kate Middleton - had gone into labour yet.
Maureen said: "She said 'No'. I said 'It will be great when it happens.'

Britain's Prince Charles took part in a spinning class yesterday (29.04.15).
The 66-year-old royal - whose son Prince William and daughter-in-law Duchess Catherine will welcome their second child into the world any day now - impressed women taking part in the stationary bike-based exercise class when he joined them during a tour of a new sports centre at Dumfries House Estate in Cumnock, East Ayrshire.
Spin class instructor Sharon McQuillan said: "I can't believe he got on the bike - that was great.
"I was really surprised because it's a hard class and it's even hard just to get on the bike. Maybe he'll come back soon and do a full class, I'm sure he could last it, no problem, although I don't think he should wear his suit.
"When you've got young grandchildren you need to be able to get down on the floor and back up again so it'll be good for him to take part."
And Sheree Bell, who sat on the bike next to Charles', felt he took part to prove he could "keep up" with sons William and Prince Harry.
She said: "He's a good sport. His two boys take part in things like this when they're out and about so I guess he needs to keep up with them. It's a great facility and all the classes are popular with local people wanting to get fit so I think he's done really well for this area."
Charles helped save the centre from closure in 2007 and during yesterday's visit, he spoke to soccer, badminton and table tennis class participants before jumping into the spin class.
He also saw a climbing wall and exclaimed "That looks unbelievably scary to me."

Britain's Prince Charles was at the centre of a security alert when a "scantily-clad" woman was found on the grounds of his estate.
The 66-year-old royal and his wife Duchess Camilla were in residence at their Dumfries House abode in Ayrshire, Scotland
when Mary McDougall, 24, and 39-year-old Steven Stewart - who were carrying a crossbow and a lock-knife - were stopped by royal protection officers after they were seen "acting suspiciously" by an estate worker on Tuesday (28.04.15) afternoon.
A police insider told the Daily Express newspaper: "With Prince Charles and Camilla officially in residence, Dumfries House and its grounds were effectively locked-down. No one who was not meant to be there was allowed into the grounds or the house itself.
"Then someone spotted this pair on the property and saw they had a crossbow. That sent the flag up and they were very swiftly encountered, detained and searched.
"It would appear the man was taking photographs of the woman who was scantily dressed to say the very least. He is not a professional photographer and she is not a professional glamour model, so people can draw their own conclusions as to what sort of photographs they were taking.
"They were within the grounds of a stately home owned by the future king carrying a crossbow and a knife. It was a fairly large-scale response to what could have been a very sinister situation."
The pair were arrested and taken into custody before appearing in private on petition at Ayr Sheriff Court yesterday (29.04.15) afternoon.
McDougall made no plea or declaration after she was charged with breach of the peace and possession of an offensive weapon, while Stewart appeared on a single charge of breach of the peace.
Both have been remanded in custody until they return to court on May 5.

Britain's Prince Harry refused a private table at an Australian restaurant.
The 30-year-old royal visited The Stables Bar in Perth with eight
Special Air Service Regiment personnel and shunned VIP treatment by insisting on using the main front door and sitting in the middle of the eatery, rather than a special area he was offered.
Owner Tim McLernon said: "We asked him if he wanted to come in different entrances but he just wanted to be normal and come in the front."
And despite sitting so publicly, the prince was left alone to enjoy his meal of pork belly.
Tim added: "Everyone just left him alone. Let him be, which I thought was a nice touch."
The prince - who is on a month-long military secondment in Australia - happily split the bill with his new friends and added a "nice little tip" for restaurant staff.
Tim added to AAP: "They didn't drink a lot because they're training. And at the end of the night, they divvied up the bill, like every normal Australian does, and he put his share in, which I thought was a really nice touch.
"I believe he left a nice little tip."
